IMO wood belongs on luxury cars such as Mercedes, some BMW's, Audis, Volvos, Jaguars, Bentleys, etc.
Porsche and wood trim is pointless, it's a sports car...sports cars don't use wood trim. I think aluminum is fine, but carbon fiber works best (only on black interiors however). See my 987S in carbon...I am planning on added the CF illuminated door sills soon...I currently have the non-illuminating CF door sills...

I love the Carbon Fiber steering wheel and gear shift. Not sure if I would go all out on the Carbon Fiber though. Kinda pricey....

I dunno, I kinda like CF because at least it is the real thing. It is a cutting edge contemporary hightech material which has revolutionized the performance car industry.
The "aluminum" is really just painted plastic. The wood is from a bygone era.

I think CF is fine as a base dashboard trim, on the handbrake, the steering wheel, and maybe the doors....to have it cover the whole center console, vents, etc. I think that's a little too much, a little too busy.
But to each his own. If I stepped into your car MMD and saw lots of CF I wouldn't complain in the least. As long as it's not aluminum.

LOL. Funny isn't it? I might say here I "hate" X in a 997 but if my buddy gets X and we go for a drive I'd be happy for him and start to like it. I might have a tough time with wings though, so I would need a buddy with a turbo to start liking wings.

Whichever finish you choose (aluminium look, wood, carbon fibre or exterior paint colour finish), it's just decoration. None of it actually performs any objectively useful function (like making the car lighter therefore faster etc). They simply cosmetically beautify your car in your subjective opinion. So saying that carbon fibre is better is like saying black is nicer than silver. It's just a taste thing.
I agree about aluminium look finish. If you have large section in alu-look, it can look a bit plasticky and cheap. But if it's done selectively on small parts only, it can look nice.
Also, it depends on which interior colour you pick. I chose cocoa. CF looks dreadful with cocoa. Alu-look looks much better with cocoa IMHO.
I mainly added lots of cocoa leather to my interior. I kept the bits that come in alu-look but added only CCW (B pillar belt outlet trim in alu-look). It's a v small part that won't look plasticky and provides a nice colour contrast and 'accent' to the remaining cocoa elsewhere. But to each his own!
