The Porsche 991 Turbo wins the "Autonis 2013"

Readers of German car magazine "auto, motor and sport" have chosen the new Porsche 911 Turbo as the best design innovation of 2013 in the "Sportscar" category. Michael Mauer, Director of the Style Porsche team, accepted the "Autonis" award – which is presented every year – in Stuttgart yesterday. In reference to the new top model in the 911 model line, Michael Mauer had the following to say: "The Porsche 911 Turbo is instantly recognisable. The air intakes at the side are particularly striking and a typical feature among Turbo models. The rear wing is another characteristic attribute; this feature has been integrated more effectively into the overall design."

The readers' survey saw a total of 17,860 people vote for 104 models in eight different categories. Ten vehicles from nine manufacturers were nominated in the "Sportscar" category.

Second place: Aston Martin DB9, third place: LaFerrari.

Biggest losers: Audi R8 and McLaren P1. Even worse: Nissan 370Z and Peugeot RCZ.

That is ridiculous. The 911 turbo might be a lot of things, but not a design award recipient. 99% of the population could not see the difference with the previous model...

The readers usually choose from a variety of cars, including sports cars. This is not a professional design price but one given based on reader (usual people) votes. I suppose the sympathy for a car is more important than the design itself but to be honest, have you both seen the 991 Turbo live? Smiley

Judging from the other 6 cars mentioned above (including Turbo we know 7 out the 10 candidates), readers didn't have much of a choice. LaFerrari is not everybody's cup of tea.

My vote would go to the 918. A superb design.

I have not seen the 911 live either, but from the hundreds of pictures and videos from every angle it looks stunning. In fact I have not heard anyone after seeing the car live, commenting it otherwise. All say the car looks amazing.

In fact, and after owning a 997TTS, my opinion is that this Turbo is much nicer than previous models: designs flows better, its longer, wider, lower stance, even looks more exotic, some say more "Astonish"..! Overall folks lets admit its a mayor design improvement over the 997. In fact, a big jump. I bet it will appeal more and more for those seeking for the practicality of the 911, but with a more exotic look.

The 911 design might be 50 years old, keep in mind too the current generation that grew with posters of the Lambo Countach and Ferrari Testarrossa in their rooms, will welcome a 911 with a more modern, exotic flair.
