    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

It suspect  that the VW Group find difficulty in positioning our imaginary M-E Porsche, relative to the new R8 ( at some stage it was rumoured that it would not be replaced, but this is not true) and the Gallardo replacement,  in terms of price and performance.

That is a problem in many dealerships. Fortunately, I don't anticipate many 918 owners buying the GT3. Going from a 918 to a GT3 would be like going from a 911 to a Prius.Smiley

Oh come on, I regularly goes from the MP4-12C to a Honda Odyssey, I drive the fastest in the minivan, no one even expect or noticed I am speeding in the soccer mom special!!

Two different vehicles for different purposes. The 918 is a performance vehicle as is the GT3. If your mood is a performance run why on earth would you chose the GT3 over the 918?

    Hi,

I´m seriously considering to order a new 991 GT 3.

Here is my configuration, what do you think about:

red or white?? - my last 6 cars where white.

standard seats or full electrical?? or even sports seats??

    leather or not??

    LED?? do I need this?

Lifting system? is it enough lifting??

I will use it as a weekend car - sometimes track more road.

Definately get leather! not doing so would downgrade a car like the GT3 IMO

also lifting system is a must IMO.

LED? I suspect most poeple will get them for cosmetic reasons more trhan anything else... so personally I would pass...

Seats, personally never found much use for the heavy full electric seats, especially on a GT3, and IMO a sport seats fit the GT3 like a glove.

As to the color, my preference is white with black wheels, only if it has black wheels though, otherwise white doesn't work as well IMO. But since your last 6 cars were white you need to change... have you though of black with black wheels? this photo bellow just blew me away rock.gif

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Having been through the configurator more times than I can remember, I agree that white is the best color.

Black wheels would give it more of an aggressive look but not sure  would want that. Also, with brake dust they tend to look dull and very dirty.

The lifter depends on you're driving situation. Do you have a steep driveway or go to places like a gas station with a bad driveways? If so the lifter makes sense. On the other hand, lifter or no lifter the front rubber piece will scrap and you will be replacing it. For now I am opting not to get the lifter.

Sport bucket seats are a must. I wish I could order it in the US but for now they are not approved.

LED's I am still debating. I don't believe their light output is any different from the Bi-Zenon. Yet they do enhance and modernize the look of the car. Future cars will be equipped with LED's and those without will look dated.

You might want to consider the smoking package and cargo net. They both are fee options. The smoking package provides a lid over the change hole and another outlet. The net gives you extra storage since you do not have back seats.

I suppose that in a GT3 (frequent track use and 2 seater) a roll cage is a must. Why there none in the options list?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I have a 991 GT3 coming as well.  I am spec’ing mine very similarly.  I WISH I could get the Sport Buckets but am in Canada so getting screwed on that (for now).  I might run the base sport seats in the winter months and Recaro buckets during track months (but they aren’t great for daily use).  Colour-wise, I agree white is the best colour for this car, but it will be my DD and white really stands out so I’m down to 2 options: White with black wheels or black with black wheels (as pictured above).  I will put in a half/rear cage (aftermarket) as soon as I get the car.  I have a (very) low 997 Turbo right now and although I’m constantly scraping the plastic front lip on driveways, as long as you go very slowly and on a sharp angle, it doesn’t do any noticeable damage.   Those are cheap to replace and I am counting on the same being true for the GT3 so I think I will skip the lift system and just count on replacing the lip every year or so.  I’m also torn on which headlights to get.  I think the black ones might look good if I go with white paint.  Here is a pic from the brochure of white with black wheels….black wheels.JPG

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

White looks great in photos.but every single new car is white...sound plus is overkill, they dont even offer Burrmmester because difference cant be heard in a gt3...on track buckets are way better than standard seats...standard brakes are prefered on track...rollcage is free if buckets are ordered but i never heard iit actually saved someone on an amateur trackday

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

A small comment, is to avoid the white rear lights. They look, how shall I say it, watered down and lifeless. The original red ones give more life and emotion to the car.

Also, I would avoid black and if white is deemed too common, I would get the GT Silver. A classic Porsche colour, very appropriate for a Porsche track thoroughbred that still highlights the distinctive design cues of the GT3 even better than white.

By the same token don't you find with normal sliver finish wheels the brake dust is even MORE noticeable? The front will be a different shade of grey than the rears? In black at least the contrast is not that noticeable.

No doubt the brake dust would show as well. The difference is the silver will continue to give off a shine. The standard titanium wheels on the GT3 will have the worst impact because of the brake dust. Nevertheless, I am still undecided which wheels to order.Smiley

The darker and more mate the wheels the less noticeable the black brake dust will be due to contrast effect.  Black wheels will be less affected by the brake dust than silver wheels which will get darker and darker and less shinny as the brake dust accumulates.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I don't find the sarcasm of Preuninger regarding the criticism centerlock wheels failures amusing at all... even just one person loosing a wheel while driving is one too many, something like that can be potentially fatal to the unsuspecting driver of the car... and the fact it that they redisigned the centerlock wheels, if there was nothing wrong why redisign and beef them up? As usual with Porsche they never man up to their mistakes, but using sarcasm in treating such a serious subject is very low...

Also using centrelock wheels on a private owned streetcar has no advantages, on the contrary, they requiere more maintenance, specialised tools for changing the tires, etc, only advantage is looks and how did the Porsche slogan go? "form follows function"?

Go Big or Go Home.  Red.  White is great for commercial vehicles, like delivery vans carrying brezels.  Smiley

Sport seats if reasonable track use; standard if mostly street.  I have no use for the heavy, expensive Adaptives  (Electrical).

Leather: I think it's worth the money actually.  I don't think you'll regret the extra cash outlay to get that dash in leather and seeing the stitching every time you get behind the wheel.

Lift: having had both the 997 and 996 GT3 this is a must for me.  Only adds 6 or 7 kilos but removes a lot of stress from day to day driving.  If you search on rennlist 997 GT3 section you'll find those who find the lift a must outnumber those who say it's unneeded 10:1.  Even if you don't live in a hilly area, sometimes you encounter a fuel station with a steep enough transition, or a speedbump on a residential road that the GT3 will not want to traverse unless you take it super slow at a 45 degree angle.  You can do this, but it's actually a pain in the butt and detracts quite a bit from it's usability.  The scraping of the front lift constantly is like nails on a chalkboard.

Never mind the mentality "Ill just replace the splitter every year it's cheap".  There's more to it than that.  It's about stress free driving. . . you'll have plenty of other things to worry about in a RED GT3.  ;)

LEDs: I think they are not well executed (appearance wise) and the halo around the dual lights is not sharp and kind of aftermarket looking.  I'm sticking with the basic lights, which are fabulous, and using the money to get something you actually appreciate every time you get behind the wheel: full leather

Consider the no cost option leather steering wheel b/c the Alcantara tends to get get a bit worn out after a few years, along with the cargo net and smoking package noted above by nberry.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Porsche has the best exterior white in the industry and it looks particularly good on the GT3. That is why Porsche shows the car in white. However, I imagine the majority of GT3's will be white and that would detract from the uniques of the car. IMO, red is not a good color for Porsche. That is a Ferrari color and best to stay away from it.

I agree about the standard seats unless sport buckets are available. Also, agree with leather. Not sure about leather for steering wheel. I don't plan to keep the car long enough for the alcantara to show signs of wear.

What is the difference in height of the front lip once raised by the lifter compared to the height without a lifter?Smiley

Still debating the LED's. I think the car looks better with them but for an additional $3300?Smiley

Oh Pls niggah.  Fiat doesn't own red.  While I haven't owned a red car in 20 years, the 997 GT3 in Guards is awesome.  The new metal will look even hotter in red.

But to each his own.  Not a fan of any 911 in white.  I understand its appeal for a track car, but not a fan for street cars.

    LED cost is silly.

Lift = 30mm.  But don't get it if you are not convinced.  I can only speak from my personal experience driving around Austin.

If you aren't going to keep the car long, then skip the LEDs.  On resale it won't bring you anything so you'll be flushing 3k down the toilet.  I'd rather spend that on a vacation.
