    S-Class Coupe Concept

Usually I'm not a fan of the big coupe segment, but theres something about this car that I like a lot. I can't quite put my finger on it, maybe its the spot on proportions or the simplicity of the thing in a market crowded with over design. But I love how it looks. It the CL ends up looking like this then the 6 Series has it's work cut out for it.

    Re: S-Class Coupe Concept

    Hmm.

front looks like a Infiniti, rear looks like BMW 6 series. Inside looks like one of those speed boats I saw in a magazine.

    Re: S-Class Coupe Concept

Undecided whether I like it or not. I think we have to wait for the real thing.

I don't really understand coupe versions of cars meant to be sedans. Can't think of why I'd ever want a coupe over a sedan.

    Re: S-Class Coupe Concept

Interior is too much for a MB... It looks like a japaneese concept. heart

    Same here.

    Re: S-Class Coupe Concept

The section incorporating the front grille is very boxy and not good looking as on all recent M-B cars.

I know that there are certain pedestrian safety laws on front engined cars but couldn't the designers have found a better solution?

Well I just sat this morning in the new S-Class and was blown away. The display is out of this world - the cool interieur lights , massage seats etc - to me THE benchmark clearly these days. once the 4 wheel drive models are out I will seriously consider it. Fantastic car.

I sat in it recently as well and it is spectacular. Thick, supple leather all over the interior, the resolution on the main screen is Retina-like and the craftsmanship is beyond words. The Burmester speaker covers with the little landau bars alone are worth the splurge; such exquisite detailing in every inch of this car.

Mercedes-Benz has truly outdone themselves with the S and I fully believe the new S-Class Coupé will further push the mark. I saw a black S500L on the road the other night and I swear it looks like a Bentley. Truly excellent and undoubtedly the king of the road.

    Looks good.

Front: Shows clearly the new MB design patterns, which I like a lot more than the current BMW / AUDI line up.

While the pictures don't show the real thing, the rear is certainly apart from the 6er, as seen recently.  Overall MB has to be aware of not to be too playful in it's design language but also to attract new customers. The new S-Class & coupe are therefrom the perfect steps in the right direction.

You should rather ask about the Panamera "designers" Smiley

    Re: S-Class Coupe Concept

the overall shape and outline of the CL concept is stunning .. elegant, flowing and sensuous. I love it.

it's good to see Mercedes toning down the over decoration with lines, strakes and other unnecessary adornment of recent cars.

this new CL will be one of the best CLs ever, and one of the great looking coupes of its time.

in comparison, the BMW 6 series is clumsy, bulky and plain ugly.

    Re: S-Class Coupe Concept

IMO the Panamera facelift is a very successful design. Very unique and individual and one that will prove long lasting.

Simplicity lasts while overornamentation and modernity are short lived. Talking of Mercedes see how the plain and classic Bruno Sacco designs have transcended time as opposed to the pretentious later ones.

While I definitely think the Panamera's design got tidied up a bit with the facelift, I don't know if I'd go far enough to call it successful. I like how the headlights look neater and more Porsche-like and the enlarged air intakes are nicely done, but having the position lights/indicator units floating in the middle of the bumper looks hideous. Integrating those units at the top of the air intake would've looked far better.

There's also something about the Panamera's rear that I'm not fully on board with. I like the integration of the tailgate with the bumper and having the license plate at the bottom a la Porsche's sports cars, but something just isn't sitting well. Probably the flatter window, maybe all the black plastic in the lower diffuser, possibly that fat lip in the lower rear bumper below the tailgate opening... I'm leaning towards liking the pre-facelift model more but wish Porsche integrated some of the facelift elements into that model.

Oh well. I hope Porsche steps it up with the forthcoming Panamera.

Totally agree. Although I have to admit, this one looks, apart from the front, not bad at all. I even kinda like the side profile of the car. Ouch... That did hurt to say that about a merc Smiley. Normally I don't like any merc or AMG, but when they do something right, I'm fair enough to admit that too.

Regarding the Panamera, when I first saw pictures of the 1st gen, I thought there was something wrong with my eyes. What an ugly car. The strange thing is, that when I first saw the car in person,  it wasn't as ugly as it looked on pictures nd whit the years passing, I started to like the design. Lots of Porsche designs have to grow on you I guess. the facelift looks pretty good IMO.

On the other hand, the MB cars from the past 15 years or so, never grew on me. I have no clue why, but there is just not one MB design that I really like or have started to like over time. It's probably just a design direction that doesn't suit my taste. I'm more into the clean design from Audi (some call it boring).

Maybe this S-Coupe design direction can convince me more to like MB cars...Smiley (They just have to something about that front Smiley)

    Re: S-Class Coupe Concept

the Panamera's main problem for me is the rear bumper is much too high vertically, making the car massively bottom heavy and saggy

having said that, the facelift has improved the original, which is not always true of facelifts generally

That would be a great looking car for my 71 year old father! Love it!

The design is way too elegant, curvy and just too futuristic (in a negative way). In a single word: Overstyled.

The Panamera looks much better live than on photos and I still have a hard time to find the facelift a huge improvement (actually the contrary is the case but maybe this is just me...). I have high hopes for the next generation though. Smiley

I completely disagree with it being overstyled. If you place it next to the new Vanquish, the 458 Speciale, the Aventador, even the 991 Turbo/S this car would showcase great restraint (in a very positive way).

And I agree - I think the car has so many nice details - shark front - sleek rear - etc. but the sum of it just doesn't fit together. It looks like every detail was designed by a separate group of people and there was no one taking car on the overall line. For me its a Frankenstein design patchwork!
