absent:
Sadly, I have to let you guys and gals here know what happened to me a week ago on Sunday afternoon.
While on my way from the office (some late work I had to get done) going home, enjoying the car and marveling about how excellent the car behaved in heavy falling snow, was hit by an old pick-up truck.
The front left side is heavily damaged, had multiple airbag deployments, since he pushed the car against the concrete curbs and a light pole, there is damage everywhere and significant damage to suspension.
All 4 wheels are destroyed.
I did not sustain any injuries to speak off ,just lots of airbag rash and badly bruised shins from the knee bag that exploded right into them.
Worst thing is,although the guy got a reckless driving ticket, his insurance is the absolute minimum required in Illinois,$25K.
Since I had "underinsured driver" coverage my insurance is handling it.
Now waiting for their decision if the car is declared "total loss" or if they decide to rebuild it.
Either way, I am not going to keep it, car is "broken and raped" for me,total loss would be best otherwise I will sell the wreck as is to try to salvage as much as possible from the purchase price.
Car had only 500 miles.........
Oh boy, I feel so sorry for you, you cannot even imagine. I am glad to hear that you got out of this horrible incident without any serious injuries but of course this is no consolation for the completely destroyed car.
I hope the insurance agrees to give you a new one, 500 miles and such a damage...I wouldn't accept a repair ever and if they insist, I wouldn't keep that car.
Keep us updated but again, I am glad you are OK and this is what counts most, right?
Speaking of snow: I was in Austria this weekend and after it started snowing and the streets were covered in snow, I took the car out for a spin to see how it handles in serious snow. After only a few minutes, a car on the opposite lane came sliding towards me (he was breaking too hard but not hard enough for the ABS to kick in and apparently lost control) and he almost hit me, I was able to "avoid" him because he slid pretty slow towards me and I was able to accelerate and had some free space on the right. After that, I returned to the hotel, I had no fun anymore in driving in snow.
Again...so sorry about what happened.
