Almost forgot.
My Mclaren sales told me McLaren has planned to open an extra 20 dealerships in China. All 20 has already paid their franchise fee but most of them don't even have a location planned yet. This is in addition to the existing 4.
Those existing 4 dealerships sold 37 P1s. Out of about 120 allocated to Asia. North American also sold 120 cars. Most of those 37 are sold to people who were refused a LaFerrari, so they bough the next most expensive car. Same thing happened to 1 of the 2 local P1, he didn't get a LaFerrari allocation and that pissed him off and he went for the P1. As a matter of fact our local Ferrari dealership didn't get a single allocation from the 499.
Seems like McLaren has identified China as the place for them to expand and focus or milk. All of North America combined only has 15 dealerships, 13 in USA and 2 in Canada. why would China needs 24? Unless of course McLaren is only interested in pocketing the franchise fee to boost their bottom line.

The dealer in China told me today that the 12C hasn't been selling well and has a lot of inventory. What that means, I'm not really sure. The showroom never has more than 2 cars in it and they seem to change pretty often, so not sure where that extra inventory is.

Saw my first P1 today. Was a brief look as I was driving past the dealership near me. Was a white one. Looked very impressive in white and in person. Will try to take some pics next week.

They incorrectly identify the steering as electric assist - it's actually hydraulic (with the pump being run by an electric motor - just like a 997 Cup or RSR).

That's crazy not to include La Ferrari (without waiting for the numbers) - since when did a mid-engined V12 Ferrari that revs to 9,200 rpm not have investment potential - especially one as brilliant as the LF?

Diehard McLaren fanboys keep pointing to the price increase of the F1 as their proof. But that was and still is the one off. P1's legacy is still waiting to be written. But all of them conveniently forget that F1 didn't meet it's production target, and it took a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time for it to appreciate and the appreciation only skyrocketed in the last couple years after McLaren announced the P1 and people realized the P1 is NOT a replacement for the real thing, i.e. the F1. The P1 is just a souped up 12C. For the record, McLaren is 2 for 2, in not meeting their production target, the P1 was cut 25% to 375 from 500. Counting the 100 or so names on the current wait list, they still didn't reach their original goal of selling 500.
Ferrari has the proven track record, no sane person will bet against it.

I think the verdict is still out on appreciation. Not enough of any of these cars delivered an available to determine value at this point.
It's important to realize that it's not that easy to sell new $1.5-2M cars, regardless of what brand it is. Ferrari obviously has the best chance of appreciating, but the question quickly becomes just how much is possible.
I think the LF was priced based on the fact that the Enzo could fetch $1.5-2M in decent condition. Why sell it for less than people are willing to pay for the previous, much inferior car? So where are they going to price the F80? $2.5M? $3M?
Competitors will catch up and for less. Performance is getting cheaper and cheaper, composite material is getting cheaper and cheaper. Future halo car demand and prices will limit modern halo appreciation IMO.

Most can agreed that McLaren and Ferrari has priced in the initial jump in price for their cars on the MSRP.
Both the P1 and the LaFerrari will make a decent profit even selling at 6-700k. Or maybe even at 500k. Unlike the tech heavy 918, neither has much cutting edge tech baked in.

I was referring to the P1 Horacio Pagani was driving.
Looks like the P1 is in racing setting with its wings fully extended and the ride height at its lowest. McLaren says that setting is illegal on public roads and from the photo it looks like he is driving on the public street.

The company was started by engineers from the original McLaren F1 car program, so these guys are the rightful heir to the F1 legacy.
The original version packs 575hp and can do 3g+ on lateral g and do 0-100mph in <5 seconds. The new evo version packs like 700hp.
This thing is going to run rings around the P1.

Except it has a downforce problem on slow corners so you could go off track at 40mph but be safe at high speeds.
