At least Porsche is consistent. It does look like they are introducing active aero on the base 991.

Yep, always looked wrong by design so they could fix it later...

Woawww, what a facelift ! heart

To me it looks like Porsche gives the new model a deliberate wrinkle so they can sell removing it as facelift.

Yeah, I think that is a common feeling among the people who reacted...
Such a shame, because (if it turns out that the facelift is going to be that way) it shows the complete and utter disregard that Porsche holds towards it's customers. "If they keep buying it, why would we change our attitude?"
Well, maybe because you actually want to do develop something you are proud of, rather than just maximize your profits with cheap marketing tricks... Ow how I long for the days before marketing was invented... I'm getting old.

Reading through all of the info on the 991.2 here, I have to admit, I'm more confused than ever.

Let aside the speculated date of market introduction, what I'm curious about is this:

    1. Will we, or will we not, have at least one non aspirated engine left in the 991.2 and will this then still be a six cylinder engine or not?
    2. Will we, or will we not, still get the manual gearbox in the 991.2 or are we all forced to convert to PDK? Please ... don't take the fantastic 7speed manual away from us very few die hard aficionados ... please!
    3. Will we still have the option of the SportDesign steering wheel, exactly the way it is today, w/o any buttons whatsoever?
    4. And lastly, will the 991.2 base Carrera (nonS) still come with 19" stock wheels? Yes seriously, I'm curious about this one and really'd like to know...

    Many thanks!

987er - i thought the reviews of the 7 speed manual were all pretty sad and generally waxed on why the Boxster/caymen new manuals were much better?

I don't think so, and personally I do love the 7speed manual tranny in the 991 a lot,  and I don't see how and where the 6speed in the 981 would be any better, crisper, smoother or whatnot. yes But anyways, I didn't wanna start yet another discussion on how good or bad the manual gearbox fares against other types or models.
I just wanted to see and find out if someone knows more about whether or not it'll stilll be around in the 991.2...

    Cheers,

It's because the 7sp is based on the PDK gearbox and has to use a mechanical converter to map the shift pattern into a double H pattern.  Lots of extra complexity in the mechanism, compared to the 6sp.

I've never tried the 7sp, so I can't comment beyond repeating complaints I've read...

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

1 & 2 most likely depend on regulations, rather than the marketing dept. For the U.S., 2015 should be yes, so order now. For 2016 and beyond, it becomes increasingly less likely as time goes on, due to Corporate Average Fuel Economy rules. 2016 is the new 1974 in my mind, if you will, where regulations really hit enthusiasts. I don't know how the EU CO2 rules tighten. 3&4 are largely marketing dept. questions.

    1. IF NA then only 6cyl.

    2. Only one version of engine will be offered with manual as well. PDK for rest.

    3. NO.

    4. Yes, only for conventional suspension. IF PASM then 20".

    Thanks @KresoF1!
Based on your clues, may I ask a bit more precisely? smiley

    ad 2.:
Will the one version with the manual tranny be the non aspirated one with the six cylinders (as mentioned in 1.)?

    ad 4.:
And would that very version then be the one with the conventional suspension and the 19" wheels, which if yes would probably make it the 991.2 entry version (aka Carrera nonS in today's terms)?

    Thanks & best greetings! devil

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

You will not be able to get NA engine, manual and 19" with conventional suspension on single version of 991.2 model.

My advice is to buy current 991 Carrera if you want these three things.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

    Ok, thank you.

Based on what you shared with us, we will probably have to brace for a 991.2 base model equipped with a four cylinder aspirated engine, manual transmission and 19" wheels.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

My guess is the Turbo-four will be the base model and the only one available with 19" and manual (6 speed).  It will basically be the Boxster S drivetrain.

My understanding of the rumors was that both Carrera and Carrera S of 991.2 would be turbocharged Flat-6 motors with Flat-4 being reserved for Boxster/Cayman (if not 718).

Too bad they let the SportDesign steering wheel go. In my eyes the best wheel ever. Perfect style and finish, no frills. In that respect, the new Macan/Spyder wheel can't hold a candle to the SportDesign wheel.

    surprise

you may be causing confusion for some readers...i think you mean " normally aspirated " , i.e.,  without forced induction like a turbocharger or  supercharger .

a " non- aspirated " motor  would be ...an electric one  !
