I do the service annually at the beginning of January (actually oil and the various filters and brake pads if needed plus diagnosis and any updates) at the time of the warranty and I ask not be charged anything for the 111 inspection, as there is not much extra work really. The OPC always agree.
My local OPC offers a free "health check" so I take advantage of that for the annual check. Because my car does less than 10k miles annually the services fall due on time rather than mileage so I get the warranty carried out at the same time as the service. I don't pay the rip - off 111 point check either. I always shop around for the best servicing deal, despite fixed menu pricing I found a difference of over £400 between the most expensive and cheapest quote for the 4 year "major" service.
