    Cayman bumper on a Boxster - Better Quality Pics

    As requested, here are some better quality pics of my Cayman styled Boxster, including different angles of the same view. I will post one more time (got a new digi-camera), when the sun finally decides to break through in Germany, to show how it looks in good weather with the top down.

    Btw., my girlfriend thinks that (exact quote) "the convertible Porsche is the more beautiful Porsche car" (she talks about the comparism between my 996 TT and my 987. If only she knew that the two cars aren't comparable at all... ahhhh... girls.

    You could also add the Cayman side vents to really change the entire look. Beautiful update!

    Hey Martin looking good!

    Next time a side shot with the top down please! I'm curious to see how the new bumper matches up with the standard side skirts from a height standpoint.

    This car is owned by a salesman at the local Porsche dealership down here. He had his vent paint-matched obviously, they come unpainted though. He listed the parts one needs to buy (you can't just swap the vent grill only) over on PPBB this week:

    I think it looks GREAT in black. I saw a black Cayman S right next to a black Boxster S at the dealer and the Cyamn bumper just looked nicer.

    I'm not sure It would work well in lighter colors, but it certainly looks nice in black. Congrats.

    BTW, I prefer the "horizontal" Boxster vanes for the intake vs. the Cayman's vertical vanes. But I prefer the body color.

    The parts are original... but I have my own "West Coast Customs" where they got the job done. The Cayman parts fit the Boxster like a glove and it's a very easy install.


    About the sidevents: Nahhh... I don't know. The Cayman sidevents make the car look shorter (due to the vertical lines). I'll stick to the horizontal lines as they come with the Boxster's original sidevents. The only mod I really missed on my Boxy was the Cayman frontbumper. I even prefer it over the 997 frontbumper.

    Guess I'm done with "mods".

    EDIT: mbr129 was faster about the "horizontal lines".

    yeah, I'm not a fan of the shark vents in general (shades of Hyundai) but for me, the thing that makes them not look right on the Boxster are the fact that the Cayman has those sideskirts and panels that swoop up to meet the vertical grill. Without that it looks a little strange, IMHO.

    well, IMO you sure can compare them from a design-oriented point of view... but personally i do prefer the turbo's looks.

    I am considering the same mod - what was the cost of the front cover, driving lights, and hardware? Also, did you consider the rear cover? is it also a "bolt on"? I would imagine the parts would include the rear cover, spoiler, and exhaust tip...

    The front parts (ALL parts, incl. lamps etc.) amount to around 1,000 Euro. Mounting and paint should be around 300 Euro... and yea, it's a bolt on job. Only exception are the plugs for the foglights. Porsche has changed them on the Cayman to keep people from changing the look of the Boxster.

    @zzboba: The weather in Germany really pulls me down atm. I hope (pray!) that it will change in April.

    I bought the plugs and wires for the Cayman foglights and connected them to the raw cables. It's pretty easy... just a little trapdoor from Porsche to make the change a little harder.

    They did the same thing on the headlamps when they facelifted the 996 in 2002. Common tactics to avoid aftermarket facelifts on P-cars. Not that it would help much.

    I think that it would look great on an SY Boxy... SY is my second favorite color on P-cars.

    Nah... don't like the Cayman's rear end. But that's (as always) personal preference.
