Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

I've known Mark since his days at Volvo and I'm not sure it's entirely down to him if things aren't going so well at Hatfield. He was at Jardines East London before, so Porsche must have thought him capable at Hatfield. Last event I went to (Cayman Launch) if anything, was too busy. I assume he's picked Hendon as this is probably where most of the clientele live? I also knew Perry from the days of HR Owen in St Albans (even when it was known as Chariots!!) but he never struck me as an engaging DP - people did seem to rate him though.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

First bought a Cayenne from them when they were in their old building through Lee but decided to use Silverstone for the 997.2 since they offered the best deal (Hatfied gave no discount whatsoever). I went for the PDE at silverstone and surprisingly Perry recognised me and introduced himself to me, I could imagine that he wasnt too happy that I used Siverstone instead of Hatfield. Also, Hatfields Service dept sucks, I took my car in for service and somehow they ended up blowing up my passenger heated seats on my Cayenne Smiley

It's certainly changed recently. My old salesman - Paddy Patel has moved to Ferrari. He must have been there for 15+ years!!

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

Loved the 50 year anniversary edition when I first saw it. But on second look, the design elements are just incongruous.

As with old girlfriends, you can't go back. Having said that, I would love to drive a factory fresh 914, for old times' sake.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

Had I seen photo's of it in black I may have spec'ed it this way and taken delivery as it looks better in this IMHO than the two greys.

    That looks absolutely stunning!

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

Very tasteful this black Anniversary model. The black paint matches well with the Classic wheels, the chrome grille and the chrome window surrounds.

I thought the 50 years was made only in grey and white! Is this a factory car? LB is Ludwigsburg?

    Looks great in black indeed!

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

I think it is the chrome details and those wheels that enhance the black colour. Otherwise, I am not sure.

I cancelled my order after I had a spray out painted of the Geyser Grey. I just did not like the colour at all and the heavily retouched photo's Porsche used to announce the car and upon which I placed my order were very misleading and made the grey look much darker than it actually is. The final straw was around 3 weeks ago when I was standing in my dealer's showroom showing him the spray out I'd had done when a VW Caddy van drove past in the exact same shade of grey Smiley

OUCH !!  That's how the colour looks in reality? that's very misleading. That is far, very far from how the press shots make it look. Black looks amazing though, why didn't you just switch your colour choice?

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

It was too late to switch my colour choice as the production order was locked. I hadn't seen photo's of the black version until last night either so didn't know that it looked this good. I normally wouldn't consider solid black as it is so hard to look after but I'd have made an exception for this car.

Totally agree with you on this. Solid black is a pain in the ***

It looks really nice in combination with the chrome parts IMHO.

Personally I skipped on this car because I really think there is too little added value. The number of produced units is just too high for me to consider it as a limited edition. Also I think the price difference with the GT3 is just too small. Don't get me wrong, I really like the car but to me it's just not worth that kind of money. Also in the country where I live the powerkit is NOT included in the price. (So I can understand americans do like the car)

    Anyway, especially in black it's a beauty!Smiley

I have been quite critical of Porsche's lack of color coordination in the past, but they have got it spot-on with this car. To my eyes, this is by far the nicest 911 currently on sale. Just amazing.

Sooo... if I understand you correctly you just took delivery of a VW Caddy? Smiley

On a serious note though, I don´t think this colour is too dark or too grey. I rather think that it delivers far too little reflection for the shape contemporary 911s have. One just doesn´t benefit from the reflections that will appear on a silver or (clean) flat black car.

I am still not convinced with those chrome elements on the 50th Anniv. edition. In my opinion, they just don´t fit the design language. The black colour of the above example matches perfectly the black element on the rims but I still think that they are far too bold for a factory design. Would Techart come up with such a design it would be perfectly appropriate. From Porsche themselves... not so much. I especially dislike the difference in wheel offset between front and rear wheels. Have to say that I very much like the interior with those center segments in cloth, simply because they are different from the ubiquitous leather seats.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

I fully agree with you regarding the chrome but I guess this is Porsche's way of "classic design elements". I just love the pale grey, I would have ordered without even blinking with an eye for my 991 Turbo S if it would have been available. Not everyone is into Ferrari red...or yellow.

Conversely.... not everyone is into grey or black Smiley  It would have been nice if Porsche had given at lest one "colour" option other than the somewhat monochrome colours they have offered. They have such a rich back catalogue of colour to choose from that it is baffling they did not use any of them Smiley

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

Colors never seem to have been a strength of Porsche, I agree. On a 200+k EUR car, I have basically 14 colors to choose from, which in my opinion is not enough. The paint to sample option is great but waiting at least 6 months for it? Nope. Porsche has so many already "approved" colors, there has to be a way to get them fast and without a big fuss and/or a very high premium. I am not 100% happy with my 991 Turbo S color choice (agate grey) but everything else I liked would have delayed my car production by at least six months. This is ridiculous.

Totally agree... And now they even start lying to customers....Smiley

I asked them roughly a month ago if some sort of white metallic was available for PTS, because the rhodium that I choose first was becoming way too populair. They said it wasn't available and had first to be checked for feasibility (which takes another couple of months extra), so in the end I went for a middle grey shade of metallic (stone grey).  Couple of weeks later there's a Turbo S in white metallic on the IAA which looked absolutely awesome!!.

i've let it rest for a couple of days but i'm starting to get pissed off now! Smiley Too bad my order is locked... Otherwise they could stick their 911 in a place where no light ever shines.

Big deception for someone that is addicted to the brand....Smiley

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

They showed me a newer list (may 2013 i think, but I'm not 100% sure), but there wasn't any white metallic on either... That's why I asked them.

But when they say that it isn't possible within 5-6 months and a couple of weeks later there is a car in white metallic in front of your nose, then I get seriously pissed off...

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

I'm surprised they didn't offer you Carrara White metallic which they used for the Panamera Exclusive Middle East Edition. That colour was available on 997 as I nearly ordered it at one point but it was crazy money from memory.

Don't feel sorry Christian. They should feel sorry at the exclusive department in Zuffenhausen. A white metallic color on a panamera doesn't mean they can do a 991 in that color. Look at meteor grey. Standard color on the cayenne, not feasible on 991 and 981 (yet). It's just rediculous.  What's that 250 million paint factory about?? One would expect that almost everything is possible, but at porsche they are as flexible as concrete....

They should know what is going on with their colors.

i'm very disappointed, but I will contact my salesman on monday. He has helped me tremendous so far (not one bad word about him), so I guess he will also find a solution this time.

Re: Porsche 911 50 Year Edition

That's very sad to hear Suzy. Hopefully they still can do something for you.

Does anybody know why it is not possible to get all the colours on every model? There is just no use to have all that colours in stock but only give a dozen or so options per model?Smiley

Maybe it's more complicated to paint the cars? That they always can solve it the 'Porsche way'; just ask premium for it. But at least give people a choice. If you go to Bentley, Rolls they give you plenty.

They don't have to develop any new colours. They have them alreadySmiley
