Re: Porsche Back in Le Mans with LMP1 2014

Porsche has a phenomenal top speed - 308 kph against toyota 279 and audi 272. For a second, last year Hamilton qualified 1st place with 308-310 top speed. But Porsche was in practice! That means that 919 has a straight dynamics of f1 car.

I wonder what we are going to see in Le Mans this year... 360-370?

Did anyone notice that Futch seems to be running Silverstone this year? Best of luck Futch, go get 'em!

0.452 seconds separating the 6 LMP1-H cars from Porsche, Audi, and Toyota!  Insane!

Yes, saw that as well. Good luck to him. There is even a model car of their 2013 Le Mans entry available:

Yes, that was my thought as well. Very impressive. If you take into consideration that all three cars are based on very different technical concepts this is quite impressive. A bit annoyed that the live stream is not available anymore, following Radio Le Mans right now. Obviously a lot of fans and the manufacturers complain about this broadcasting concept right now.

Have to live with the summary on Eurosport tonight. Smiley

Great stuff! P3 for the LMP as well as 1st and 2nd in the GT-Pro category. Very well done...

Both crashed out; one looked like it locked up the rears under braking, and the other got onto the white stripes and curbs when it was raining and lost it.

Re: Porsche Back in Le Mans with LMP1 2014

Didn't watch but I read an article saying that after the first one crash, Audi decided to keep running their dry tires hoping it would clear up, whereas Toyota changed to wet tires. Not sure if the second crash was related to the tired choice or not.

Like someone else said though, pretty cool to think 3 significantly different cars could all be within .5 seconds of each other.

Re: Porsche Back in Le Mans with LMP1 2014

I wonder where the 919s would have finished with the Audis in the race? However the fact that at least one Porsche endured its first race is positive.

I was very happy with the 911's 1-2. The 911 has also won Daytona and Sebring. Last year there was plenty of debate that the 911 platform is obsolete for GT racing.

919 was laps ahead of the second Audi before the crash...

Re: Porsche Back in Le Mans with LMP1 2014

I know, but the first Audi retired too early and the second one when there was almost half the race to be run.

Still very encouraging for the 919.

Re: Porsche Back in Le Mans with LMP1 2014

    Thanks guys,

A pretty bad weekend for us sadly. The ELMS race was actually ok, we had the pace but with two bronze drivers we were slower than the top cars and poor performance in the pit. Shame.

Then the WEC was even worse, we got a stop and go penalty for a silly mistake, that cost us overall two minutes, despite that we were catching up and then mid race, the rear differential broke, end of the race. My stint was not easy, same conditions than Le Mans last year, not dry, not wet. I was on slicks the whole stint but the fast curves of the track, Copse and Stowe were greasy.

Traffic is easier than ELMS, there's less cars and the P1 are so fast they don't bother you although the team orders must different with different teams. The 919s are somewhat cooler and wait til a straight to go for it, the Toyota are a  lot more aggressive, justs gunning past you in Beckets if you leave the slightest hole.

Performance wise, we were good in the wet but nowhere in the dry. We knew it, no surprises here, the 997 is an old  car now in the WEC and the 2012 RSR is notoriously difficult to setup properly. But still we're a good two seconds behind the opposition.

Better luck next time, bring on Spa! Thanks for the nice messages.

Re: Porsche Back in Le Mans with LMP1 2014

Porsche is crazy on straight, audi and toyota - in turns.

Collard is still very fast driver! Followed him during the race. Sometimes he was even faster than pro cars.

Futch, during elms you had a very good pace! But Crubile is much slower...

The 919s were actually running their Le Mans aero package this weekend, which is very promising considering they were relatively close on a track like Silverstone.

Re: Porsche Back in Le Mans with LMP1 2014

Correct Adam! They only have a lowdown force package for the car as they are concentrating on Le Mans.

Porsche were quickest in Sectors 1&3 but lost all their time in S2.

Spa should provide us with a better comparison of the cars, although we wont get a really good picture until Le Mans.

Toyota are very strong and have a excellent team. Good Drivers, good tire ware, fast car.

Is a 991 RSR-enrollment for Prospeed in the works, or are they not yet available to customer teams?

Very strange. They had plenty of time to develop both packages and I believe they have not shortage of budget.

    Thanks K.

Yes Manu still definitely has the speed for sure.

    Porker,

the 991 is available for privateers but to be honest this is only my third season in modern motorsport and first wec season so we decided to go for the much cheaper 997 package and learn the tracks first. We will see next year.

    Are you coming to spa?

Obviously, logical reasoning. I can just imagine the frustration not being able to compete solely due to material.

I'll be at Spa 24h and LM24h, no doubt!

919 on pole at Spa... Fantastic!

The race will be a challenge as the car is still in very early days, but to be on pole so quickly bodes well for the program.

Great to see Marc Lieb doing so well with the P1 car too...
