    GT3 Specs

Can anybody please help with the following question?

My car, 991 GT3 goes on production very soon and my dealer told me to finalize my choice. I made some changes to it. Does anybody know if this delays the production process/delivery date? Ofcourse I am really enthusiastic and don't want this process delayed. Smiley

    Thanks a lot.

    Best Regards,

    H

I can tell you only this (but your dealer knows best, so ask HIM!!!): I ordered my 991 Turbo S in May 2013.

By early July, my dealer told me that I cannot change options anymore because it would delay the car.

My car is scheduled for exiting production on Sept. 26th.

If the dealer changes ONE SINGLE option, the car will be put at the END of the ordering chain, meaning that it could substantially delay the car, not only a little bit.

Your dealer knows BEST, he gets the data from the ordering system, so he should be able to tell you when your car will exit production. Actually the exact day. Smiley

The short but unhelpful answer is: It depends.

There is a cutoff date beyond which you cannot change anything without causing your car to be bumped out of place in the line, as explained by RC.
I assume that this date had not yet passed for your car, so changes could be made without a delivery date "penalty" if the additional items you specify are ones which are already freely available in current production.
If, on the other hand, you ordered some additional item which is not yet available, is currently in short supply because its production is still being ramped up, or is always on extended delivery (paint colour to order, special leather items, for example) then the change will result in a delay.
Your dealer should be able have this confirmed before a change is finalised.

    Re: GT3 Specs

Thank you RC. Smiley Hopefully it will be an exception this time. Especially since I really found some extras I would really enjoy in the time I'll drive the car. Let's pray for the best.

For now I've followed your advice and asked my dealer for the delivery date before I will allow him to change the order.

    Best Regards,

    Hans

    Re: GT3 Specs

Thank you for your answer Fritz.

Hopefully it will be with the extra's in time. I highly doubt it because it was an order extension with full leather interior, extended leather interior dashboard and additional leather pieces like steering column with contrast stitching. Also full carbon options like centre console and illuminated door sill guards.

My dealer told me when I was placing my order it was no problem to make a slight change. I hope this will be allowed.

Unfortunately I only found out the beauty of these extra options later on since I saw a few reviews(real life footage) It's IMHO just too hard to decide with just that (low quality) Porsche configurator. Smiley

Also back then my local dealership was not properly informed yet.Smiley

I will definitely keep you updated. Thanks a lot for your help.

    Best regards,

    Hans

    Re: GT3 Specs

There are certain possibilities to change an order without delaying the car but it requires a direct contact to Porsche, which can be a little bit complicated (but worth it, if you REALLY want to have these options).  Changing the color would be however easier than choosing a certain option which may be in high (or very low) demand, so they cannot provide it in time for the planned production of your car.

Your dealer should be able to manage the whole thing, just make sure that he KNOWS that you do not want to delay the production of your car.

Regarding the Porsche configurator, I agree. Not a highlight but in my opinion better than many other companies have to offer. I am still hoping for a revamp at some point, maybe with photos of REAL cars instead of the current renderings. Or at least I would hope that Porsche offers MANY MANY high res photos of real cars and options, so we can download them and get an idea of certain combos and options. It shouldn't be difficult for them, they could take photos of cars in production or better said...when they exit production. So many possibilities here...

    Re: GT3 Specs

They could start by showing the exact pieces that are change in a specific package. How hard is that...

    Re: GT3 Specs

    Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately the car has been delayed. Now they are telling me it will be an october delivery. (Hope this is true)

To add the extra options I wanted it would have been pushed in the back of the line. My dealer said it would actually take a few more months if I chose those options. I decided to go for the current setup. To me a few more months is not worth some carbon finish details. But then again: I have not seen the brushed aluminum finish of the 991 GT3 but in my opinion it is a bit too much BMW. Smiley

About those carbon finish; Been seeing the new 991 Turbo S videos and I really love those carbon strips. Is there a possibility to order this aftermarket? Or maybe from Porsche but to install it later?

    Re: GT3 Specs

There are various after market solutions that look way better than the Porsche trims IMO. (And also cheaper).  I'm going that way instead of the factory installed carbon trim.

Here's an example (sorry for linking to another forum, nothing better than Rennteam though ;) haha)

As far as I know, the carbon can be retrofitted through Tequipment later on. Not cheap (aprox. same cost as from factory but PLUS install) but possible.

Thanks a lot for your reply Suzy,

I am no carbon specialist but I think it looks like a quite big weave. Any thoughts on why this is? Better quality or just different size?

Carefully read the assoicated posts from OCarbon.  I don't think his customer is very happy and I don't think this has been resolved.  I would not deal with this clown and YES the weave is VERY large.

    Matt,
Sorry to use this venue to contact you but you have not responded to my emails and your phone number is "no longer in service". I also want others on the forum to be aware of this. As you know, I sent you my deposit months ago, then I sent you the core that surrounds the gear shifter. As of yet, I have not received my finished product from you. I do not want to jump to any conclusions yet and wanted to give you the benefit of doubt before I proceed further. Please let me know if you intend to send me my parts or not. Thanks.

Wouldn't call him a clown that soon... If you read the whole thread it becomes clear that Matt is the one that didn't want the order send in parts to him. They had to wait for one part and wanted to send the bits that were ready to him. He didn't want that.  It's a bad thing that the guy didn't answer the phone, but there was apparantly a reason. It's not always the companies, it very often a rediculous annoying customer that is the problem. (I know from experience). Oh and I'm not saying that Matt is an annoying customer BTW... Just want to point out that the common Porsche buyer (incl. myself) are often very oicky people. If I were my own salesperson, I would have probably killed me already Smiley

Calling someone a clown without having experience with that person or his company is very easy. Would be the same if I would call you a clown, without knowing you.

On the other hand, you're right that one always has to be careful with ordering such things. I gave this one as an example, because of the pictures in the thread. There are lots of other companies that do the same thing.

Regarding the weave... It is indeed larger (2x2 instead of 1x1) bit that is what makes it look hood IMO. The standard Porsche CF trim looks cheap and fake. (just my opinion of course).

Thank you. I saw that too. So I am not really eager to order with that company.

Found an alternative called MAcarbon.  Does anyone know this company and/or ordered their parts? I especially like their door sill sets. Here is the link:  http://www.macarbon.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=255&Itemid=283&lang=en

I actually started to look at the carbon parts because I saw it in a friend's car. (The illuminated door sill)

That made me want the carbon interior. It really made the car feel more special compared with the standard trim IMHO. This plastic finish in the doors is a bit too much BMW IMHO. Smiley

For the rest of the interior; dashboard, side panels etc I don't know. I have not seen it in the flesh yet. I just think it is a strange combination to only order the door sills and have the brushed aluminum in the rest of the interior. What do you guys think?

For now I think I'll just do some research for the moment the car arrives. If I don't like the brushed aluminum then I can order the carbon finish after all. Smiley AND I'll try to check out a car which has the full carbon interior to see how it looks. I also have NOT seen the brushed aluminum in the flesh. But I think it is not available on other carrera models so I don't know if I can see it already.

Thanks for your input. To be honest I don't really agree with your thoughts on the big weaves. To me it is too big but that's just a matter of personal preference.

On the matter of the company I think ( I know Smiley ) indeed Porsche clients are picky but I would not order with that company because of their lack of communication. Especially if I am supposed to put a downpayment they have to be decent and communicate professionally. This seems, at least to me, not to be the case. So I would not ever order with that company. Ofcourse this is the disadvantage nowadays with online shops. That's why people who sell have to be very good in their communication otherwise it starts to look like a fraud very quickly.

    Re: GT3 Specs

I wouldn't mix it - if it was my car i'd be happy with aluminium.and regular plastic sills and it would be free.Only downside of alu trims i saw is if its around gear lever/ handbrake it gets easily scratched from mobile phone, keys and other stuff left there.Fake alu painted plastic does look horrible though

    Re: GT3 Specs

I just really dislike the super glossy finish on all of this carbon fiber. Can they do it in matte to make it look it's real, structural and there for something other than aestetics?

I put a once piece carbon dash in an old 911 race car and while it saved a tone of weight and looked wonderful when you weren't in the car, the glare was blinding and we ended up covering the majority of it which was a shame.

Unless of course you go for the carbon backed bucket seats - in which case it ties everything together quite nicely, otherwise I agree it would look odd.
