Because first there are not the same cars, second they have not the same function --- ie do you get an overboost from the sport chrono package?
Sports chrono plus does not allowed you to adjust wipers, door locking...but rather tune accelerator and suspension sportier!
Its an another unit that allow door locking, AC, memory seats(if electrics)...
I suggest to read again the brochure to understand the functions.
I don't feel like you that porsche is milking the customers, because they are building sports car and you don't need all these options to enjoy the car unless you want to pay the extra cash -- Sport package is worth it for me because it makes the car sportier --- worth the extra cash!

I assume if you tried it on a loaner, it was not on a Turbo. There it will provide 10% more power and torque below 4k revs, whereas it only sharpens throttle response without adding power on the other cars...
