I still cant understand why is it so difficult to properly assembly that front face, even if it's still a pre-production model. I mean those shut lines... mail

And it definitelly has to be seen as a whole car. Samples doesn't do justice, IMO...

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Don't think you will see John Lewis as he is not on the approved list of drivers...

You will see Daniel Eastman and perhaps Cass Whitehead.

3 hr sessions, what a waste of time

And what is that weird dimple on the front leading edge, about 20cm to the left of the license plate (as you face the car)?   Park assist sensor?

I got the impression he was signed up for some in September and was unsure about October Smiley

He said he and Cass would be the two drivers.

Since September isn't here yet, upon what do you base your opinion of it being a waste of time?

Indeed. Quite a surprise to see that misalignment... although I have to admit that I was carried away by the beautiful carbonfibre elements so had to take a second look.

As Mithras said, it is the cover for the tow hook eye. Basically every contemporary car features this solution. Your 997 as well... Smiley

The car looks grey to me. A sport car IMO should look exciting and generate passion. Grey does the opposite. The color is design not to attract attention or evoke emotion. Essential it is dull. Certainly I would not want that on a million dollar car.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

    Mike-

As far as I know John is not one of the approved drivers for the 918. Cass is and so is Daniel.

Since this is sort of a 'Roadshow" John may drive the 911 or the Panamera, but I think not the 918.

So you have got 3 cars and 3 hrs, how much time will you get in each divided by the # people at the event?

I live in So.Cal and the venue is 2 hrs away, thats 4 hrs R/T besides which I'll be in North Carolina for a car show

on the Oct 11th and can not attend.

The only explanation I can find for this misalignment is that the whole front bumper will be different on the final production model. Smiley

Those last shots are way way nicer than what we've seen before. I like this car a lot, I just don't like the way porsche marketing has taken away all of the surprise form the car.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I was able to test drive the 991 Turbo S and the 918 Spyder with Weissach package yesterday on the track in Leipzig! Short summary of my impressions of the 918 Spyder:The car looks fantastic in real life. Much better proportions than on the pictures. Everybody will like its elegant lines. The car´s handling is unbelievable on track - its on another planet vs. the 991 Turbo. Weight is a non-issuse in the car! Just forget about the fact that the car weighs 1600 kg. You will never ever think about it. It feels like 1200 kg, maybe less. Honestly. Both when braking and through the corners. Porsche is aiming at a maximim of 2G in the corners... Because of the sensational handling and stiffness of the car you feel very confident when driving. I could drive it all day on the Nordschleife and dare to find the limit of the car on such a challenging course. In a car with 900 hp! I am still not happy with the PDK upshifts - quite sterile and without the emotion of a 458 or FF, but I guess very efficient. Downshifts are perfect with lots of supporting engine revs. I was also a bit surprised that the engine is not more "revy" than it is. Not at all like the Carrera GT. Neither is the sound although it has become quite nice and actually very loud on the final cars. The car handles so well that I would have liked a few hundred more hp in it. We were told the car we were driving was limited to some 750 hp so infact that is probably what we will get in the final version - 200 additional hp! What an animal it will be! Probably very hard to challenge around the Nordschleife!

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Have you ordered the 918 and if not will you?

What are your impressions of the 991TTS?

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I have not ordered yet, but I am much closer to pulling the trigger after experiencing it live. I didn´t dream about it before, but now I do. I am not used to buying cars that are that expensive and I want to be absolutely sure that it is the right thing for me. This is of course very subjective, but I am increasingly of the opinion that you should be able to enjoy a car even when not going too fast. Otherwise you will only rarely be able to enjoy it (unless its a pure track car). Variables such as sound, feel when changing gears, steering feel, brake feel, percieved acceleration, even looks are what makes me tick, not a lap time, or 0-300 km/h acceleration time. That´s why I find it such a joy driving my RS -73. It ticks all the boxes above including a percieved really fast acceleration. Same goes for the RS 4.0. It just ticks alls the boxes including a just telepathic steering feel and a sound when going through the revs that is just to die for. You want to accelerate into the red over and over again. Therefore, if I am going to spend 918 Spyder money I expect the car to tick my boxes big time and also add something that my current cars don´t have. As a comparison, I also like the design of the LaFerrari and I am pretty sure that it will be a more emotional car to drive, even though I have to say the driveability of the 918 Spyder is just sensational - probably the cars most important feature. Another option I am considering is to go in the entirely different direction and buy a very nice classic car, e.g. a Ferrari 275 GTB. Decisions, decisions...          It would not be fair to comment on the 991 Turbo S, since my focus was on the 918, but briefly: It looks fantastic with the ultra wide hips, launch control start is quite brutal - you will like it, improved sound including little "gurgles" when going off the accelerator, easy to control on the track although you feel the weight of the car. I will stay with my manual 997 Turbo, which I tink is just the perfect daily drive, but the 991 Turbo S is of course objectively speeking an improvement in every single area.
