Designwise It is a wilder version of the Italia, as expected from the track version of the mid-engined Ferrari.
Why all this surprise?
Like the transition of the Carrera into the GT3. Wings and spoilers, vents etc.
Provided that everything serves a performance function and nothing is superfluous, it is the right approach IMO.

Once again, looks as if I am in the minority here. I definitely like this car, though the name is weak. Aerodynamics seem to play a larger and larger role in automobile design, in part, due to greater emission and fuel economy standards worldwide. Active aerodynamics are no longer the domain of the super car and have transitioned to much lower priced cars, as a consequence, the premium brands have resorted to apply higher levels of aerodynamic efficiency.
I can't wait to drive this car on the track!

+1. I am in the camp that thinks the 458 is just a touch too hyper-sleek in its detailing, and this adds a touch of visible functionally based aero and toughness, without losing the overall lines of the 458 which are successful. Anyway I don't believe many buy these for their styling, need to see whether the driving is as distinct from the base model as the Scud was from its base 430.

The name might sound funny, but in the sixties there was a Pininfarina designed 365 Speciale and I guess in Ferrari`s history there could be few more. While we might not find this name "special" one hand , on the other it does belong to Ferrari heritage.

Nearer my price bracket, sadly!
Sorry for the OT: That name originates from the thirties when Skoda was building (the Superb among others) which were very special automobiles (look at the Skoda from the thirties and their contemporaries).

These two are from Fchat. Red with green stripe instead of blue, reminiscent of the Italian flag and grey with gunmetal wheels.
I think the grey one looks alright, as the colour hides the lines which is not exactly a compliment for the new design elements...
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.

In black is looking better for the reasons you mention.

I am aware of the origin of the name.

The Italian flag color schemed stripe was played out on the 360 CS ...Ferrari has been there and done that and no design or marketing exec of worth in the company would dare repeat it this soon....they've gotta justify their pay grades !
I like the new blue/ white stripe ...it works with red, white, yellow cars, but is much more complementary to the popular greys, silvers , dark blues and blacks preferred by todays buyers, than green / white one.
IMO, both are nicer, graphically, than the monochromatic " chopsticks " ones on the Scuderia.
xander71:
but most important than the look, is it fast ?? faster than McLaren?? how does the new system work like ? Handling?? lap times??? so courious
Faster than the 12C? When the Speciale will be delivered to the first customers, the McLaren will have 650 hp.

How could the Speciale be faster? With 605hp Also, let's keep in mind the not so good lap times of the 458 base product...

Agreed. But the new stripe is just a bit too wide IMO.
But at least it is wide with equal proportioned colors as in the classic pics just above, vs wide white with thin green and red down the middle as on the 360 CS.
btw, a NART spyder just sold at auction for nearly $28 million a few days ago at Pebble Beach.... makes me a believe a provinanced GTO would be a $50 million car at auction today. A Tahoe neighbor had two of them at one point recently !

Both the Stradale and Scuderia had more bark than bite when looking at their performance. Their Ring times were nothing special. I suspect this car will be no different. They GT3 may have a better Ring time.
As always, the Speciale will be stupid expensive.

And prices will fall like a stone after a couple of months, just as in case of the Scuderia.

Ring times fixation is absurd. Look at what the 458 achieved at other tracks. It is a 4 year old car that outruns a 997 GT3 RS and is close to a 2013 MP4 12C. The Speciale, with its superior power to weight ratio and trick aero has to be quicker than the upgraded Macca around a proper circuit.

FERRARI RULES!!!
I like the speciale edition more then the standard 458 which I find too ' calm and feminine ' . The back of the speciale is not great, but maybe in real it will be better .
The specs are very interesting, but as, said, we have to see how that translates in real.

well the 458 has approx 120hp more - and still is slower in official NBR numbers .... - no offence but absurd is that Ferrari seems to prepare all cars for specific tracks...- I like the 458 but u cannot compare to a "old" 997....
