Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

RC do know know if Turbo S can have the  Steel Brakes  ? the normal one ?

like for example PCCB got damged or need to be replaced  ...they are so Expensive so i dont wanna pay for it .. i can use the normal Steel ?

    thanks

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

Unfortunately, the answer is no. IMHO 991 Turbo S do not need PCCBs as standard item since normal 380mm(F/R) steel brakes on 991 Turbo are the best steel brakes and more then good enough for street and autobahn driving.

Question is how many buyer would order PCCBs if they were optional on 991 Turbo S? My guess-less then 20%...

I think it wold take very poor care on your part to break a set of PCCB. If I were  you I wouldn't get sad about hypotheticals.

Re: 991 Turbo S - Short Driving Report (owner)

I wish some of the clueless bleeding heart liberals in the US could read this thread. They don't understand why socialism failed so miserably in Europe after fifty years. Europeans want to go towards free market capitalism while these idiots want to adapt a failed system. I bet you people like Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean who are strong proponents of a single payor health care system (social medicine) have no idea what it actually entails. They don't understand that once you take the incentive out of hard work no one wants to work anymore. I lived in Eastern Europe for 8 years before I came to the US. I have seen what socialism and social medicine means first hand. Patients are treated like sub humans. If you want a CT OR MRI you wait 6 months. If you need a knee replacement the wait list can be as long as 2 years!!! The whole system is broken. Patients have to pay everyone in the hospital off if they don't want to be ignored and forgotten. Doctors have to tolerate the indignity of having envelopes with cash stuffed in their lab coats by desperate patients who just want to survive. And this is what Obama and his friends want for this country!!!

But don't worry RC. This is still the best country in the world. Truly the land of golden opportunities. For people who work hard and play by the rules. Hopefully in 2016 we'll get a republican back in the White House and regain control of the senate and put this country back on the right track.

Wish you and your family the best of luck in the green card lottery.

this discussion is really borderline....so let me blend in with a borderline statement. the great policeman of the whole world has totally messed up the world which it wanted to police. the US has established a global surveillance system which not even orwell could have predicted, spying on foes, friends and everybody else. the US has antagonized 80% of the world population, and they can't even keep their own backyard tidy: not a single week passes where we do not read about college/high school shootings, mall drive-by shootings etc. a great place to live? OMG, i would not even accept a green card if they paid me ten million dollars for it. and let me add, i spent many years over in the US, but now i even loathe to travel there and waste hours in immigration lines at JFK, O'Hare, Atlanta, Miami etc. NSA is certainly reading this, so i expect to be questioned on my next entry in god's own country. i am so happy to be an EC citizen...

Yes and in the U.K. they are driving on the wrong the of the road! :P  what's worse?! LOL  (just kidding of course)

For 10 million dollars I would gladly move to USA, but there are points of truth in what you say. However, I'm on holiday in the U.S. right now and I'm having a great time, but I wouldn't trade Switzerland for the USA.
On the other hand... there's not one country in the world where everything is perfect.

One has to live where one feels most happy.

And on that bombshell... back on topic! Smiley

Let me tell you one thing (since I worked in diplomacy and know German diplomacy and the intelligence community very very well): If something like 9/11 would have happened in Germany, what is going on now in the US (military actions, NSA, etc.) would be child's play only in comparison to what Germany would have done. Same applies to other countries in Europe, does someone remember what happened after the metro bombings in Paris many many years ago?

You are happy to be a EU citizen because you don't have a clue what is going on regarding the EU intelligence community. Just as a little hint (and then I will shut up): Every EU embassy (and other countries of course too) has a certain room in the embassy...not only the US and the UK. Furthermore, the NSA provided (and still provides) data to EU intelligence services, they all have close ties, this is why politicians have no interest whatsoever to expose the tight links. It is so unfair to criticize the NSA and the GCHQ for their "snooping around" because actually the major EU intelligence services had FULL access to their information.

So I advice every EU citizen to trust the media over here a little bit less because while Snowden is right with his "leaks", the Europeans aren't much better than the NSA and others.

Regarding Snowden: In my opinion, he is not a hero. He is a traitor. Not to the US but to the whole West. The damage he did will continue to affect the world for the next couple of decades. It will cost billions to find new methods to be able to trace terrorists and organized criminals, now that they know which communications are tapped and especially to what extent, including the encryption flaws (RC4 is rumored to be decrypted by the NSA in realtime for example, which has a HUGE impact).

There is one point however which should be done: The intelligence community, especially the electronic surveillance branches, need better "control" functions. Their employees should not have a free hand to do what they want (which they basically had so far, it wasn't difficult to tap spouses or people they were interested in, something which even under the current law is completely illegal). What the intelligence community is doing is necessary but it should be controlled much better by a parliamentary control group.

The problem with the public and the media is: Intelligence agencies cannot work efficient if they unveil their methods or try to be "open" about their work. This is something the public doesn't seem to understand. The problem is that the public gets "angry" the moment the intelligence community doesn't want to unveil details because the public thinks they have something to hide. Of course they have something to hide, this is their job. Smiley

Let's be real: Nobody can be such a hypocrite not to understand the value of the work of intelligence agencies. Yes, some agencies may have gone to far but this is something which needs NOT to be discussed in public, this is something politicians should take care of and they should be held responsible for the failure of controlling the intelligence community in a more effective way.

Now let's get back to topic, this is way to complex to be discussed on a car forum. Smiley Just keep in mind that no other western country has experience an event like 9/11, so we should cut the US some slack. Also don't forget that the Europeans helped the US out in every possible way to get things done after 9/11, even if many Europeans don't seem to realize that (or just don't want to).

Its pity that Porsche couldnt offer black-espresso combination through regular ordering process. I am sure this combination is pretty pricey (on already pricey Turbo as it is) through Porsche Exclusive program.

Thanks for the PS job Smiley, looks wonderful and it is really a pity that Porsche doesn't offer this combo. If this combo would have been available, I may have had chosen it with a white exterior.

Okay, I'm steering way clear of the political debate and turning back to the driving report theme.  Does anyone on the board have experience with how long it will take for my car that has completed production and arrived in the port of Emden last Wednesday, the 6th of November, to reach my dealer on the East Coast of The United States?

Why can't the political issues, being debated here, be moved to an off topic thread?

Interesting as they are, in their own right, they are disrupting the OP's account of a driver/owner's perspective of life with a 991 Turbo S...surprise

True but the software doesn't permit moving single posts, which is a pity. Smiley

I don't mind slightly off-topic posts but I can see why some people may feel annoyed and I apologize for that.

RC, did the thought of fitting the GT3 wheels to the Turbo S ever cross your mind?

The Turbo is wider than GT3, so may have different offsets.  I bet the RS (widebody) wheels may work on the Turbo when they are announced...

I am pretty sure that Porsche is going to make sure that the offset is different. Smiley Since the AWS is quite new, I would be careful with aftermarket/non-approved rims with different offsets/sizes before tuners have some experience with the new technology.

    absent,
Beautiful interior! White dials is just right. Leather is so much nicer than plastic, especially the air vents. Have you ordered any deviation stitching, or is it standard? Is that a radar/laser detector on the windscreen? Is it legal in US?
