    Re: New Range Rover Sport

Most premium SUVs in my neck of the woods are driven by tasteless idiots.  It gives the whole market a bad name.

Yet an old original Range Rover or better still Land Rover is the height of good taste, along with Volvo, Subaru and very old Mercedes estates.  No sports car is really deemed tasteful but you can get away with classics.

Are you kidding? Subaru or Volvo? I won't even start to tell you what people over here think of these brands.

I wouldn't want to get caught dead in a Volvo or worse, Saab. Smiley

Snob or not, Saab and Volvo are really awful cars. I say this as a car lover, someone who would rather drive a Smart than a Saab or Volvo. Smiley My father in law is an architecture professor and he hates Saab. I remember once a discussion about cars with him and the Saab was amongst the cars he likes least  Smiley. Eccentric owners? Well, possible. Most Saab and Volvo owners I knew were younger middle class intellectuals with a tendency to socialist ideals. Not really my cup of tea (the cars and the people driving them Smiley Smiley. In the 80s, when the green movement started in Germany, older Volvo and Saab cars were kind of the "Volkswagen" of the Greens. Yes, stereotypes but they worked pretty well in this case. Thanks god Saab and Volvo kind of disappeared, the IKEAs of the car world. Smiley

I am sorry, I didn't want to hurt your feelings but why would you want to buy a Volvo XC90? Smiley There are so many good and nice SUVs out there, this can't be about money only.

Ha ha - it takes more than that to offend me! At the time, wife worked for Volvo and we needed a 7 seat car. There are other SUVs - I was going to buy X5 again, but for the price, it was too good an offer to pass up. Aside from space, the main advantage is it's simply a truck. I have no attachment to it and therefore suits it's intended purpose perfectly.

I get it. Smiley I'm a little bit different, even the family or other cars I drive have to be as powerful as possible and as sporty as possible. I even got my 80 year old mother a Mini Countryman Cooper S because I drive this car from time to time too. Smiley She just needed a good winter driver. Wasn't really the best idea, so the next car is going to be a Mini Cooper Diesel (I wanted a Mercedes A45 AMG but my wife said I'm nuts and that poor woman, my mother, would kill herself in this car... Smiley). I make a lot of compromises but when it comes to cars, I'm kind of a maniac. Smiley Smiley

    Re: New Range Rover Sport

First of all - I wouldnt want to found dead in any kind of car!

Regarding taste - Volvo and Saab are probably the worst cars I ever been driven (as rentals). I always thought that Volvo is a good car until I was behind the wheel of one. Also - I once had a Saab Convertible from Avis - yecki... what a bad car. Not only ugly - just bad!

One thing I admit - the Range Rover or even better a Land Rover is the ultimate in style. You never are off with it. In three good years with the RRS I have to say - never a bad word from anyone - no jealous thoughts - the car is indeed very good and I think british understating just great! Unfortunately the 2014 generation can't keep up with it - but thats a different story.

    Re: New Range Rover Sport

Finally saw the RRS in the metal. I was going from oa meeting to another and saw it was alongside me in traffic. White with black roof and black accents. It looked very nice !! I can see why some people aren't too crazy about the back but still I liked it a lot. I like the fact that it looks very appealing to someone who knows cars but at the same time it's very discreet, very low key. I gotta say it gives the cayenne a good competition. I still consider the comparison between the two a bit like talking apples and oranges. But in countries like mine with bad roads, off road conditions some times, and infernal traffic, the RR might make more sense than the more sporty Cayenne.

I finally saw a RRS in the metal last evening and was incredibly impressed by the sound.  This vehicle is very impressive, and I'm never a fan of an SUV.  However, I've been impressed with the new RR and now the RRS.  I'm seriously considering one for the city.

    Re: New Range Rover Sport

I'm looking forward to the Hybrid being available in 2014 in Switzerland. I hear they'll start taking orders at the beginning of the year and I'm looking forward to placing my order for a toy-laden version! kiss

On a related topic, I took the larger RR out for a drive and you can feel the difference in size. I'm not even sure I'd be able to get it down the ramp to my garage mail

    Re: New Range Rover Sport

Saw the RRS in the flesh. Couldn't test drive it. We only saw the V6 version. Interior looked nice. The car was smaller than what I expected, which is a plus. Couldn't see the third row. Now we have to try to test drive the supercharged with dynamic package to see how it compared to the last gen Cayenne TTS...

Outside is looking good (not the rear) - interior lacks on shapes.... quit boring and the fact they reduced so many things (second glove box, 100% foldable rear seats, Nappa leather dash, ...) just is annoying.

I got an offer for the Hybrid - its round about 8000 € more than the 292HP. I guess this would be my choice if we would decide on one.

The RR we had, too. After that I was sitting back in our old RRS - gosh, the RRS felt like a sportscar compared, to. And - the RR was the 8Zylinder Diesel, while we have just the 254HP Diesel... amazing.

    Re: New Range Rover Sport

Test Drove both the RRS and RR V6 yesterday. They didn't have any V8s to test drive. What a difference between the two. The RRS is very similar to my wife's X5. The RR was like a land yacht in comparison - so smooth and regal.

The only problem - My RR won't be delivered until June earliest!

I was very impressed when I test drove the RRS recently.  The V8 is a beast and the sound is amazing.

I've been seeing a few driving around town, one close to my office so I see it almost every day. The more I see it the more I like it. The RR looks great overall (theres something about the two small intakes at the front that need to be addressed on the facelift) It has a great stance and when seen from the back it looks planted and strong.

I don't know I think for me personally the current RR line is taking the cake. Sure the cayenne is sportier, but i don't know, I see a Cayenne Turbo and sure its pretty cool, but the RR or the RRS (I've only seen it once) just really hit a spot with me.

    Re: New Range Rover Sport

I tried the RRS  diesel 3.0 . That one was so booooring . Then I tried the V6 supercharged . It was better as a bit more nervous, but still…. I came away disappointed  as there was no real enjoyment in driving any of them surprise

    Re: New Range Rover Sport

From a Cayenne I expect Porsche like performance, that's why I choose the S. The GTS wasn't avaialble then and the Turbo was too much (money, performance etc.) for my needs.

If I was in the market for a big  SUV now I would probably go for a RRS but focus more on luxury, so a Diesel or a V6 would be fine. I would not buy a Cayenne just before the facelift.

If you need a third row there are not a lot of options other that the RRS or the X5..

New Audi, but you have to wait another year!

For me, any choice of automobile wouldn't be complete unless a VW Group product is included in the evaluation. So glad Porsche are finally also part of this Concern.

    Re: New Range Rover Sport

We have a Q7 4.2 premium for when we need the third row. Not bad but you an't even compare to a Cayenne. Two categories below. I don't see how the new Q7 will even come close. Never been a fan of the X5.

To be honest just seeing the interest the new RR and RRS generate here, it has to be a good car.

Now what about that RRS RS?
