Perfect Le Mans weekend, unfortunately marred by the death of Allan Simonsen.
Audi wins
A Porsche double and a Manthey 1-2 in Pro Both wins were against the pre-race predictions BTW. Aston was the Pro favourite and Ferrari for the GTE Am.
Rennteam member, driver and car collector par excellence, aka Futch finishes

Well done Futch! We were cheering you on from Oregon! Can't wait to hear what it was like to drive that last hour. Crazy, emotion, tragic, exciting race. Minus the terrible loss of Simonsen, that's what I love about this race - it's a great human drama. Can't wait for next year!
Thanks everyone!
What a race, it was so intense. I've done Dubai and Spa, but this is honestly on another level. The LMP cars, the crap conditions, the speeds you reach, Le Mans just wears you out like no other race.
Our goal was modest, first time to discover and finish, which we did, I passed the checkered flag in a mix of pouring rain and dry track, my first stint was the same, but on slicks, extremely uncool!
Simonsen's death sent a shockwave in the paddock, this is really terrible and there will be consequences, there are some very deep grooves after the curbs which were filled with water and there was a tree behind the guard rail, I don't know what happened exactly but it is tragic combination of details. I couldn't help looking at the rail every time I passed the Tertre rouge and felt uneasy.
On a positive note, I understand now why pilots say Le Mans is the holy Grail of endurance, what a race, the people, the atmosphere, the mix of pro and am drivers, of GT and LMP, and the sheer speeds, it's really crazy, you're probably full throttle on 3/4 of the circuit, and public roads, insane.
Lap times were ok, I managed a few 4'08 which is ok for an AM. Can't wait for next year now. I'll be better prepared.
I've got some really cool pictures I'll post later.
Porsche was amazing, we had two factory engineers decicated to our teams, they were proud and happy for us. It's a knock out for the all the cars, all 911 finished and victory in Pro and AM, perfect. I spent the whole week with Manu and Romain, top guys, really top guys.

Félicitations Futch! What an experience that must have been, conditions couldn't have been more difficult I think, although Spa 24h last year didn't look any easier, and I suspect the 911 isn't the easiest car to master in these conditions?
Btw, since you've now experience both, how does the RSR compare to your GT3 R, big difference in performance/cornering?
I had a wonderful time at LM, the atmosphere there is second to none, can't wait for the next one.
Here's Futch after crossing the line.
That wonderful Le Mans camping atmosphere, a campsite packed with gorgeous machinery, bbq and Radio Le Mans on the background.

Futch, how, to your opinion, Le Mans can be compared to f1 and indycar? There are a lot of discussions about which race is the most prestigious in the world. So, mostly, autosport fans argue between Le Mans, Monaco and indy 500. Which of these, to your opinion is the most prestigious, dramatical, difficult and etc... Thanks!

Me think Le Mans wins hands down. 24hrs race, day time and night time, it's a endurance race of the car and drivers. The night time is especially tricky, we have no idea how difficult it is when they race at night, when they see glaring headlights in their mirror, they have maybe half a second to decide if those are from the same class or the much faster LMP cars, which they will need to move over.
Indy 500, it's just a race doing 800 left turns.
Monaco is very technical, but still it's only a 2hr and change race, the cars only needs to last that long. Futch spent more time than that in the race car each session.
