    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Well I took the front lift because of the ramp in my parking at work and some of the european speedbumps ;-)

I'm not worried about scratches but some speedbumps and inclines will either rip the lip off clean or do substantial damage and that's what I don't want.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

    macca993:

Im the same - no lifter. Apart from the weight and the fact these items tend to cause issues with age (for 2nd and 3rd owners I guess probably not me) Ive been driving lower cars than this for years and learnt just to take a bit of care. The crux really came when I spoke with two local 7.2GT3RS owners with them fitted. One never remembered to use it after it was repaired for the second time he stopped using it, the second said he still had to replace the lip as it still got damaged even with the lifter. He had also had issues with it under warranty.

Apart from the weight and complexity issues has anyone noticed that in the static and moving press/journalist shots the cars that look lower at the front seem to be the non lift cars tested? Its funny because the initial press shots (white car at race track) the height profile looked awesome. I think its been photoshopped. I doubt the car turned a wheel in most of these pictures. Then I started to compare pictures across articles. It wasnt conclusive but it seemed to me the cars that sat lower at the front when static were the ones where the dsh shots showed no front lift option. Could have easily been an empty gas tank creating the illusion too so not prize there!

The 991 GT3 seems in photos where it has sat next to the 997.2 gt3 to have fractionally more ground clearance in any case. The area I think thats going to get damaged are the black PU air scoops thats sit forward of the front wheels. They look like a silly design being so low. Hopefully they are rubber. In any case a front lift kit wont save them as they are too far back.....just my 2c worth....

well macca you have a point. the front lifter in my F458 (probably stemming from the same supplier as the one on the GT3) leaked oil after a week and had to be replaced under warranty. since then i hardly ever use it but i think the GT3 is definitely lower than the F458.

my lift works like a charm since 3 years and safed me lots of times - the angles here in CH sometimes are very steep (garage and bumps) and since the car is even lower than a GT2 or 458 - to me it needs it....

I guess the streets in California or elsewhere in the US are better than in Europe. Not. Smiley Each time I'm in the US, I am happy driving a SUV because the roads can be great most of the time and then...boom...comes the surprise. Of course I am a tourist, so I may not know my way around to avoid bad roads or parking garages with "issues" (however they are very big, so no issues easily parking a huge SUV there) but I think it provides owners with a better good night's sleep to have a lift on their GT3. Just saying.

The lifters on the 997 have had several problems which are documented on various car sites. Hopefully, Porsche has corrected the problems in the 991's.

BTW, does your TTS have a lifter?

Active aerodynamics...no need for a lifter. Smiley

Look at this photo...my car, when it arrived. No issues with ground clearance.

A small update on the GT3 delivery delay: According to latest rumors, customer deliveries will now be delayed by 4 weeks.

Meaning: If your car was supposed to arrive at your dealer on let's say December 15th, it will arrive there one month later.

Just for orientation, it could be a couple of days earlier or later.

Ask your dealer, he has the details (even if he claims he doesn't).

No such thing ever. 90L was offered since 964 in Euro LHD countries, now for first time in LHD ROW countries but not yet in RHD countries. Of course maybe its now available from a particular production date....

Vish is checking, he is used to ordering 100 L tank for all models in NZ, examples on their website... Maybe it is a production date, will advise when i hear from him

I wonder is that for only early production cars or does that push back all cars?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I suppose this applies to all cars. Your dealer should be able to tell you the precise production date (not so much the delivery date due to transport, etc.). It takes him only a minute to check for it in the Porsche system.

This is what my European dealers enquirey into the Porsche system is saying for my RHD order. Note it was already pushed out from October production to November production months go when the factory were plying around with allocations. These are his words exactly-

Your GT3 shows a completion date week 46/2013 (mid November)

However there is a remark next to the completion week saying "delayed"

But from past experiences this is a delay of 1 week (max 10 days)

There is no OFFICIAL communication for any sort of delay.

I checked three days ago and he said my original build date of 12/03/13 has not changed. Not sure what to make of this. Honestly, I don't care one way or another. Makes no difference to me. I am long past the days when I was so anxious for my Ferrari that I paid $7000 to air freight to get it 4-6 weeks earlier.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

From November issue Car & Driver Instrumented Test of 991 GT3:

    curb weight: 3197 lbs
wt distribution: 39.3% front, 60.7% rear

    0-60 mph: 3.0 seconds
    0-100 mph: 7.1 seconds
    0-120 mph: 10.1 seconds

    5-60mph: 3.9 seconds

    1/4 mile: 11.2 seconds @ 126 mph

braking 70 mph to zero: 135 ft

    200 ft skidpad: 1.12 g

I did a calculation on the following website (assume driver weight is 173 pounds) and came up with 533 hp using the trap speed of 126mph and 480hp using 1/4 mile time of 11.2s.  Averaged together you get 506.5hp (consistent with rumor that all motors are dyno'ing over 500hp):

0-60mph in 3.0s is incredible for a rear wheel drive car!

What gear is used for the 5-60mph time?

I'm sure they use 1st gear, but they don't drop the clutch (or use launch control in this case) like they do for 0-60.

I see, so it's more representative of 'street' performance where you wouldn't regularly be turning launch control on?!

I guess it illustrates engine flexibility (and favorable gearing in this case) to pull away from low revs.

I hope you are right. Just yesterday, I heard that the situation got even worse and that they do not provide production estimate dates anymore for newly ordered cars. Basically, the cars are delayed by more than four weeks, maybe you should check with your dealer again over the next couple of days, just to be sure.
