Finally our Cayman arrived. Actually, we didn't buy the one we ordered because after the latest increase in car taxes and euro currency (euro has increased about 15% against our currency in the last 3 months), the price has increased -from 143k euro to 150k euro (375.000 TL to 465.000 TL)
When we just decided to cancel the order, we saw another Cayman in the showroom in exactly the same exterior and interior colors with similar options. It is a November/December built car which means MY14 but because of the new registration regulation it will be registered as 2013 model. Therefore it had additional discount so that we bought it with a considerable discount (about 120k euro ~ 375.000 TL).
The Extra options this car has vs the ordered Cayman are: Heated seats, cruise control, bluetooth and powersteering plus.
What it is lacking is 19" wheels and most importantly PASM. However, the 30K euro price difference coulnd't justify the PASM suspension.
So to make the long story short, here are the showroom pictures of the car. We'll collect it later this week.

Here is an interior shot:
I very much like the seats; the side supports are really good and holds you well. The design of the new steering wheel w/paddles is very nice; much better than my ex 997.1 Carrera S extra thick (XPA) steering wheel. However, it is a pity that there is no control for the audio on the steering wheel. They can put 2 small buttons for that (1 for volume; the other one for the skip future) just behind the steering wheel.
I still don't like the quality of the plastic on the center console. I may have it wrapped with alcantara in near future. The visibility, general feel and look of the dash is very nice. I don't know why but I especially like to have 2 trunks in the car and like the rear cargo area. Don't ask me why because I don't know. Nevertheless, the cargo/loading area just behind the seats makes the interior very roomy.
So far, 2 things I really don't like about the car:
1) The ride is too harsh. Not as bad as my ex-997.1 -20mm Sport chassie BUT it is harsh. The shocks are not absorbing the inperfections of the road properly. They shook the interior of the car a lot. I may be spoiled by the superior suspension of the 458 which rides like it is not touching the road when compared with Cayman.
I'm sorry not getting PASM with the car but I wouldn't pay 30k euro just for the suspension (because of the price difference between the 2 cars) so I decided to put a quality coilover kit to car after discussing the matter with a few people. I'm thinking of buying Bilstein PSS10 and put it on the car for much better ride on comfort side.
2) The gearing of the car is ridiculously long. The power is too little from the 2.7 engine. 290 NM of torque has only arrived @4500 rpm and up until there, there is no one in the house This is not a turbo engined or torque-rich car but still Porsche made the car geared for theoretical 440+ km/h top speed. This is insane. The car does 114 km/h in 7th gear @2000 rpm. This is even more crazy than my old E36 and E46 M3s which had theoretical top speed of 330 km/h in 6th gear.
Now, I'm looking for shorter R/P gear set for the car. If my research is correct, the diff. ratio of the 2.7 PDK is 3.25. On the other hand 3.4 PDK has a diff ratio of 3.85 which is more realistic for this engine. So I'm looking to get 3.4 R/P gear set and will put it if it is not big of a hustle. Even in 6th gear, the car has theoretical top speed of over 310 km/h @7800 rpm.
Other than these 2 things, I really like the car. It is a proper Driver's car for daily use.

The Cayman passed the Track test
Next, I ordered Bilstein PSS10 coilover kit. Really liked the car. I wish we had the S model. I didn't think that I would love the car this much. If there will be a ECU tune -there is none yet-, I'm thinking of buying IPD plenum, 997 GT3 TB (which is 82 mm vs 74 mm stock) and might also buy Fabspeed headers
A new photo with my 458 which has just had nano treatment

Next, I ordered Bilstein PSS10 coilover kit.
Does this include new dampers? And if so, are they active?
It might be a good idea to upgrade to active shock absorbers, at the same time.
The kit is this:
For active shocks, the car should be equipped with PASM. You can also adjust the height of the car between 10-30 mm. I'll stay with 10mm lowering in order to have the same ride height with the PASM equipped cars.

sfo:
isn't the Cayman your father's car?
Is he OK with your tracking and modding it ...
I have the car on weekdays and my father have it on weekends
He finds the car too stiff and didn't like the ride so when I told him that I'll solve it with a new set of suspension, he said "go for it"
As for the ECU tune, I also have ECU tune on his daily drive, MY14 Mercedes E180 with a 1.6 turbo engien and he is very happy with the results.
If I put IPD plenum and GT3 TB, I don't need to tell him. I take care of all the cars in the family (which totals 6 cars)
As for tracking, I didn't ask but he knows I track my 458.

Kinda related - did you break in the car before using it on the track (out of interest)
Yes, it has 1.200 km on the clock before going to the track.
