If SPD, Grüne and Linke make a coalition, I will move to a different EU country (for now). No kidding. Already talked to my wife about this.
I can totally understand that! It would be a big disaster for Germany, but not only germany... Also other countries like the Netherlands won't be happy with such a coalition in Germany.
I'm just another female petrolhead :)
This is a theoretical scenario. It won't happen because neither the CDU nor the SPD want it to happen. It's not to their political interest.
Angela Merkel will have to put some water in her wine and soften on taxation to satisfy the socialist party.
Will Wolfgang Schaeuble stay on as Finance Minister in the new coalition? I wonder?

Thats undecided for now. Usually the job will be claimed by the coalition partner. Actually Wolfgang Schäuble has a chance to stay. We must see...
I actually prefer a coalition with the green party. They are small, they are focused mainly on the environment, a much easier partner for the CDU/CSU in my opinion. Seehofer (CSU) may not agree but I think the green party is the best chance to keep the financial/tax policy untouched.
On the other hand, both, SPD and Grüne (green party) are afraid they would loose many of their typical voters, so they may actually prefer not to enter a big coalition which could be suicide in the end (look at the FDP)?
I would actually prefer new elections. With the AfD voters HOPEFULLY having more brains this time and the FDP voters knowing what is at stake, the CDU/CSU could actually gain a majority.

If Merkel compromizes extensively to lure the SPD her high vote on Sunday will amount to a Pyrrhic Victory. The socialists seem to want to squeeze many things out of the necessity for a coalition. The government might not work and she will bear the political cost.
Call for new elections, in order to get a strong mandate.

A call for new elections isn't that easy because theoretically, the SPD/Grüne/Linke could form a government, even the SPD with Grüne could create a minority government...theoretically. Also, until a new government (coalition) is found, the old one stays in place. So the CDU/CSU/FDP coalition is in no hurry.
If a SPD/Grüne/Linke coalition is created, the stock markets over here would tank and many people, like me, would probably leave Germany. This is no joke. The risk staying here would be too high.

Have there been any opinion polls published that show how AfD would behave in a re-election? Also would FDP recoup their losses in the spectrum of a possible left wing coalition?
I think that AfD and FDP voters would be intelligent enough to realize that only voting with CDU/CSU would prevent the leftist parties from gaining power in Germany. Merkel was probably too over-confident when she asked voters to give both votes to CDU/CSU (the second vote went to the FDP in the past, to assure a coalition). This may have been a huge strategical mistake now but also the fact that many voted with AfD. All AfD did was actually pave the ground for a SPD/Grüne/Linke government, a REAL disaster.

AfD who style themselves as moderate and middle class are unwittingly the Trojan Horse of the left
Indeed. I know they haven't planned this but they actually destroyed the chance of a CDU/CSU majority.
