    Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

I am thinking about changing my current 06 997 to a used 06 997 cab. The reason why i am planning on getting a used cab is because I am tired of the depreciation of porsche. I lose 10k on my car already and i have only 5000 mls on my car. Is it better to go with a used 997 cab instead of the new, does it retain its value better if i buy it used? Also, What is the difference between a cab and a coupe aside from acceleration and the fact that the top opens up? Will the cap sound a lot more noisy at high speed then a cab? Is it hard to maintain the softop? Lastly, If someone can please post me some picture of a triple black 997 cab, that would be very helpful as well for me to make my decision. Thank you!

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

Coupe is perfect looking in profile. Cab looks kinda hunched over from the side. FWIW, I personally would not get the cab for THAT reason alone.

There are some interior features that are exclusive to the cab... can't seem to remember what they are right now.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

oh really? What is it that is different from a coupe and cab in the interior? Well, Its getting warmer everyday down here and starting to get jealous of people who have convertible.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

I think there were two or three things exclusive to the cab. nothing that would sway your decision. (post was kind of a joke) I think something to do with the vent grilles being more plush maybe. I just think the C2SC is awesome.

sorry. the manual (where I read this) and car are at Jim Ellis Collision Center getting the rear bumper cover replaced from my minor fender... uh bumper cover bender last month.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

I really want to get one but don't want to regret it later on as i do admit that the cab does not look as good as a coupe, but i have never own a convertible before and i am What you all think?

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

    JL13,

A lot would depend on your climate- is it sunny and warm or usually cold...?

The top is very well insulated- when I tested a 997 4S Cab with the top up it seemed as if I was driving a Coupe.

O.K. 993? you're right - coupe wins hands down but 997? It's a tie... best looking cab on the planet. period.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

Well, aside from humidity, i think atlanta has very nice weather. It rain very little during the summer time and I really want to hear the sound of my baby more carefully, but I just don't know if it would be harder to take care of, especially the softop.

Hotlanta! One hr from me and my top is down allot.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

All the Cab owners from the South seem very happy with their babies! You know you want it!

Sorry but I disagree 100%. I for one love the Cab and think it looks the best. But everyone has their opinion. Dropping the top on a 997 is heavenly.

As far as losing money getting a used 997 would be the way to go. You let someone else lose all the money in year 1 or 2. I had to decide between a 997 C2S and a 997 C2 Cab and went with the Cab. For me it was the best decision hands down. Having the top down on a 997 is the best.

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

Guys, Should i just make a phone call to my salesman tomorrow and ask them if they have a cab sitting around?

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

Also, i have tubi exhaust on my car and i would love to be able to hear the exhaust more clearly! and the only way is to take away the roof

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

JL, getting a cab should NOT be a 'should I' or 'shouldn't I' question. You either feel it inside or you don't! Don't agonize on such a personal question.

All I can say is, there is no driving experience on earth which matches dropping your top, blasting your favorite tune and racing through the twists with the wind flowing through your hair on a sparkling, sunny day. It's something a coupe owner can never understand until experiencing it.

I say, take a test drive in a cab, drive it like you stole it - and then make a decision!

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

I have the cab (and have owned two prior 911 cabs) and I love it. It's really the perfect every day sportscar for sunny So. Cal. (although it's raining today). The 997 top is so good, it's almost like having the coupe from inside the car. And with the top down you can totally hear the 997S engine in a way you'll never hear it in the coupe. I've never had a problem with water leakage from the 997S (admittedly it's new) or the 996 (which I had for four years). The 993 was another story . . .

As far as I know, the only interior option you get with the cab that you don't get with the coupe is the white (silver) instrument dials, which I think are great looking.

    I say go for it!

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

Depreciation differences between a Coupe and a Cab, I'm not so sure of. Experience differences, now that's a different story!

Having a 997 Cab you seriously wouldn't know you were in anything other than a Coupe when you're driving along with the hood up. I totally couldn't get over it when I first took one out.

So forget about the normal soft-top practical drawbacks, because there just aren't any as far as I have seen in the 997. The roof is nice and easy to maintain too - I just use a jet-washer with shampoo/wax mixer over the hood and keeps it immaculate, although I'm sure black definitely helps though.

The interior is pretty much the same as the Coupe in terms of the options I have, so no really differences there.

The only real difference in options is that you can't have the -20mm suspension in the Cab. If you buy a Cab though I don't think you will really need it as in all likelihood you won't be tracking it as much as you would a Coupe. The 'Sports' button does me fine when I want to have a bit of fun!

When you put the roof down in a Cab it really does turn driving into a whole different experience. SO much fun zooming around! I put the wind-deflector up for the first time this weekend. It really cocoons you in well, and hides you from everything but the glorious sunshine!! I live in the UK, so I don't think weather is really a factor unless it doesn't stop raining for more than 10 days of your year...even then I think it would probably be worth it

This is my first Cab, and I wasn't intending to get a Cab when I walked in the OPC dealership, but boy do I not regret my decision!! So don't do it for financial reasons, take a test drive and do it because of the way it makes you feel...

A few reposted 'triple-black' pics (I know, I need to take some more!):

I'd agree that weather is not an issue. I used to have an Audi TT convertible years ago and always had the hood down whatever the weather (within reason).

Quick question for cab owners - can you leave the wind deflector in place all the time? Also, can you put the hood up when you are driving up to say 30mph?

Yes you can leave the wind-deflector in place all the time, it simply folds down. Although without the detachable wind-deflector and just the side windows up you are pretty sheltered anyway from the wind. The wind-deflector just adds an extra level to that.

You can indeed put the roof up and down at anything below 30mph. I always try to keep the car below 20mph though as I don't want a big gust of wind putting unnecessary strain on the roof whilst it's half up/down.

I can only agree with the above. Only a circuit visit on very regular base can provide the coupe with a plus. Otherwise, the 997S cab is as tough as a former 996 coupe was...So that can't be the problem.
    I testdrove the AM V8 and the corvette C6, they are both wonderful cars, but the thrill a p can provide you is better... really better;
When you love your coupe, you'll even appreciate the cab more..better sound, less sterile

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

    Alex, Beautiful car!

Tell me, what are those silver plastic things you have attached to the back of your seats? I have seen them on a few cabs and love the look of them. Can they be retrofitted? For some reason, I was not offered them on my options list - and therefore have plain leather on the back of mine.

Thanks Mish, I'm unsure about the back of the seats though, I thought mine were standard. They are just grey/silver plastic backs. Isn't leather the option?! Perhaps it was changed as standard for the MY06 Models - mine's an MY05. Or perhaps it's that I have Sports Adaptive Seats?!

Re: Should I switch my 997 to 997cab....

My opinion a 911 = coupe (cab v. nice though)
