    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Yes, the Targa could be the surprise car.

I just remembered that one of our sources recently said something about a February 2014 availability for the GT3 RS but this hasn't been confirmed yet. So maybe the RS could be at the IAA because Porsche needs to present this car in 2013 to start deliveries in February 2013 (if true).

All I know almost for sure is that the GT3 RS will be available at German dealers around spring 2014. This is all I got.

Should we expect to see the new GT3 RS at Frankfurt in 8 weeks time?

    I would be very surprised...

As far as I know, the 918 (final production version), the 991 GT3, the 991 Turbo/Turbo S and the 991 50th Anniversary Edition will be presented at the IAA in Frankfurt. There are also strong rumors that Porsche will show the Macan at the IAA and maybe a surprise car.

    Thanks RC :)

My guess would be Targa too as the surprise... A 960 concept would be nice but that might overshadow the 918.

So when would we see the RS? Historically it was at Frankfurt was it now? I assume Geneva in March would be too late.

EDIT: I posted at the same time as you and have seen your response thanks ;)

Those air intakes would make more sense on a GT2.... Or am I wrong?

I think people have concluded that it's a GT3 based on the central exhausts and exhaust note that sounds more naturally aspirated than past GT2's.

Okay! :) that makes a lot of sense of course :)

SuzyF are you getting a GT3?

No, not a GT3 haha. Would like to have one, but not as my daily driver. It's gonna be a C4S with all the comfy options on it ;)

maybe a GT3 as a weekend toy in the future... Who knows... ;)

first have to get some extra space to park cars if I decide to go collect them though... LOL

Just curious, Suzy how many times you're changing your avatar a day? Smiley

Hahahahaha noticed I still had the anniversary edition as my avatar.  And I wanted something else... Couldn't find a nice picture so I had ti change a couple of times ;)

Spoke w/ dealer yesterday.  I am their number 2 with deposit and they expect their first allocations end of December or early January.  Looking forward to the car, but I'm taking a break from surfing the forums (other than Rennteam) looking for nuggets of solid information.  The discussion about this car has become largely wearisome and fruitless.  Clubs are often as much about who is excluded than who is admitted.  Clearly Porsche has changed the rules of membership to the GT3 club which has proved to be a bitter pill for some to swallow, objective performance specifications notwithstanding.

No I haven't got them. I had an order for a C4S, which I changed to an Anniversary edition. After seeing the car in person, I canceld that order completely, because I wasn't comletely sure what I wanted. SmileySmiley

Now I have a new order, but it is not closed yet. At the moment I'm in Belgium for my work, so when I go back to Switzerland next week I will go sign and make the order defenitive. Smiley
Delivery will be probably around november I guess, but I think I'll ask them to move it to march 2014 because of the winter/snow and because we go on a 4-week family-visit to California around half november. Getting the car before that time would make my holiday less enjoyable ;)

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

So many of these articles have technical errors.  In this one, I noticed the mention of 350mm carbon discs all around when I believe they're 410mm front and 380 in the rear (pretty major difference).  Even the steel brakes are 380mm all around now.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

To me the visual changes for the RS dont look as appealing as in previous generations, although its very hard to say from the spy photos alone. Personally, Im not overly attracted to the even wider rear. Im sure the production spoiler will be much larger than on the spy pictures and more impressive. I really hope they make a good job of the rear fender vents or delete them altogether. The graphics and launch colour will be interesting and could make or break the look of the car for me. I hope the wheels stay at 20" no larger.

The performance however is total speculation. Im guessing 500PS, PDK only with a different cam, intake and exhaust producing 15lbft more torque with a 0-100kmph time of 3.3 seconds and a Ring time of 7.19m. Weight Im guessing will be 1400kg at the very best using some additional composits for front and rear trunk, lighter seats and less door furniture.

The question as always is will it be 30,000+ Euro better than the 991 GT3. With the 997.1 GT3/RS generation this was highly debatable and infact I think the stock GT3 was much better value. For the 997.2 Gen they tried garder with the RS. It will be interesting to see what happens next....

Generally, you cannot get more peak torque from those changes (given how well the engine already breathes).  More torque is going to require more displacement or more compression.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Grant. I dont disagree but the stock 3.8 991S puts out exactly the same torque on paper to the 991 GT3 (324lbft). My thoughts are there must be something they left on the table for the 991 GT3RS. AP has already openly stated in two interviews that the engine makes more than its quotes 475 PS so with some additional ECU mapping a tweaked inlet manifold and exhaust and a slight re-profiling of the cam Im suggesting they will find a little more PS (maybe only 15-20 in reality but of the 991 GT3 engine is understated perhaps they have some wiggle room) and another 12+ lbft torque (I agree this will be much harder to find). Back in the 964 days we were all told the 3.6 would be hard to get more power and torque out of but they managed that twice with the 993 non varioram and then the varioram version effectively lifting HP over 5 years from 250 to 282 and torque by around 18lbft peak. It may be that the 991 GT3RS has very similar peak torque (i.e. say 330lbft) but that its up to 15lbft fatter in critical parts of the curve. Im guessing they will use a cam to move the peak torque and PS as they still have some headroom between 8250 and 9000 rpm. I dont believe the will lift the max rpm.

My other theory is they will do nothing at all with the engine and gearbox like they did with the 997.1 GT3 and what we will see is some small weight reduction, some better handling through suspension and tyres. This is quite possible but probably less than 50% likely (although Porsche suprises alot these days).

I think we will 100% see PDK-S only and 4WS. Im also 99% sure we will not see a displacement increase in this generation. To keep the headline max rpm limit at 9000 will require some additional strengthening and internal lightening word with a 4.0L engine IMO...

You are not wrong, since those vents are normally used for cooling air for a turbocharged engine's intercoolers, which a naturally aspirated GT3 would not have.

I don't think the GTE LeMans winning 991s had turbos and they had air intakes in the same place. I recall reading that the purpose was to get a ram effect and more air to the intake manifold.

    a) The prototype road car already has a ram-effect air vent at the leading edge of the engine cover for combustion air and engine bay cooling.
    b) The Turbo's side vents would be way over-sized just for combustion air, unless they were just meant to be a gimmick, "more for show than go".

There is a third possibility: Maybe Weissach had some rear fenders left from a 991 Turbo/S crash test/test mule and they didn't want to put them to waste, so they used them for the GT3 RS mule until they actually start manufacturing the larger sized rear fenders without the air inlets or smaller air inlets?

A couple of years ago, shortly after the 997 Turbo presentation, I visited Werk 1 and noticed a couple of 997 Turbo mules (partially with camouflage) there in the backyard, mules which were ripped off of their parts, some were even half "done"...

    So maybe... Smiley

that is a good problem to have... But now I have to lock in my order in the next couple of weeks...

still deciding between agate grey or sapphire blue...

Someone said that the black rims would be available on week 36... Doesn't this picture show that the rims are matte black instead?? yes I prefer them matte black!!!
