We all know who the Al-Thani family is and I guess the police in Qatar wouldn't care much if a member of the family drives around in a 991 Turbo S without license plates or registration. Smiley

I am happy for them, they have a good taste in cars. I met some members of the Al-Thani family in Spain last year, when they stopped by in their super yacht Katara. They threw anchor in Salou (see photo) and came to the beach, very nice people. Maybe we should have exchanged our business cards. Smiley

No, they haven't. These are the optional exhaust pipes we talked about a couple of months ago. Smiley

As far as I know, no. The round exhaust pipes are silver.

Interesting... It gives up a bit of "differentiation" from the Turbo S, but at least it now matches the lettering and headlight housing up front.

    On the Turbo S, yes

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Does anybody knows PDK in GT3 and Turbo S are the same?  I was reading the artical about GT3's PDK S is different from Regular Carrera S, but trying to find artical about Turbo S PDK running the same program as GT3's PDK... There isn't any...

GT3's PDK is faster than Carrera, by program or there are tech. hardware makes GT3's PDK different?  The inside gear shift has two stripe running through, of which Turbo S doesn't.....   Does that mean Turbo S PDK is slower than GT3?

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

No, the PDK is not the same. The Turbo/Turbo S PDK is based on the 997 Turbo/Turbo S PDK but has been highly improved, it is not a new development though, like the GT3 PDK.

Turbo S PDK is slightly slower than GT3 but not by much. Shifting times are faster than on the Ferrari 458.

Is 991 PDK is used both on carrera and turbo/S?  I thought 991 Carrera PDK is different than 997s

    huangester:

All I know is that Porsche improved the 997 Turbo/S PDK for the 991 Turbo/S. This doesn't mean it is the same but it is based on it, same as the 991 Turbo/S engine is based on the 997 Turbo/S engine but like PDK, they do not share a single part. It is not a completely new development though but the improvements are substantial.

According to information about the GT3, the PDK in the GT3 is a completely new development specifically for the GT3.

I have to rely on rumors, so it may not be accurate (I still haven't received the technical documentation but I hope to get it soon).

The AutoZeitung times are always on the lower side (not sure why) but the 2.9 seconds prove that the 991 Turbo S will achieve AT LEAST the factory claim of 3.1 seconds. Smiley

What about the 0-200 kph time? I tried to purchase the latest Autozeitung issue through iTunes but the app crashes (iPhone 5S, iOS 7.0.1). Dammit.

Latest MP4-12C did 8.9s for 0-200km/h in AZ.

Btw, I got unofficial test numbers for 991 Turbo S in AMS and SA-unfortunatelly not that impressive-barely as good as factory claims.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

    Whoopsy:

Not quite, 12C do the 0-200km/hr in 8.8s

Sport Auto Supertest: 9.8 seconds. This was the 600 hp version as far as I remember.

Sport Auto tested the Spider (620 hp) at 9.3 seconds.  0-100 kph in 3.3 seconds.

There is a long way to 8.8. Smiley

Autozeitung always achieves better numbers than other car magazines, according to our sources this has to do something with the asphalt they run the acceleration tests on (it is very sticky).

This is why I don't trust their numbers, I rather think that a 991 Turbo S in a "good" shape does 0-200 kph in 9.8-9.9 seconds or so and regular cars in 10.1 or 10.2 seconds (like Kreso already indicated). The 0-100 kph acceleration will be always in the 2.9-3.0 seconds range, no surprises here.

Interesting: Autozeitung tested the 991 Turbo S in 0.9 seconds from 0-40 kph. This is a new record for them.

I am curious about the AMS and SA test (acceleration figures should be the same) and especially the Hockenheim test. A little birdie told me that the 991 Turbo S rocks in Hockenheim, whatever this means. Smiley

To be honest, I haven't driven one yet, I just have driven in one to hear the difference of the sound symposer setup.

According to everything I heard, there isn't much difference between the Turbo and Turbo S in the lower speed range below 160 kph (100 mph). Even in the speed range up to 220 kph, the difference is quite small (a car length maybe) but at higher speeds, the Turbo S is faster. Also the Turbo S does better with mid-speed accelerations due to the higher rev limit and higher boost figure.

On speed limited streets, you won't notice a difference.

    • AMS (600 hp model): 9,2 s (with 2 persons onboard)
    • AutoZeitung (625 hp model): 8,9 s (with 1 person onboard)
    • AutoBild Sportscars (625 hp model): 8,8 s (with 1 person onboard)

Sport Auto is relatively slow because of the additional weight (co-driver), not to mention the less grippy surface of Hockenheimring.
