The GT3 requires a good and experienced driver, some buyers will be disappointed that a talented driver in his BMW M5 may give them a run for their money on the track. On the street, the GT3 stands no chance vs. the 991 Turbo S but this is a completely different story.

I'll be shocked to ever see a new M5 at the track. And if I do, I don't expect to see it do very many consecutive laps.

In TX heat on a hard braking track even with track pads an M5 will have to start his cool-down lap after completing his warm up lap. LOL.

Andreas certainly was!

He did emphasise that you need to employ 'proper' braking techniques to manage / avoid heat build up on the discs.

So, are you suggesting the new PCCB are good for track use now ?

According to my source, they are much better now for track use (largers discs, better cooling setup, improved mixture) but of course I would be careful with this claim since replacement discs are pretty expensive. PCCB is actually amazingly good for track use, always has been over the past couple of years but the discs wear off quite fast (compared to the promised longitivtiy), so it was always a pretty expensive experience to use them on the track.

I wonder if the cooling is sufficient on the other parts of the car also (besides brakes)? Things like engine, gearbox, differential, hydraulic power steering, tires, etc. That's alot of heat generated by such a heavy and fast car. 560hp is alot of BTU's.

Hm,

based on Porsche-Jeck´s impression of the new M5 Ringtaxi on the Nordschleife I would be very surprised if the BMW is such a capable track weapon.

LED's I have considered but decided against. Main reason is I rarely drive the car at night. Also, not sure they enhance the look of the car over the standard lights.

Like SoCal my PCCBs were the bomb. I always was able to brake late and hard - awesome brakes, no wear at all after 8 years of abuse (not on a track though). I WISH I had them on my Turbo, brake dust is really bad on the Turbo the way I drive.

I think RC is correct - the new PCCB brakes will last at least as well as the new DFI motor with integrated sump. They may be more track ready than the motor, lol. Perhaps if you really want to track the car often the 997RS might be a better choice. (too much?)

I've never taken issue with the LEDs compared to xenons.

The LED lights are actually a development by-product coming from 991 Turbo development, just as a fun fact for you guys. Yes, they were available in the Panamera facelift first and afterwards in the 991 Carrera series but they really come from 991 Turbo development.

I would be very surprised if that would be the case. Every VAG brand works by itself on these matters, unless there is personnel transfer from one brand to the other. Also don´t forget that, on these technology-driven products, the suppliers such as Hella and Valeo play an important role in that regard.

Indeed. But that was six years ago... Smiley

They weren´t necessarily bad but not that much superior over the Xenon headlamps to justify the cost. The challenges on the LED headlamps are partly different. They become much more appealing with the adaptive lighting functions.

Yes I believe technology has moved on a long way in Six years of CREE chip development. i have looked at threads on other manufacturers boards that supply an LED headlight on 2012+ models and there seems to be no complaints. Finally it seem the product may have come of age. It is a technology which allows far better modulation of the light output due to conditions. Even on the low dip setting both globes work together to give the right balance and pattern. Hitting highbeam I believe just intensifies the output and adjust which lamp is creating greatest illumination rather than switching on an entirely new circuit so to speak. here you can see an illiustration (new 911 TT vs TT/S with LED)...

I find it a bit disappointing, that the LED lights look so similar to the Xenon lights. LED lights should look different IMO, but that's the problem with the typical Porsche headlights, there are not many possibilities to differentiate the two technologies, when you are bound to use the same design. Quality of the PS is pretty bad but I just did this on a flash to see how it would look and I have to say I'd go for it in a heartbeat. Gives me great hopes for the 991 GTS

Actually I ordered them because of the performance (had the chance to see the performance at night on a Panamera facelift...very nice). For looks, I would have ordered the blackened Bi-Xenon lights but unfortunately they aren't available. Blackened LED lights are coming...unfortuntately not early enough for my order. Smiley

Porsche says worldwide demand for this car is beyond production capacity already. Even though it doesn’t exist yet.

Those who waited ordering one and/or were undecided, will pay a hefty price (waiting time or premium...).

I am pretty sure that once the new Turbo S hits the streets, a similar thing will happen but the GT3 is in my opinion the best bang for the buck from Porsche and now with PDK, it is accessible for a much broader customer group, which will make the GT3 one of the most desirable Porsche 911 models. I just hope that every expectation will be met because make no mistake, this is no 911 Carrera but a real beast. Keep that in mind, to have fun with this car, you need the driving skills. Don't say I haven't warned you, even if the new GT3 PSM setup is better than ever.
