If you don't want (or need) a Macan in 2014, it may be a good idea to wait a year or two and then, the lease offers (and rebates) will be much better (higher).

My thoughts entirely but I want a Lotus rather than a Boxster.  Still your car does look fantastic - congrtatulationsSmiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: Porsche Macan

    RC:

I decided not to exchange my Cayenne GTS with a Macan Turbo next year, when the Macan shows up at dealers.

The reason is pretty simple: Only a few Macan Turbo will make it to dealers next year and since demand is high, the lease offers are crappy (to say at least). To give you an example comparison: I could lease a brand-new 991 Carrera Cab (value around 128k EUR) for less money than a Macan Turbo (value around 98k EUR). Just not worth it.

If you don't want (or need) a Macan in 2014, it may be a good idea to wait a year or two and then, the lease offers (and rebates) will be much better (higher). Many dealers in Germany give only 3% on a Macan Turbo, over 10% (I won't say a precise figure) on a 991. Just an example.

love the boxster S, but how do you know the lease rates and residuals and money factors so far in advance when the car is not out yet? the US dealers would not discuss any lease rates until the car is actually on US soil and that applies to all porsches.

RC, I like your creativity--and your Porsche indulgence!  Hate to plant another seed, but why not a 991S Cab instead of the Boxster?  I think you (your wife?) might like the overall package better.  Don't shoot the messenger, now...

Actually, I would have loved a 991 CS Cab but dealer takes in the Cayenne GTS and exchanges it with the Boxster S at no additional cost (lease rate stays the same and instead of another 2 years Cayenne, I drive another 3 years Boxster S). If I would take the 991 CS Cab, it would cost aprox. 650 EUR per month(!) more. Car has a value of 136k EUR, Boxster S has a value of 88k EUR. Both cars are slightly used, aprox. 3-4 months old, not new (otherwise this deal couldn't work). So the 991 CS Cab would not only cost me 650 EUR per month more but I would also have issues driving to work with it (same old story). Cayenne and Boxster are OK, a 911 isn't. Smiley Apparently it is easier for the dealer to sell a Cayenne GTS in winter time than a Boxster S or 991 Cab, so he is open to various deals. Smiley

Smiley It is faster than my current Cayenne GTS.

Before I had the 991 Turbo S, you would have been right but now that I have a choice (I drive the 991 Turbo S as much as possible, you can't even imagine how much I love this car, even in winter time), the Boxster S is an interesting option and the Cayenne GTS isn't needed anymore. For example: I am going snowboarding with the kids tomorrow and I am driving with them in the Turbo S. My wife drives earlier with a friend and she takes the equipment with her. Perfect combo. Smiley

For longer distances, we will use the X3 35d but we really don't drive any long(er) distances anymore with the car, so this isn't important anymore. Things may look different in two or three years when the kids are taller. Smiley

Me and my wife wanted the F-Type or a Boxster S anyway and we both would have preferred the Jaguar (it looks and sounds great) but keeping the Cayenne GTS isn't really making sense anymore, we realized that this year, so one SUV is enough. When my wife has the kids, she uses the SUV and when she doesn't, the Boxster. The biggest advantage of this Boxster S and the Boxster in general: It is not a flashy car and "acceptable" for driving to work in it. Smiley

Porsche leasing has everything in the dealer system over here already and like I said before, way too expensive for now. Be prepared for the worst. Smiley It will be better after a year or so, maybe earlier. Demand seems to be high and this is what happens when demand is very high, lease offers are not that good. Smiley

Isn't that a polite way of stating Porsche is using component sets from VW?

Rather the opposite, isn´t it? There are no other Volkswagen Group production plants in Leipzig.

Try here for the VW-challenged on the MLB component set architecture and its role in the Porsche Macan:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group_MLB_platform

Since Volkswagen owns Porsche, the Leipzig facility and the Capex for the Macan final assembly line was approved and allocated by VW.  Also, VW fabricates the body shells for the Panamera and Cayenne too.

Not sure I can follow your reasoning. If the first statement, that the Macan is manufactured entirely in Leipzig, then it does not interfere with the second statement that it is based on the MLB-platform.

    yes

Porsche SA actually owns a majority in Volkswagen stock, JFYI. Smiley Porsche AG has been integrated into VW. So basically Porsche is part of Volkswagen but Porsche SA owns Volkswagen. Smiley

Porsche SE, controlled by the Porsche and Piech families, holds over fifty percent of Volkswagen's common stock; however, Porsche AG, the automaker and the point of discussion here, was subsumed by Volkswagen.  Therefore, Volkswagen management, with some oversight by Piech, among others, make the major decisions for Porsche, the automaker.  The Porsche and Piech families received additional compensation from Volkswagen for other holdings, i.e., sales and distribution networks, in addition to the sale of the automaking component.
