    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Some news on engines, like I mentioned delivery of new engine will start next week BUT things will be slow as Porsche will pre-drive each engine and put about 1000km. So don't know how many engine tester they have and how long it will take maybe an extra day or two. For me looks like I will have my early May so too tight for Mugelo May 1-2, will see

This cannot be correct. If they pre-drive and put about 1000km on each engine, there is no way they can get through 785 let alone engines for the 2015 model this year. If true, my car which is sitting in San Diego PDI will not get its engine for months or possibly this year.laugh

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Very interesting.  I wonder if true?  It would make sense if the failures happened early in the hands of the owners, but if they happened at 3-5k miles, what's the point of pre-driving the motors?  How many engine jigs can Porsche have to do this?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I would expect that Porsche will run hot tests on the first batches of new engines to validate the engineering  changes and changes to the manufacturing process. On a parallel track they will be ramping up production of replacement engines and engines for GT3 order queue. I don't foresee this taking more than a few months.

One would think the engine has already received the necessary testing and passed. Thus the reason for commencing with the engine replacement program. To take a customers car and put 1000km on it seems odd.

The original comment said, "pre drive each engine," not, "pre drive each car," so maybe it's just being "driven" on the bench.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

If true, this will be done on a jig/engine dyno.  No way will Porsche drive 785 cars around for 1000km.  Don't be silly.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

correct pre drive on the bench for the one being replaced. remember the failure happened with car is less than 200km. I got this info yesterday from Porsche Switzerland. I had one of the first back in November and my is not schedule to be ready by end of this month. Anyhow when you take indemnity into account it is not a bad investment with a gross return of 43%. I had driven the car for 3700km before it got blocked so having an engine with 1000km does not bother me. Otherwise with new once and not delivered 2014, it could be annoying. I think Porsche is taking all precaution. My guess is that they won't do it for the 2015 model ie pre drive in the bench. I can tell you from my source, that the CEO Mueller has daily meeting on this topic. All owner will have a special code in Porsche system, can't remember which on but we will be flagged as highly priority and to take good care. Anyhow with my travels this month and Easter delaying by two weeks is fine for me it is a question of impatience. At the end nothing we can do to accelerate unless you ask your dealer to have a priority delivery. For fairness in Geneva we are about 20 with that issue and half are friends so delivery will be based on the original delivery date.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

What you say makes sense and doesn't seem far-fetched like a lot of other rumors.

If they really do an equivalent of 1000 km on benches, then the motors will come pretty much already broken in.  I consider that a bonus!!

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I just read on RL that Porsche can do 300km per hour on the bench so that would amount to little over three hours. More amazing, I read that Porsche test the replacement engine by running it at 9000rpm's for 24hours. That I find hard to believe.

Correction; the engine was run for 12 hours at full load. Obviously Porsche has found the solution. There should be no need for further testing other than the standard testing protocols.

Engine dynos don't run at "kph" I guess they mean that they will set the dyno at the loading of 6th/7th gear at 300kph and hold it there, video below is quite illustrative

Probably would survive, but it would certainly be very worn.  Race motors that drive up there are only good for 30-40 hours or so.

Whilst not an expert on the subject, I would have thought though that a dyno test at mixed engine loads and speeds and including a number of starts from cold might be a more interesting test of conrod bolt screw connections than just a high constant speed run, so I wouldn't rely too much on internet rumours like this one.

PS:  I took Nick's late correction of his post to mean that a development engine had been run on a dyno for 12 hours to test the effectiveness of the fix, and not as a suggestion that all customer engines would be run extensively on a dyno.

    RC:

Also, as an interesting side story (not sure if this is true but this is what I've been told): Whatever loaner the dealerships or Porsche gave customers (in many cases, they received 991 Turbo or Turbo S loaners),

Germany is different that RoW I guess. I know of two cases here in Spain regarding loaners for GT3 owners. In one case the dealership gave him a Boxster, and the other he has had the GT3 at the delership for a month and a half now and is still waiting for a loaner, they say they don't have one except for a 10 yar old beat up Cayenne.

Really classy from Porsche IMO, or at least from the dealerships, though its Porsche's responsability to be making sure those GT3 customers are being treated well by their local dealerships after those customers having bought a brand new car that they cannot drive for fear ofit  going up in flames.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

News from Switzerland. We will receive this week a letter from Porsche saying that all test of new engine are finished. Production of engine to be made after Easter. At the same time either in the letter or thru the dealer we will have the individual delivery date for the new engine, confirmation of the daily indemnity plus that is the news 4 new tires. Just got a what's app from the dealer on this. Greeting from Chengdu - China.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

New tires!  Awesome!  Hope they leave existing ones on if they are still good.  Tires cost us consumers huge but are dirt cheap for the car companies so it is a cheap thing for them to give us but represents huge value to us.  Very smart plus something a GT3 owner can never have enough of is new tires.

According to the latest communication from Porsche they will start production of the GT3 engines after Easter. Does anyone close to the factory have any idea as to how many GT3 engines they can produce in a day?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

There is a thread over at Rennlist that calls for a global owners campaign to present to PAG. Suggest those who are affected read it. A secure forum has been set up to discuss strategy and ensure all affected parties across boarders are respresented fairly with regards to compensation and clear communications. There are now 10 million USD of owners subscribed to this closed forum and I encourage any of you affected no matter where you live to read the thread then PM me the details of your transaction (the RL thread lists the information required) if you would like to be part of this Owners Action Group (note this is not a legal challenge to PAG)......

    hahaha...

in Germany you can choose where to pick up your car.

You can pick it up at your local dealer or in Zuffenhausen or Leipzig. Zuffenhausen and Leipzig is with a factory tour.

I already did it two times in Zuffenhausen. Now I want to try Leipzig.
