Those wheels have got to go. Yuck!

Consider yourself lucky that you don't need winter tires. These are the only factory approved CL winter wheels available right now and yes, they are the same as on the Turbo S.

How come the CL rims are further inside the wheel well on the GT3, although the car´s chassis is narrower than the Turbo´s? That looks as if the Turbo does not share the same suspension components with the other models anymore. Smiley

Offset totally different on 991 Turbo. 991 GT3 use unique wheel offset for both front and rear wheels.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Turbo wheels are being used to run narrower snow tires.

Turbo suspension different and uses more offset hence the wheels sitting inboard further.

Non issue unless you run your GT3 in the winter in a northern climate. . .

The Winter CL wheels for the Turbo/TurboS are also narrower (at least according to Porsche): 8.5x20F & 11x20R winter vs. 9x20F & 11.5x20R standard, although only the rear tire is narrower (295/30 winter vs. 305/30 standard) while the front is 245/35 on both.

Somehow I don't like the color Racing Yellow. Speed Yellow of the previous generations looked so much better IMHO.

Racing Yellow is the sort of colour you find on Renault Clios and Meganes

I went to see my GT3 at the dealership last weekend - while I was speechless admiring how fantastic it looked, the first thing that my wife said was that the (yellow) seat belts don't match the yellow PCCB brake callipers...

    :(

Would anybody know what it concerns?

The initial batch was recalled for a thermostat issue, the engine 'might' overheat and get damaged especially when new with the tight tolerance. Maybe not all the cars got the replacement?

the GT3 looks great in any color that i have seen. it is the master piece of 911 design so far. even the somewhat vulgar wing fits the car and makes it look just right. congratulations!!!

You mean "stop delivery"? There are 62 cars affected but not sure if it is related to the thermostat issue. .

Some are claiming it is related to replacing an exhaust and sump bolt.

Here is what is reputed to be the official announcement.

Effective immediately and until further notice, delivery of any new 2014 911 GT3 units must be suspended. This Stop Sale action is being taken in order to investigate a quality issue that potentially exists with the engine of the subject vehicles. While additional details are not readily available, please know this matter is of the highest priority in the Porsche organization.

Not a dealer recall, but a pre-delivery recall. Remember the delay on initial shipments at port? Cars got the repair there.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

one cannot help but wonder if porsche did not go beyond what they can do (for the relative bargain price of the GT3) in terms of quality control with the GT3 engine revving up to 9K RPM. only ferrari has high revving engines like this  (counting reasonable competitors) and they charge a big premium for their cars.

well, yes and no. there was already one serious delay. btw, one GT3 already burned down in switzerland for unknown reasons recently (engine related, it seems).

btw, i am not arguing agains the GT3 (if you read my posts i really like the car), so no need to defend it. just saying that  the engine is borderline, maybe a higher price would have allowed better quality control.

I don't think that quality control is an issue. I rather think that suppliers are an issue and Porsche really needs to do something about that.

Do we know if the car in Switzerland was a 991GT3?

Christian, there is no difference between a supplier and Porsche. For the part they are providing it is a Porsche part.

absolutely true. the reason for the burnt down F458s was a glue, which could not stand the high temps. also a supplier issue but for the customer it was a ferrari problem.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Today I read that Porsche will meet its goal of producing 200,000 cars per year in 2015 two years earlier than they predicted (2017).

More production often can mean less quality especially if the manufacturer culture has been to produce relatively small number of cars.

I am sure Porsche will correct the issue but it could take awhile. My car is on a boat in the Atlantic. I guess the repairs will be made in PDI since the car does not get to San Diego until early March.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

It is a supplier problem. Porsche gives them the specs, they also test the supplied parts if they comply to specs but from time to time, suppliers screw up. I agree, this should be Porsche's problem and customers couldn't care less who is to really blame but in the end, I think that Porsche needs to take care of their suppliers, even at the cost of switching them and even at the consequence that parts cost a bit more to make sure quality is perfect. This could mean that Porsche has to deal with lower profit margins but in my opinion, they absolutely need to make sure quality is OK because once the reputation is ruined... angry Porsche is a premium manufacturer and even if their profit margins are legendary in the car business, they cannot keep them up sacrificing quality. No way.

The Honda VTEC engines , like on the S2000, did also rev to 9000 and price was cheap  . It has nothing to do with a premium .

While I agree, the bottom line is that however you make it, hp cost money.

I doubt very much Porsche 'cheaped out' with the GT3 motor.  One bad circlip, O-ring, or casting/machining residue from a vendor's part can have catastrophic repercussions depending on where the part is employed.
