not worth the bucks in a sports car, Bose is good enough
Agree totally. I'd much rather listen to the engine and PSE. If you'd rather listen to a good HiFi than that wonderful flat six then Lexus fit a rather nice Mark Levinson system and you wouldn't be distracted by any engine sound....

It's actually the first box I selected.... Before I selected PSE. I have the Bose system in my Boxster and I'm not impressed. I love the exhaust note with PSE switched on, but I never use it all the time. When I drive in the city or when I'm just in easy-cruise-mode, I always switch it off.
Being a sportscar doesn't mean that you can't drive easy and enjoy some nice sound from a decent audio system, which the Bose clearly isn't. The 991 may be not as quiet as a luxury sedan, but it's quiet enough to justify a Burmester.
The base sound system is only good enough to listen to the news....

The Lexus thing was decided by Porsche long ago when they gave up sports car strippers [like my 1972 S] and competed. When I want a bad stereo and lots of noise, I drive the scud:) I cant even turn the radio on in the scud.
in 1990, I wrote a letter to the President of Porsche [believe it was the yank Schultz] complaining that my 1990 c2 s cab was too much like a Mercedes!! I went on strike and bought a 600SL. Now that car was cruiser ville, and was quickly sold, although it came in handy carrying fuel for the generator after the 93 fire when we had no power for 6 days. Here is Surf in the back, Sandy between the seats and Madame just about to have her baby - must be July of 1993.
Burmeister is superb as good as my desk top satellite system, and I use it alot when I cruise down PCH and Sunset Boulevard to Rodeo Drive to go to the office a few days a week. The Bose is terrible. When we run to Wyoming we dont use it much. When we get stuck in Auckland traffic, the Burmeister will be handy.
Burmester is great as I have it on my 991, I also have Bose on my Panamera GTS and the Burmester is superior and worth it in my opinion... Especially if you love music!

I must be just a sad engineer who finds the sound of quality engineering as music - be it Porsche, a Merlin V12 in a Spitfire, or a 114 year old steam engine in a vintage pleasure steamer on a Scottish Loch last week
I must get my medication reviewed

The Bose in the 991 sounds hideous.
I tried now so many times to find the right setting but I have to say there is none. The sub is weak, the tweeters are annoying. No kick-bass at all. Only the mids are nice! by the way - the 997 sounded a bit better. I guess with the Burmester in the house they had to make it a bit more poor to catch people paying the upgrade!
Dont order the Bose if you like to have good sound!
I agree, the Burmester sounds much better than Bose. However, in a sports car, as a weekend fun car, I just cannot see the benefit of Burmerster. If someone uses the 991 as a daily driver though, the additional cost of Burmester can be justified. Only thing I miss with Bose (I remember from the 991 Carrera S loaner I had) is a better base and more "dominance" of the whole sound. Bose sounds a little bit like a can, the music doesn't sound as "full" and "dominant" as with Burmester. It is difficult to explain but for a daily driver, I would definitely take Burmester.
Had Burmester on the Panamera Turbo S and enjoyed it a lot but I have Bose on the Cayenne and it really doesn't bother me (daily driver) because most of the time, I listen to the engine/exhaust sound and not to music.
Let's see how this "strategy" pans out with the 991 Turbo S since the sound is surely less spectacular than the Cayenne GTS sound. Yes, I did not order Burmester for the Turbo S, I had to keep a certain cost limit.

Agree RC - the Burmester is just too expensive for what it adds on. The problem is that the Bose really doesnt have the sound it used to have in the 997 or in the Cayenne/Panamera. I guess its kind of purpose they want to have it sound like a can.
I have the Bose and being honest - I rather switch it off as it boaters me. But then there is the exhaust which still is not sounding like it should either. I might should try using headphones when driving that car
I had Bose in my 997 & 991 - I perceive it to be better in 991, not worse? I don't tend to use the surround feature but it's sufficient for what I use it for (mainly radio) but I don't have DAB in my car (wasn't available at the time) so maybe this makes a difference?

Your exhaust sound complaint still bothers me, very strange. Have you talked to your dealer?

Have been 5 times at the dealer... the latest update of the PDK indeed includes adjustments of the Exhaust flaps.
I already had a guy from Porsche Stuttgart at my local dealer - he is from the technical consult group. He said there might be a further update. Currently he is checking internally whats going on.... I will keep you posted! If nothing changes I will rip that exhaust out and install an aftermarket solution (and I hate aftermarket!!!).
