Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

That is great news. Even if performance and drive feel end up being the same as the Audi/VW (which I doubt since porsche will probably aim for a more sporty feel) the fact that Porsche is doing the development and engineering will justify the premium over the other competitors.

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

    RC:

I heard that Audi engineers weren't happy about that...

nothing like a bit of sibling rivalry to push standards up ..

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

Well...this "sibling rivalry" actually got Dürheimer fired... angry There are rumors that some Audi engineers actually made personal complaints about him to their bosses in the higher hierarchy because Dürheimer apparently was a bit too direct (and maybe a little bit insensitive) in his approach to change things.

I heard that Dürheimer is still in charge of the VW Motorsport activities but apparently even there, he seems to encounter resistance. As always...rumors need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

I just saw the new Macan in VAncouver, it had a police escort and was being filmed crossing a local bridge (many car commercials are filmed in Vancouver, it's Hollywood north and has great scenery). Unfortunately I missed the first pass, then when it came back I was hoping that they would keep going back and forth as I got my phone ready to take photos for the next pass, but that never came, or at least I did not want to wait.

Car was a beautiful electric blue, amazing color, it really stood out from traffic, it looked like a lower and meaner cayenne, more sporty... I liked it better... but it did have just a bit camo on it, they had stickers on the front and rear lights to make it look more like a cayenne and blue stickers on the front rear bumpers, maybe to hide some other lines but other than that, nothing, bare.....

it's going to sell well I'm sure...

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

It seems we are very much into just few weeks before the introduction...

    The familiar pattern emerges.

    http://www.worldcarfans.com/113073060835/2014-porsche-macan-spied-virtually-undisguised

And I wonder, once again, oh why both Panamera and Cayenne, and now Macan - in Turbo disguise have to look a way better than in the standard trim?!!

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

You beat me to it; I spoke too soon in the Production Estimate thread about how September might be too soon a reveal since all the mules we've seen so far were heavily camouflaged... and now this.

This little tiger looks ready to pounce; essentially a taller facelifted Panamera but I love it. Doesn't stray far from the formula [I'm wondering how Michael Mauer wanted it to look 'bold' and take the Evoque on], but why fix what isn't broken? I like how the hood mimics the Panamera Sport Turismo concept; looks like the entire thing will go up all the way to the side panels.

Scary how the white Larson renderings are hauntingly accurate - right down to the little strakes in the air intake and the headlight-embedded washers.

i like it a lot. hope it's not to heavy (not more then 1800kg plz)

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

I suppose that the one near the wall is the turbo version, but... why is its grill smaller than the standard version?! Smiley

I like very much the front led, very similar to the leds of the panamera sport turismo concept

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

The LEDs are from the ST Concept, that is clear. We didn't see anything from that concept on the new Panamera so I imagine that Porsche will put the ST Concept headlamps in the Cayenne's facelift...could be

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

I'm a bit disappointed with the looks of the Macan even though it's of course still a mule. I think the Audi SQ5 is much more appealing in many aspects and it has that excellent TDI-engine that I'm not sure will move into the Macan? At least not from start based on what I've heard...

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

    Porsche Macan: latest spy pics...

These are the most recent spy pictures of the Porsche Macan, spotted with less camouflage than on previous test models...

    (30 July 2013)

Two test cars were spotted in this latest set of photos, with the standard car testing alongside the Macan Turbo. The Turbo version has subtle styling changes from the standard Macan, including larger front air intakes and two lines of daytime running lights. Although both cars have been pictured with minimal camouflage, parts of both the front and rear light clusters are still disguised.

The car has previously been spotted testing in the Arctic Circle and at the Nürburgring. A production version is expected to be launched in October. The styling influences of the larger Cayenne are clear in the five-door Macan, the car effectively looking like a shrunken version of its bigger brother.

The Macan has a low, wide, stance and is sleek in profile, traits helped by its sharply raked windscreen and sloping roofline. The Macan is likely to measure around 4600mm long, 1890mm wide and 1650mm high, making it 210mm shorter, 50mm narrower and 40mm lower than the larger Cayenne.

Underpinning the Macan is Volkswagen Group’s next-generation MLB platform for large front- and four-wheel-drive SUVs. Audi has been heavily involved in the platform’s development, and it will also be used to underpin the next-generation Q5.

The engine range will be crowned by a new twin-turbocharged V6 with around 370bhp and 400lb ft of torque. This new engine will power the Macan Turbo, which aims to carve out a niche as a faster, more dynamic alternative to the BMW X3 and Range Rover Evoque.

At the bottom of the engine range will be two four-cylinder engines – the first time four-cylinder powerplants would have appeared in a Porsche since the 968 in 1995.

On the petrol side, there will be a 220bhp 2.0-litre unit that should still be good for 0-62mph performance of 7.5sec and a 143mph top speed. The base diesel will be a 190bhp 2.0-litre turbo unit.

Other engines in the Macan’s range are set to include a 295bhp 3.6-litre V6 in the S, and a 250bhp 3.0-litre V6 in the Diesel S. A Macan Hybrid is also planned, and Porsche is also keen to use Audi’s potent new 309bhp twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 in a Diesel Turbo model.

Looks ready for IAA broken heart The front of the Turbo looks too plastic to me... but all the rest looks kinda nice(Cayenne+Panamera ÷2 = Macan). Just like RC said - smaller Cayenne

So I guess this is the front of the Turbo version:

    IMO the non-Turbo looks better:

I like a lot the front leds, like panamera Sport Turismo concept (in the macan turbo)

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

    reginos:

The new Q5 as above looks good with some fresh individuality.  The Macan judging from above is too ordinary.

My vote goes to the Audi and a 10% cash saving in the process. Like with the Cayenne, unless someone is buying the top models (Turbo, GTS etc) there no point choosing the lower models over VW or Audi.

When has there ever been? - first class engineering concealed by boring styling - VW Golf  is just the same - less excuse with a Golf as it is purely a functional box on wheels, a top league sports car manufacturer should show more emotion and imagination  in their styling.

Very well said. Porsche is not about sensational looks but a healthy mix of looks, style and technology.

Also, since the Cayenne is hugely successful, it makes a lot of sense to make the Macan look a little bit like a smaller Cayenne. This is called clever marketing.

Very true. The Cayenne is clearly a successful formula so why should Porsche alter it?

I really like what I see so far; the Cayenne's design elements and Porsche cues have translated very nicely onto the Macan. It looks very athletic, tight and composed - definitely echoes the 'tiger' influence in the name. I only hope the performance will be up to snuff and that Porsche uses its awesome new V6 bi-turbo engine in the S/GTS/Turbo/Turbo S applications.

RC - when do you think we'll see this vehicle unveiled given its current state? Looks to be imminent.

I heard  Oct  presentation and April deliveries to customers (in Europe) starting with 6 cylinders engines while the 4 cylinders later on in the year (?). Imho Frankfurt should be reserved to the 911 . The Macan would steal the show otherwise.

Most car magazines do not mention the Macan at the IAA, so maybe... Smiley

October presentation? Where? Doesn't really make sense to me.

Let's wait and see but the IAA would be perfect for Porsche's smaller SUV.

Since the Macan appeals to a different customer group, I doubt it would steal the show from the new 911 models.

You are right that in Oct there are no auto shows. I saw a product presentation timeline chart and Macan was indicated for October presentation (it could be press embargo lift off ?) and April deliveries  for Diesel S and Turbo. As for stealing the show , my point was that Frankfurt celebrates the 50 years of the 911 and imho to have 911s + 918 + Macan  could dilute the event from the communication point of view, but that`s just an opinion.
