I agree. With the top up, it reminds me of the Humpback of Notre Dame every time I see one. It's odd, because the 996 can did not look that way. I think it's because they changed the rear spoiler, which goes higher than the one from the 996 cab or the 997 coupe now. This is more efficient, but doesn't look as good IMHO.
It does look gorgeous with the top down, though.

    To mish:
Your 997 must either have standard seats, or electric seats. What you are looking for is only available with sport seats.
The back of the sport seats (manual or adaptative) is indeed covered with dark grey plastic. As an option, you can have them painted in exterior colour, or covered with leather.

    Alex, Beautiful car!

Tell me, what are those silver plastic things you have attached to the back of your seats? I have seen them on a few cabs and love the look of them. Can they be retrofitted? For some reason, I was not offered them on my options list - and therefore have plain leather on the back of mine.

I think you're referring to the coat hooks on the back of the seats. Standard as far as I'm aware, at least they are on sports/adaptive seats.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

    Here's a roofline comp FWIW.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

Nice pics to show the differences. I personally will go for a coupe only even though i live in sunny california!

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

The coupe looks so much better than the cab. You just feel that there is something wrong in the cab.

I get this feeling with almost any cab apart from the Merc SL (which looks fantastic with a steel roof).

Dunno, but its very subjective. I don't think the 911 was ever meant to be a convertible.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

Wow! Those pics sure show how ugly the cab is... especially that color combo. What is it? Hunchback? Maybe I can find some sucker to offload mine on then go buy a real 911. You know... the way they were meant to be.

I am thinking about changing my current 06 997 to a used 06 997 cab. The reason why i am planning on getting a used cab is because I am tired of the depreciation of porsche. I lose 10k on my car already and i have only 5000 mls on my car. Is it better to go with a used 997 cab instead of the new, does it retain its value better if i buy it used? Also, What is the difference between a cab and a coupe aside from acceleration and the fact that the top opens up? Will the cap sound a lot more noisy at high speed then a cab? Is it hard to maintain the softop? Lastly, If someone can please post me some picture of a triple black 997 cab, that would be very helpful as well for me to make my decision. Thank you!

Cars depreciate, cab, coupe, new, used, they all depreciate. True the first year they loose a bit more, but unless you flip your cars every 2 years, it is not that important.

The only way to reduce depreciation is to buy a much cheaper car.

That goes for almost every car that was not designed as cab in the first place, IMO.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

    Stick with the coupe!!!!

I totally agreed, maybe i should just wait for the new sl that is coming out in a year or two.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

As one who traded in my 997 coupe for a 997 cab, if you want a convertible you will absolutely love this one. I find mine to be just as quiet as my coupe was. The softtop is a thick fabric and is not hard to maintain - basically you don't do anything to it. I bought my coupe new and I bought my cab new, both off the same showroom floor. Let us know what you decide.

John, it's definitely NOT the coat hooks ...it's a whole plastic sheet which sits on the back of the seat!!

    The groom,

Yes indeed, I have electric seats - how come I was not offered this plastic coating painted the same color as the body?

That drives me mad! What's the point of that silly option?

Is it possible to retrofit? Any clues!???

If you want a 3-ton boat with a high center of gravity, then yes, wait.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

You'd have to retrofit an entire sport (or adaptative sport) seat for this. I don't know if this is possible.

On the left, a picture of a standard/electric seat. The back is in leatherette or in leather. Unfortunately, you cannot replace the back with a plastic cover.
On the right, a picture of a sport/adaptative seat. The back is in that dark gray plastic that is also used for the PCM. Or you might have it painted or covered with leather.

This is a need combo, do you have more picture? I was actually thinking about black or white. Can anyone post some pictures of a 997 white cab with clear side marker? Thanks

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

LOL!!!! Yeah, the cab looks horrible- what was I thinking - I need to change my order ASAP! The coupe is the only decent looking 997.

    rhino,

Did you order the grey top?

White is a beauty specially with the blue top. I had one previously and miss it alot.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

A well equiped new cab will cost you ~$115K out the door. What is $10K when speding this much on a car. I would spend the extra $10K and get a new one. The hell with saving $10K. You never know what this used car has been through. It could be repainted and wont show on carfax as some people dont go through insurance as they know it will show on carfax. Becareful.

I know what you mean, I am still deciding if I should get used or new. The depreciation value on these car are real bad.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

I think this way, FWIW. If you live in LA or somewhere where there's good convertible weather all the time I might compromise looks for FUNctionality and get a Cab.

If you only get to choose to use the ragtop now and then , please don't flame me but, for the Carrera, I'd hesitate to get one.

Besides looks, there's maintenance, weight, wear issues involved too.

Also, if you've always had hardtops ask yourself if you'll miss having something you've never had.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

Its spring time boys!!!! Dropping the top has never been better... and by the way the hump just makes the cars (_!_) look way wider...

    Here's a taste... enjoy!

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

Maybe another one for good measure

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

here's a nice pic of Chili's red and the rag top

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

tooner: very good looking wheels + car

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

I had a loan 997 C4 cab for a few days, I was very impressed. It had a PSE which just rocked! I always thought the humpback looked annoying but after a while I think it looked a lot more aggressive than my 997 coupe. There is nothing more fun than cruising on a nice road especially in the mountains with the top down! On the motorway we cruised between 80 - 140 mph depending on the conditions and not a problem - this will get you - my wife is sure that it is quieter than our 997. She is a musician and has the best ears in the world and I trust her opinion. I really couldn't tell the difference in sound levels between coupe and cab.

The wind deflector is amazing - couldn't believe the difference it made, easy to fit - not sure if you can close the roof with the wind deflector in place.... I would be much happier if you could.

Lastly, Imust add you can hear a few more rattles and shakes than the coupe- the body is plenty stiff but scuttles do exist. My advise, spend an hour in each then decide. Do some motorway driving etc as well.

Here is a snap or two.
