Gnil:Did you not want to get the V8 diesel coming out in spring ? Any thoughts about that engine ?
I'm not that concerned about the engine for the sort of use I'll give the car. From my experience with the Evoques you can get very good results with remaps on LR engines so I may go that route if I feel the car could benefit from a bit more mid range punch.

Hilarious video... but I can wholeheartedly agree with each of Chris´ views. On top of that, found the show lacking the usual stunner. I get the feeling that many companies focus their effort on the emerging markets. Apart from Audi, no VAG company had a appropriate show car on display.
Great taste in clothing by the way, blue t-shirt combined with a light-brown jacket.

By the way, what´s the story on your 911 restoration?
Thanks Ferdie. My 911 is progressing well now I'm told after the restorer encountered more rust on the shell than anticipated. It has all been dealt with and the metal work welded and leaded to factory specs and should now be in the paint shop. A lot of the components have already been restored and are waiting to go back on the shell when it's completed.
I'm nearly finished the restoration of my third Dino. This car was in a bad way and had to have everything taken apart and restored so it is going to be my best car yet. The finishes on the restored parts are superb Once it's complete I will then start on my fourth which is a GTS model that I bought a few months back in London. It will be my last Dino ......... honest

does Ferrari know you are hoarding and trying to corner the market in Dinos
They haven't been too bothered about the Dino from what I can see though that will likely change now as values start to rise. They'll want to do all of the restorations at the factory Classiche department and try to encourage owners that this is the best option available

you can offer to do all the work for them as you have all the knowledge and access to experts .. they can claim they did it, you can make a profit

I would like to comment on the Chris Harris video from the IAA: Does somebody else get the feeling that he isn't too fond of Porsche anymore? I get the feeling that his relationship to Porsche has kind of taken a different path, a dip since he testdrove the GT3 and then the 918. Also he mentions that he is going to drive a 991 Turbo S in a couple of weeks but I actually expected a 991 Turbo S video from him much earlier (look at UK based Autocar or the many journalists who drove the 991 Turbo S at Bilster Berg). Weird. Or is it just me?

I don't know. He drove the 918 and the atmosphere felt a little bit tense I also got the feeling that his enthusiasm about the 918 at that time was very limited, to say at least. Maybe I'm just crazy.

I agree that he isn't as fond of Porsche as he used to be. His 981/991 reviews have been positive with caveats, whereas the Singer, Lotus Exige, Caterham reviews have been glowing. Perhaps its a UK thing because other forums are still full of moans about the new cars. And you see very few 991/981 on the road, even in London. Last weekend was the first time I have seen a 981 Cayman S on the road that wasn't an OPC demonstrator and it has been on sale for ages. My car went in for its 4 year service this morning so I asked how sales were on the sports car side. The response was that they're OK but the cars are being returned much earlier than normal with much, much lower mileages. So people aren't using them. Strange considering they have been designed to be more usable.

Don't worry. I haven't seen a single new Cayman (981) on the road in Germany so far and the car has been presented to the public months ago. However, I have seen many new Boxster driving around, so I guess the Cayman sales are not that great in Germany. Just a wild guess though.

There are a huge amount of 911s in the Toronto region (as in well over a thousand) but I've probably only seen 7 or 8 991s.
I'm sure they will come, but it's been slow and the dealer lots (and the "secret" underground storage lots that they have) are absolutely full.

In Germany, I see mostly 991 and 997 (not so many as expected). Maybe some older 911 from time to time but the 996 and even 993 are pretty seldom over here, at least over here in Bavaria.
