Try to get a drive in the RT 35 S. It is a 650 HP RUF based on the 991 Turbo offered in RWD or AWD.
It looked very good when I saw it in Geneva, very coherent design not a tuner package. I suppose it shows what Porsche could/should be doing with their car.
I spent some time at the RUF display and the people were very enthusiastic about what they do.

As much as I hate to spoil the enthusiasm but RUF doesn't give high power models to everybody who wants to take them for a spin. They are very selective and it is highly understandable. Usually, they also judge the people who come by the car they come with or if they know them, by the car they own. This has nothing to do with being elitist or whatever, this is for safety reasons (and of course they don't want to get their high performance high value cars crashed). 
Just as a hint before people get too enthusiastic about a test ride.

Good luck, guys. I know Alois Ruf personally and he still provided a chaperone when I took his Rt12 for a spin. This guy was a total buzzkill, he started to tremble every time I fully accelerated.

So, I just got back from RUF. A very pleasant afternoon, I must say!
[apologies at this point: I didn't take any pics. Given the 1:1 attention I received the whole time, it would have seemed a bit rude of me to run around taking snaps..]
I turned up in my lowly Boxster, but this didn't seem to put the sales guys off much. In fact they both seemed pretty keen on mid-engined cars and quite curious about the various mods and spec on mine. It was immediately clear that they're all real enthusiasts with a passion for these cars. A couple of more knowledgeable guys you couldn't want to meet.
I was then given a guided tour of the whole factory, service, and restoration areas. Turns out it's quite a large place, and includes a branded Porsche service centre (i.e. 'official Porsche' as opposed to RUF). I had a look around the strip areas, body & paint shop, restoration area (quite a few air-cooled cars undergoing both restoration and rebuild/modifications to RUF specs), engine dyno rooms and workshop. Lots of nice cars around the place, including a couple of CTR3s and the current 911 variants. All nicely organised as you would expect.
I then went out for a drive in the 3800S. This is essentially a 981 Boxster S with a 420hp 3.8, sports exhaust, bodykit, suspension, and whatever else your heart desires. The car was set up a little softer and less twitchy than the go-kart setup on mine, and showed some of the 981 traits of a little extra stability due to longer wheelbase and slightly wider track (iirc). Ride quality on the PSS10 suspension was excellent - very compliant. The engine & exhaust was the star of the show, though: Sounds much deeper than the 3.4, and the (switchable) exhaust is louder and deeper than PSE, with plenty of pops and bangs on changes and off the throttle. The extra torque is very evident - acceleration doesn't feel all that different from mine, but when you check the speedo you tend to be doing more than you think! The smoothness of PDK is probably also a factor here.
The pricing includes a zero-option Boxster S, as the basis car comes complete from Porsche and is then stripped/rebuilt. So you can spec the base car in the P configurator for the P options you want, and add the RUF options from there.
Need to do some sums now.. i'm very tempted

Did you ask how the "import" to Switzerland would work? It is CH approved thanks to EU regulation and you get an X in the vehicle documents?

He reckoned they guy at Elite Sirnach lends a hand sorting out the registration docs. I think he said it gets treated as a Swiss car. For such a low-volume manufacturer, I doubt a Typschein X would make the slightest bit of difference either way, though.

It would simply be interesting to understand how our friends at Stva handles this. Given the Typschein seem very strict and any deviation (power, suspension, wheel dimensions, etc) is non-approved. If I were to add the X51 power kit to my 991 then the car needs new papers. So the 3800S could not have the same Typeschein as a 981 Boxster S and hence I assume X.

He said the type-approval etc is based on the 3800S spec and so all above board and legal. It wouldn't have the same Typschein as a normal Boxster - it sounded like it would have a dedicated one for a Ruf 3800S. The nice side of this is it seems that whatever you spec it with becomes the original vehicle spec.. Bear in mind it has a Ruf chassis number and is not a 'Porsche' at all.

I do not want to spoil the fun here...a colleague of mine purchased a used 997 with a RUF kompressor kit installed by the first owner of the car...he told me he paid only a fraction of extra money in comparison to what the original owner paid for it (so for him it was surely a no-brainer...) ...so I assume a lot of money would be lost when you want to sell the car again ? I do not know what the "market" pays for a used RUF car right now in contrast to a RUF-moded P-car, but though I am always been tempted to go your route, it looks like a very tricky decision to make from a financial point of view ?

The supercharged 997 versions weren't too popular but I agree, getting a RUF may be a great thing but from a financial point of view (resale value), the cars aren't exactly doing great in Germany. Depends on the market at the time you want to sell and of course how special that car is. I drove the supercharged 997, they had one there for quite some while for testing and while I liked the setup, I always wondered about real life performance. I money is of no concern, the RUF products are great but if you're on a budget, I would prefer the Porsche OEM models.

A friend of mine who is a collector bought one (CTR 1) two years ago and paid around 125,000 Eur + VAT. I think today is worth in the 200 K Eur range. (Lately special Porsches have gone through the roof and this is one of them).
