It was "only" $440k. the 918 is twice the price hence the expected depreciation...

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Random question: Does the bonnet open at all?

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Bonnet opens to a cubicle a tiny bit bigger than what's on a 911. Has enough room for the 2 roof panels plus maybe a couple g-strings

Not quite. There is enough room for a decent sized duffle bag even with the roof panels.

    Doubt you'll see a 918 at 40% off in 4 years.

Smiley And yes, I've seen the picture of that opened.

I guess I should have specified better, but does the "rear" bonnet open, i.e, the engine lid? There seems to be panel gaps that would show where the hood opens up, but thus far, I have never seen any picture of it opened, dating back to the concept car.

Would be a bit of a shame if it doesn't open considering that would be a great highlight seeing the chassis, suspension, exhaust system, and electrical systems all in addition to the low mounted engine.

Pretty much the whole rear mesh is bolted in place, not user open-able.

There is a section about the size of A4 sheet at the rear in the centre section that opens, for the oil filler cap. The gold-ish colour section in the pic behind the cat cover in front of the rear wing

    That's a bit of a shame. :-(

I always thought it was Porsche trying to keep their tech a secret from other car makers while they were developing the car, so they never opened it up at showings. I guess it doesn't look all that pretty under there anyway.

Such a shame you can't properly see the engine on any new Porsche car!

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Seems to me I have seen at least one pic of the underhood.... A mess of metallic heat shielding and wraps that would not look out of place on a Mars satellite.

The more I see of this car, the more I like it. Performance has gotten better and better too.

When do you expect yours, Whoopsy?

The 918 is a masterpiece, a dream come true from Porsche. I wish I could afford one, it would be my ultimate toy.

I know if you are spending close to a million dollars on a car this should not matter but what is the maintenance schedule and costs for the 918?

It was on hold pending my Palm Springs trip as I had wanted to check out seats. I told them what I want there and I was told my order has gone back in line already when I visited the LA Autoshow the next day. March production and should be at my dealership April, May.

I asked but seems like no one has the answer yet, guess they haven't decided how much.

Education guess? My Turbo S cost $700 and my 12C cost me $1500 yearly service, but with a accessible top hatch, and much simpler drivetrain. Figures maybe double what it cost, $3000, then add maybe a 30% super car 'premium'? I would say in the $4k-$5k range for a yearly service.

What type of warranty are they giving? Will they be standing behind the batteries?

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

For the car itself, it's the standard 4 year warranty. It has been reported earlier and confirmed multiple times that they will warranty the battery for 7 years.

Whoopsy, send me a PM when my friend contacts you.  I sent him your contacts and he will follow up.  His car is an early March production car.  He enjoyed the Palm Desert event...

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Haha, well he went to the earlier session so he got to drive the damn car, I only got to seat in it :(

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I haven't had contact with him yet. But I did communicated with another person on another board who had driven the 918 AND a P1. I am not at liberty to say what he told me as I didn't ask for permission to repeat, let's just say he didn't regard one bit on the decision to buy the 918 and gives up on the P1 like me and said the car was out of this world and the P1 was quite a disappointment.

I was told Porsche might, if time permits, and the cars are ready, they might do another event at their Alabama driving school before the end of year. But key word is 'might'.

Whoopsy, I did talk to my friend who said the car was "phenomenal".  He also just took delivery of an F12 and a Turbo S.  I will ask him for some more comments on all three cars, and if he says it is okay to post the comments anonymously, i will post them here.

At my house, this would mean pasta with no sauce, no dishes, no heating, no water and only some tap water on the side. Smiley Still thinking about a 918 but it is pointless. Smiley

Nah, dialysis is way too expensive (more than pasta with sauce). Smiley

There is a Pawn shop in the Ozarks named 'Family Pawn'.  I often wonder how much I could get for the kids? How much is the 918 rental for a week?

Can't wait until Whoopsy gets the car - amazing machine to be certain.
