This is fricken unbelievable. Puerto Rico get their allocations while US buyers sit  and wait and wait. What a turnoff.

That said, ag23 congratulations! PCCB's are overpriced and a waste of money. Agate grey is used by the US army for its vehicles.

Congratulations.  Both colors are excellent choices.  I've always been a fan of variations of the French racing colors, blue exterior with a red interior, so the red stitching is about as close as it gets.   Enjoy the ride.

Dont agree.  PCCBs are an excellent choice for a street car that is occasionally tracked.  Heavy track use = stick with iron rotors due to cost and pad choices.

I've had two 911s with PCCBs and they are excellent.  Car feels a bit more lively and brake feel and modulation were both off the charts.  Initial bite was fantastic.

I'm not getting them this time, though, as I may be on track alot and don't want to have to convert to iron rotors.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

The PCCB's are almost $10,000. Braking on them based on my experience isn't that much better than regular brakes. Porsche regular brakes are fantastic. However, the advantage of PCCB's is lack of brake dust and claimed durability. Worth $10,000? Not as far as I am concerned.

On the allocation issue, I understand that ultimately we all will get our car probably within the timeframe Porsche has tentatively scheduled. I get that. What I don't get is why the delay in communicating to the US dealers. Based on a reported communication from PCNA US allocations have been completed. So why not communicate them to the dealers?

Don't forget better handling, ride quality, and acceleration due to the reduction in unsprung and rotating mass.

I thought that didn't apply on the 991 GT3 as the PCCBs were larger (and heavier) than the Steel alternatives?

Both PCCBs and standard brakes are the same as on 991 turbo. Difference in weight is almost none because of the brakes size.

Interesting - I know they are both larger diameter and thicker than before, but didn't know the weight advantage was nullified.  I wonder if they have much better thermal limits at the track now (with so much more carbon material).

100%  go for the PCCBs, even for occasional track use.  Awesome brakes and no brake dust.  Better handling and more responsiveness.  A must have for a serious GT3. My 997S had them - never changed pads in eight years - would have lasted the life of the car.  Miss them like crazy on the Turbo.

Grant, I honestly did not notice the difference. If I was to drive a car with or without PCCB's the only way I could tell which car had PCCB's is the initial bit of the brakes. As far as driving enhancement, I could not tell.

I wonder why Audi (same parent as Porsche) has decided to offer Manual on its raciest model ever now (never was available before on the GT):

    http://www.autoblog.com/2013/06/17/2014-audi-r8-gt-zooming-toward-le-mans-reveal/

Last of the gated manuals and hydraulic steering from VW?

Now Autoblog is reporting (the same day that it said next GT version of R8 would have Manual) that the NEXT generation R8 and Gallardo (and maybe 960 by extension) will also have Manual option.

Hmm, first I heard of manual making it to next gen.  Autoblog is either making
some big news today or getting its facts wrong...

    http://www.autoblog.com/2013/06/17/lamborghini-to-show-gallardo-replacement-concept-in-frankfurt/

Past history would suggest the latter.

Autocar seems to be claiming manual in the Gallardo replacement and R8 - 2nd Gen too...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

If you want to make your wheels temporarily matt black why not buy a few cans of Plastidip and do it yourself. This is a rubberised matt paint you can apply yourself and it comes off like a skin not damaging the paint underneath. Alot of guys are starting to use it to change the look of their wheels on a non permanent basis. Apparently it works very well, is easy to apply and very easy to remove and you needednt remove the tyres to give it a go. Might be best to order the standard wheels and give it a go yourself for a few months and if you really like the look you can peel it all back in 30 mins and have the wheels painted matt black when you have finished your first set of tyres (which shouldnt take long with the GT3!)....just an idea...

The most wonderful thing about PCCB is that you can precisely dispense braking power in the last moment, something you cannot do with the standard brake. Some of my friends cannot believe how late I brake (this is why I always win... Smiley) because of the very precise brake feel. If I can afford it, I always go for PCCB. Not recommended for hard track use though (replacement cost).

Plastidip? Well...leave it on the rims for more than a couple of months, drive your car hard (heat) in a warm environment and then...try to remove it. It will be a pain in the ass...if you can actually remove it without scratching the rims. Smiley I just asked a guy who is specialized in stuff like that, he does foil coverage of cars and used Plastidip for a while but stopped using it after he had difficulties to remove it from rims and metal (hoods, doors). Not recommended, unless you drive a cheap ass car you don't care about. Smiley

Good question. However, many buyers who are number one (I am not) on their dealers list still haven't heard from their dealer. So I assume dealers have not been told.

    Adam2S:

So if you permanetly disconnect the vacuum hose / connector on the exhaust I guess you always benefit from the 35Nm torque, as well as the increase in noise levels?   If so that sounds like a win-win to me!

    Quote from http://stuttcars.com/porsche-models/911/991/gt3/

The exhaust flaps can be adjusted by pressing the button. When the engine is started, the exhaust is in the "going to theatre"-mode, but after the press on the button, the obstacles are removed, the engine makes the noise the GT3 has to make and the torque is increased up to 35 Nm / 26 lb-ft in the 3000-4000 rpm range.

I am trying to get info from my dealership to see if this is true...

does anybody have any info on this?

This is from Rennlist a brief summary.

frayed: if you need any other translation of some sentences here I can help here quickly too...but otherwise the article doesnt give much more info. They drove the car only shortly before being stopped by the police. The engine revs quicker than the old one (listen to this, Im a big fan of the old one..but it really only started to pull above 5000, the new one seems more linear; this would have been also on my list) + the car - despite being longer, feels more agile compared to the old one, but in an "honest way"..this is how they describe it. Steering feel is "equal" to 997 GT3 but certainly better then 991S. Not so much (new) about PdK itself....
    all the best,

Also, SportAuto believes a MT is a must option.
