Hi Chris - nice to hear from you.  I also grew up in Fairway.  SME '81!  No doubt you went to KU Med?  Everyone in my family works there.  Love your car (wonder why).  Enjoy the fun, love your wheels more than mine - what did you do with the originals (want to trade?).  If in KC look me up and we will have a drive/drink - in that order.

    Re: 2007 997 Turbo

Not the best photos I have but I wanted to add some of my "old" 997 Turbo to this thread too...

    1367932618402turbo1.jpg

The car in the front is mine, the one in the back is CF's (from Sweden) car, we met in Karlsruhe in 2007(?)...both cars were creating quite an attention because the 997 Turbo was available for a month or so only when the photo was taken. Both had PCCB, both Tiptronic, pretty seldom options at that time.

Photo taken after I washed the car (usually, the front was full of bugs...the downside of having an Autobahn just around the corner... Smiley)

Early photos...I actually had black painted rims later on.

Awesome RC!  Love the car - again I wonder why?  Wish I had PCCB again!  I sense you will join the dark side again soon, resistance is futile, there is no substitute - Any other Turbo owners want to post pics to my thread?  I would be honored!  Cheers

    Re: 2007 997 Turbo

    Smiles upon smiles!
A little update on my 07 997 Turbo.
The Turbo is running like a frigging rocket ship.  I don't play around with it, I flog it and it is a total blast.  I am going to be arrested!
Admittedly I was eager for more power after about 48 hours but it is plenty fast for the streets.  On the highway I could do with a little more, why not?
I have covered around 4500 miles in a little over 2 months and will be driving to Florida over 4th of July weekend adding another 2500 miles or so. (what is mileage limit on the new GT3 or Turbo S lease?)
The biggest difference is obviously the extra weight and I can see myself updating the suspension soon (although the stock suspension is not as bad as some claim, maybe someone tweaked the camber!).
My C2S was really quick in the corners with its lowered PSS9 (*and PCCB) so I can't see why not to do that.
Mechanically the car is perfect. Also does not smoke on start-up, no oil drops and have not used a drop since I got it.  I drive it daily, rain or shine.  In fact the car is amazing in the rain - launching from a dead start in the wet freaks out passengers in that there is no drama and amazing traction with the four wheel drive and engine management.  Love going fast in the rain, even heavy rain.  It really shines in bad weather, I would smoke a Gt3 in the rain.
The brakes have about 70% remaining, it is current on all major service and the new clutch will last me the life of the car.  A big plus is the short shifter, the LSD, and the lighter clutch.  Shifting the car is a pure joy, even more so now that it is being phased out and no longer available.  I smile when I nail the perfect shift each and every time as I think of how this is the last of the manual mezgers.  The $30K on top of my 05 977S seems like a good deal in many ways.  I took advantage of eBay financing (Santander) at 1.9% for 6 yrs.  Crazy eh?  I did it for the extra eBay buyer protection you get but the rate is ridiculous!  Including insurance and taxes my monthly Turbo ownership cost is less than $500.  Proof you don't need to spend a lot to have use of an excellent car!  They are never good investments and doing this on the cheap is my way of taking care of my families financial future wisely.  Lucky for me all neighbors, friends and strangers like the hell out of the car and only wish me well and admire my freedom to enjoy it.  Life is good in the US! Admittedly I got $35K in trade in for my 997S on which I never owed money, but that was a nice deal as well.
The car itself keeps surprising me with all the little extras - here is a short list of options that are included in this gem -
Full Leather (my 997S had full leather but this car has it in places the 997 did not!)
    Sport Chrono $1,840 (of course),
    Adaptive sport seats $1145,
    Heated front seats $480,
    Seat back aluminum look $1495,
Storage bin with Porsche crest (leather) $290,
thicker leather steering wheel $930, .
Gear/hand brake lever in Alum look $995,
Alum look pkg switch Panel $1550,
Rear Center console Alum look $730,
    Sport Shifter $765,
Metal Door Sill model insignia $415,
3 spoke multi function steering wheel $250,
    LSD $950.
My favorite - sliver hood crest!
Plus the $7K wheels and new clutch and tires! (still looking for stock wheels!)
Nicely optioned Turbo overall - someone lost a fortune in depreciation, I doubt I will.  It looks to have been barely driven and when not fast or in an abusive manner.  It is tight like a new car.  The motor is crazy strong and feels/runs like it is just broken in and getting stronger. Classic Mezger longevity!  Dry sump rules!
The one thing I would like is that I could activate overboost without needing to hit sport mode.  I am not a fan of the change in throttle sensitivity.  It causes me to slip the clutch too much from a dead start (I am very picky about not using up the clutch).  I prefer a consistent throttle feel.  Silly actually to do this in the first place - to make you feel like the car is faster - lol.
The point is I LOVE THE CAR!  It has taken the top spot in terms of favorite Porsches I have owned.  Perfect to see me to my 50th Birthday in Sept.  - like my car twin the 901.
Thank you PORSCHE!  What an awesome machine!!!  AND of course thank you Rennteam for sharing this enthusiasm for all things Porsche with me!

    Re: 2007 997 Turbo

Nice update. Feel like going for a drive...

    Re: 2007 997 Turbo

    Vacation Update!

Florida was wet and the drive there was a thousand mile car wash!  What is it with me making long drives in Monsoon weather?  Like in F1 it seperates the men from the boys.  The Turbo handled the rain w/o incident when others came to a near standstill on the highway.  We were 12 miles from Panama Beach when the road we were on washed out and was closed.  Nothing like a 60 mile detour when you are 12 miles from your goal!  This was followed by four days of rain, high winds and, at best, clouds.  Glad I paid extra for Ocean front, lol.  In short we loved it and made the best of it by drinking beers on the beach in pouring rain or in the Hotel Hot tub with the other POSITIVE people.  We would have just been sunburned right?  Come checkout day the sun came out so I did the right thing - stayed one more day to soak up the sun.  We have the Turbo to make up time during such occasions.  Left Florida at 7AM Monday and arrived 1100 miles later in KC around 10PM - one hour of driving in the dark, not bad.  It was a very relaxed pace, some heavy traffic at times and a bit of construction slow down outside Nashville (okay so we stopped on the highway for almost 30 minutes crawling about two miles in the process.  Did I miss having an automatic? - not on your life.

Total miles in the last two and half months - 6200 miles!  (what is the anual mileage limit on a new 991 Turbo lease?)

During the trip we had a few great encounters with what I will call ticket catchers (okay - bitches) - cars with bright colors, hogging the left lane and traveling at VERY brisk pace.  Red Corvette heading there led us at about 120mph for almost two hours to Nashville.  He must have been annoyed at how he could not shake me 'cause he really tried hard.  Honorable mention goes to the yellow hot rod GT Mustang who reached around 140mph in Alabama just before he was stopped by a team of pissed off troopers.  The Honda S2000 driven by an SCCA racer was the best - excellent lane control, perfect team work (moving through traffic with us making openings for each other when people blocked the left lane) - the wave goodbye after many miles of partnership is always appreciated - call it a highway bro-mance.

MPG for the entire trip was right at 25MPG - I love this car.

Now for the bad news - RC was right these used cars can have expensive problems - left rear brake light bulb set me back $3.50 for a pair at the autoparts store.  I was very disappointed to see the Porsche Owners manual MISS LABLED which bulb in the assembly is the Brake light buld (they direct you to the Reverse light instead).  It is a two minute job once you ignore the manual and put it into the logical place.  Hint - there is a bright and dim filament so you have to orient the buld the correct way.  If it is dimmer than the other side remove the bulb, turn 180 degrees and plug back in.  Who would go to a dealer and pay $50 to change a light bulb? Perhaps this explains the manual?

Did I mention the oil level has not dropped at all in 6200 miles?  Excellent car, fun times - many more to come!  Life is good - great to be back in KC!Smiley

Well, I told you so, didn't I? Smiley

Do I sense some irony in your post? Naah, impossible. Smiley
