Only when they "leak" themselves, like with the 918. A very open development and engineering process. But probably does not work for all car models.

My brother-in-law is on the market for a Carrera S (he drove the 4S and did not like it), but he wanted the car to be special like my GT3 but without the price tag... I recommended the Carrera GTS as an alternative... What do you guys think? When will it come out approximately?

The price tag will not be that much cheaper ( with a few must have options )  . But it is, apart from the GT3, the only NA model that will be a little bit special . Why not go for a used 997 GTS if he wants a good deal ?

LED frontlights are already available as an option and otherwise, this isn't exactly how a GTS would look in my opinion.

I get a feeling that we won't see a GTS before the Carrera facelift.

That front could be the face lift …. and it looks way better then the ugly  front light/blinkers they have put on the 991.1

Please do not repeat on the 991.2 facelift the saggy /droopy eyelid rear lights that appeared on the 997.2 .

Spy shots show larger more squared off rear units taped down to appear sleek ,slim and triangular like current car - not hopeful so far ..uggh

Shoulda just kept the shape and made them " 3-D " like on the Macan /918/Corvette C7

I think the 991.2 will have Active Aero like the 918 Spyder, just look at this pics:

    Front air intakes open

... now the air intakes are closed!! no

Not so sure about it. It looks more like covering the air inlets because of the cold (maybe some sort of testing with more and less cold air, I don't have a clue). Active aerodynamics make sense but not necessarily on the 991 Carrera. The front lip also seems to be fixed and if Porsche introduces PAA in the Carrera, it would certainly be a system similar to the 991 Turbo S system. To make it short: I don't think this is an active aerodynamics system but I may be wrong.

Or active shutters for more efficiency and to save fuel (less drag). I don't know if the Carrera models meet EU6 requirements already. The Turbo does...

I think it was Ford that introduced that a couple of years ago on the Focus?? Not 100% sure about that...

    Just guessing....

Is that a picture of the same car?  The wheels change between the pictures, leading me to believe that it may be two different cars, possibly with different power plants.  Porsche e-tron?

I guess they will habe to seriously step up performance for the Carrera S. At the pricepoint it is being sold here in Switzerland it schould at least have 450 hp!

Just think about the recent announcements out of the VAG group. The 2.0 liter engine og Golf R and Audi S3 will be available with 370 HP (!!!) meaning  that the RS version might touch 420 HP. We Are talking 996TT power territory here!!

So 400 HP will not cut it anymore in my opinion. Perhaps we will see a bifurcation like a smaller turbo base version and an aspirated on the top. Or maybe both go down the downsizing and turbo path. But something has to happen....

the 1987 Porsche 928 had active aero vent in front grill / intake  that closed at high speed to reduce drag

You are of course right, but to me, the hp figure isn't the most important. 400 or 450 hp... Both are nice, but the engine lacks torque. Especially low-end torque. More torque would make the car "feel" a lot quicker.  Downsized turbocharged engine should solve that problem. But it would bring a different problem. Lack of respons, revs and sound. Smiley

I'm very curious what they are gonna do with the engines....
