Congrats RC. You chose a really nice combo. Smiley

Enjoy it while you can, life is short.

Stupid question: Does anyone know what this could be? Looks like a harmless manufacturing flaw but I want to be sure? It is round, seems to have a cut halfway and when I move my finger over it, it feels very hard.

OK, guys...false alarm. This is just a minor visual production (Pirelli) flaw with no impact whatsoever regarding product safety.  Good to know, I learned something new. Smiley

Left-field thought: you already have red in your car, ever thought how the lettering would look in red?

I thought about getting the "S" painted in red but the whole lettering? A bit too playful I'm afraid. Smiley

Disagree. Cherry red interior, yellow calipers, red lettering on the back ... too much. Keep it black and stay cohesive.

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

    Agreed!

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

Big congrats on a fantastic car! I really like the subtle agate grey exterior. It would probably have been my choice as well. I would however absolutely not paint the S in red. Look waaay to aftermarket and like said before will clash with the yellow calipers. But of course everything is personal preferences.

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

Think about using body colour in the lettering. Agate is the type of colour that might suit this.

Nope, not a fan of body color for the lettering.

How about the "S" in yellow? Smiley No, just kidding.

Everything is going to be in matte black, don't worry.

Awesome car RC!  I would not be able to go to work, just driving for a couple of months would be my thing.

Does the PDK gear shifter shift like the GT3 (in direction to upshift and down) or is it like the 991 (backwards)?

I think what the previous poster meant is that when when changing gears yourself, you would use the paddles behind the steering wheel rather than using the gear lever.

Why would one change gears over the expert skill and knowledge of the Porsche PDK-S?  If one's foot is too slow to depress a clutch pedal, than one's finger is too slow to pull a paddle.  Skynet, um PDK, knows best.

Believe me, I would love to do the same but I can't. I drove my car over the weekend (two days) and yesterday (half a day) and will drive it again on Saturday. Work comes first, otherwise I cannot pay for the car. Smiley

Does the PDK gear shifter shift like the GT3 (in direction to upshift and down) or is it like the 991 (backwards)?

Unlike the GT3, the Turbo S has the same shifting pattern as the Carrera models. I don't like it either but... Smiley

Using the paddles is most comfortable though, so no real issue. I catch myself using PDK in manual mode more often than expected, so I guess this says a lot about the shifting quality. In Sport Plus mode, the shifting is faster/harsher and since you can choose when you shift, you can use it on public roads too. Only Sport Plus auto mode cannot be used on public roads since it upshifts way too late.

I can only take a guess: Marketing. The GT3 is "different".

Why isn't a black lettering available for the Turbo/Turbo S? Why aren't the GT3 rims (the design) available for the Turbo/Turbo S?

Also, it could be something else: Cost. Look at the Turbo S PDK (lower side) gear lever. There is a "turbo" lettering but not "turbo S" (as it should be). This is actually something which really annoys me more than I thought. When I asked for the reason, the answer was honest and quite frankly surprising: There have so many different parts, logistics is a nightmare and they just wanted to reduce the number of different parts. Well...I think they found the wrong one for that purpose. First thing my son asked when he looked around the car for the very first time: "Why is there "turbo" below the PDK gear lever and not "turbo S"? Good question, son. Smiley

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

I agree it should say "turbo s" but i think it has to do with the way it says "carrera" regardless of whether it's the base or s model... same with turbo.. it's part of the "turbo" family, whether it's base turbo or turbo s.

but yes, for the money it should say carrera, carrera s, carrera 4, 4s, turbo, turbo s, etc.

This would have been a good explanation but I got it first hand and it kind of surprised me. I get the logistics/parts stuff but maybe they should have scrubbed it completely then.

Porsche are just cheap skates ! Fleece the customer while cutting down cost... I don't believe it's logistics, the amount the supplier would charge for a different lettering won't add up for Porsche hence the directive to use turbo lettering for both models Smiley

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

Turbo S is a lot of money, there should be no interior trim identity issues and they shouldn't just merrily throw a cosmetically blemished tire onto a new $$$$$$$ car either.   Also look at the image that shows the "road" side of the engine. The electrical wire lead, its plug and receptacle are not covered by a boot. Its just left exposed to the elements. Dumb.

Audi, for example, and Mercedes-Benz have integrated the transmission with the navigational system to anticipate changes in road, terrain and traffic.

I agree with the engine cover and am less concerned with the tire's appearance as molding marks are very, very common.

Porsche makes significant statements on aerodynamic efficiency yet the engine remains uncovered.  Sophisticated aerodynamics involves the shaping of the underside as well as the top side of the vehicle.  While cooling issues remain, there is also a need to smooth the airflow before it exits the rear of the car too.

I'm jealous... because you've received your Turbo S when I'm still waiting for my GT3 which was revealed first! :p

Enjoy and thx for all your useful and nice posts.

Not really the quality finish I'd expected. How come this is not a flat bottom like the GT3?

How is the break-in going? I am quite curious about your opinion of the full performance of the Turbo S! The performance values are stunning!

What confirms the GT3 will have a flat bottom?  There's an aerodynamics video from Porsche describing how the Active Aerodynamics works on the new Turbo/S and it shows a flat bottom... Obviously reality was different.

If only I knew where I have seen those pictures. Sorry, I cannot remember where I have seen this. It was a series of pictures from Goodwood. (Correct me if I am wrong)

This can be a pre production model ofcourse.

Can anybody help me/us with this?
