Porsche 991 Targa 4S - Color to Sample examples (pic heavy!)

With the recent introduction of the Targa, I think Porsche has launched an ideal car to get in Color to Sample in my humble opinion.
Since I was getting bored and had some spare time, I decided to make some renders in various Color to Sample colors that are currently available. Just for the fun of it... Smiley

I thought maybe I should share them here, so that people that like to order a Targa get an idea of how the car looks in various retro- and modern colors.
(colors are not 100% accurate, but I tried to get them as close to real;ity as possible)

First some Retro non-metallic colors:

Finally an option that is not available yet, but should really be considered by the people at PAG, the option to get the Targa bar in various colors, because the Aluminium doesn't suit light silver and grey colors well.

Cool.. how do you get the PTS to render? If I select it on the configurator, it just gives me 1 orangey colour. Can you get a picker with all the different PTS colours somehow?

If you select the individual color for the GT3 in the Swiss configurator (in 2D mode) it looks like Riviera Blue indecision If you switch to 3D it looks like Oslo Blue angry

My guess is Suzy did all those Targas with the color replace function in Photoshop, but that is just a guess. I have never seen true PTS colours in the configurator.

That's probably it then. I just mentioned it as you'd done a few unusual ones as well. Thought maybe i'd missed it somewhere. Seems they just have 2 different example PTS colours for each model cheeky

Yes, that's the way I did it indeed Smiley

Yellow base for the non-metallic colors and saphire blue, limegold or dark blue metallic for the metallic colors. I'm trying to learn to use Photoshop a bit for business use, so this is a nice exercise. Like I said... i was kinda bored this afternoon Smiley

Just been showing off my expert level Photoshop skills Smiley

A PTS color chooser would be a great addition to the configurator and it should not be so hard to implement. Imagine all the time one could waste... uhm, enjoy trying out all the combinations.

If one clicks the small blue info icon it says 6 months delivery time for PTS. Sigh. How inflexible are they in the production line?

LOL! As flexible as our beautiful granite Swiss mountains Smiley

They have a trillion dollar paint factory, that can do only a limited amount of colors... No matte, no satin and if you want a color that's not on their list, they first have to ask the paint robots if they maybe like to do a different color... Answer comes 4 months later..... Smiley

I requested a feability check for Blutorange/Tangerine (018) back in June 13 and it was turned down last month. Evidently the color, even an old Porsche color, must be tested on all the potential painted surfaces for several months determining fade and wear durability.

Ah so it was you that requested that color :) it saw it on the PTS list i have with question marks for feasibillity behind it. It's a beautiful color! Too bad it isn't feasible.

And yes, I know it's not that easy to have all the colors available. When I was there in Stuttgart, they also told me that the feasibillity check has to be done, even on old existing porsche colors, because the paint is very different compared to the "old days" when they didn't use water-based colors. Or at least, it was something like that (Don't remember everything exactly as they told me Smiley ).

OTOH, other brands (even inside VAG) don't make such a big point of colors on request and I can't say that the quality of Porsche's paint is so much better than for example Audi, let alone Bentley! IMO, PAG should be a little more flexible...

Great work, agree that the new targa suits many of these. I always had a fondness for Mexico blue...

On your idea for the alternate colours for the targa hoop, I would note as well that Audi had, if I recall, three choices for the "blade" on even the original R8.

Yes the new paints are water based rather than enamel. Still hard to understand why pastel orange (017) and gulf orange (019) are possible but blutorange/tangerine (018) isn't. Unless of course somebody at Porsche took a look at the color and decided it would be suitable, and restricted to, a future special edition model!!! You're right about Audi. My wife got her '11 A3 painted Imola Yellow for $2500 USD and only a three month wait. By the way don't forget lichtgrun, which is available for PTS. Loved it on the 914 in '73 (I was 16). I gave it some thought for my C4S prior to requesting the feasibility check for blutorange, but didn't have the courage! Since we're on this subject, I'd like to take a moment to complement Ms. Melissa Witek w/ PCNA Exclusive. She submitted the feasibility check for 018. Very helpful, enthusiastic, and knowledgable.

I heard a lot of good things about Melissa Witek and also Sascha Glaeser. They're doing a good job in the U.S. Unfortunately I also hear often that some salespeople in the U.S. have no clue what they're doing, when it comes to Exclusive options. Some aren't even aware of some options that are available.

That's why forums like this, but also Rennlist and 6speed can be very helpfull to future owners, since lots of people share their own experiences on these forums. (especially a guy named Eduardo has a very well documented thread on Rennlist about ordering a custom built Porsche).

Thanks, Suzy. Smiley You are right, the Targa is a perfect candidate for PTS, so is the GT3 in my opinion.

Porsche should really shorten the order time for PTS, they could charge an extra 500 or even up to 900 bucks (EUR, USD) express charge. Smiley

Recollecting that on the program awhile back that toured the Ferrari factory they had & Porsche must also the capability of painting every car down the assembly line a different color as measured amounts of the colors were in some type of cartridge that was easily incorporated into the painting process. Sounds good, the ridiculously long lead time required by Porsche must discourage many customers who would gladly pay whatever for a reasonable delivery date. Not everyone wants black , white , or 8 shades of silver or grey.

Dave: Sorry you couldn't get Blutorange/Tangerine approved. At least I was glad to help you get from Sven Theis the location of the color chips in Zuffenhausen to facilitate your request. It was worth a try!

Don't get scared of 'Lichtgrün'. In my opinion, it's one of the great colors possible today via PTS at Porsche.
