Very nice color, and I like the combination with the carbon fiber...that car is a keeper

If you mean additional external rear skirt (Weisach package) - then I totaly agree, it looks ugly Smiley

Yes, they should have made them de-mountable, as per the need....

The only thing that looks good are the CF rear mirrors, since they don't look as massive as the standard painted ones. Perhpas also the rear wing, but the additional rear skirt is just horrible...

It doesn't. The mesh is screwed down.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

It would have been better if the functions of the performance add-on parts were incorporated into the original design.

From Porsche's (marketing) point of view that would not be a good idea Smiley They wouldn't have the oppertunity to ask a lot of money for an upgrading package. Smiley

BTW... i agree with most that those CF add-ons on the rear look rediculous.

I would understand if this car is in the 911 price range. But for a million dollar car, how would you feel about paying for extra if you were buying one?  Chump change? indecision

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I thought a lot about whether to like this car or not, as a Porsche friend.

IMO it is the wrong car at the wrong time. Inevitably, it will be compared to the Ferrari and the P1 and it will look inadequate in terms of weight and performance. Moreove, people who can afford to pay this amount of money want maximum performance rather than fuel saving technology. The "save the environment" tricks are more suited to the SUVs and the limousines in the Porsche range.

This car is the proverbial " answer to a question nobody asked".

The Porsche investment money would have  been better spent on a 458 and 12C rival or a front-mid engined 2+2 coupe  which are the real gaps in the model range..

    Be that as it may,
I think that the LaFerrari and the P1 are cars which are a repetition of something that has been done before, without any fantasy about what to achieve: "just" another hypercar.
The 918 on the other hand is a car that seeks to explore boundaries, new technologies, new ways of thinking.
In a way, I think that will differ it from it's rivals.

Yes, I agree that there may not be that many potential customers who bother about fuel efficiency in a hypercar, so in that way, it is an answer to a question never asked. On the other hand, I admire Porsche for daring to steer in this direction, and it might create a question... I mean, at the start the iPhone was also a answer to a question noone asked, wasn't it?

I agree with you. I don't think that "save the environment" mentallity is on its place in a car like that. No need to drive fully electric in a "hypercar" IMO. It's great that these hybrid systems add some power and low end torque, but why the capabillity to drive electric. When you floor that damn thing with its full potential, NO ONE is gonna think "f**k I'm hurting the environment! Let's back off!"....

That said... I really, really like the car designwise (minus weissach package). If they just had put only that magnificent V8 in it and no batteries and electric motors..... Save weight instead of fuel!

Maybe I'm just not used to that hybrid "thing" yet.... I'm a petrolhead... Not an electronhead :)

Porsche really could use a proper successor to the 928 IMO. A luxurious GT 4-seater (Panamera coupé). 911 is trying to go that way, but will never be a real GT.

I hope it will not be just a shorter 2 door Panamera, but something striking with a front-mid engined configuration likenthe F12.

The P1 is just an evolution of the 12C and Ferrari raided their parts bin to put together the LaFerrari. Porsche build the 918 like they did with the 959, pushing the envelope out to as far as they dare.

I picked the 918 for the technology involved. The hybrid system to me is not for fuel economy, which I don't care, but for the extra boost it gives and I like the full electric model when I want to drive without sound.

I had only talked to one other 918 buyer, his view is along the same thinking as me. Best part he love was the full electric mode, he can drive 'discreetly' around quiet neighbourhood. He likes the Jekyll and Hyde spit personality. Gentle when needed but still has the wild side.

that panel gap between front wing and bumper is a touch prototype!

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Thank god that gap looks way better on the monterey picture.
In the movie I do see a slight misalignment of the rear raising spoiler wing: right it sits above the other pane seem, left it sits below it... Surprises me that that seems to be something they still don't have under control.

Is this the liquid silver color? If so, it really makes this car. Much richer looking befitting a million dollar car. Too bad they want an additional $65,000 for it.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

That is liquid metal. But it really looks like meteor grey too :)

100% Agreed. Save yourself the 65,000 and just have a really good carwash every time you're going out. Because thats exactly what that looks like, a very clean meteor grey car.
