    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Sport Bucket Seats are not available in the US do not meet applicable homologation regulations and thus cannot be offered for sale at this tine..   They were OK in the US for 2010 & 2011.

    Oh darn!!!!!

From those I've talked to it's an airbag issue.....Guess EU and US regulations differ.

Also I heard that the same homologation issue with the seats also extends to the 918 for the US also?

Can an one from Germany shed any light on this subject? (RC?)

Correct, I saw somewhere though that they are reworking the seats and they will be available in the U.S again soon.

Are you certain it's GT silver and not Rhodium Silver? It just might change my color choice if it's Rhodium. Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I hope they have an option for the Porsche color crest as the center cap (like the 918) instead of the GT3 logo. GT3 on all four wheels is bit too much.

Th optional silver painted wheels come with the colored crests, so even if one gets the standard platinum wheel it might be possible to get them after the fact, for a price!

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

    Hi Mike,

I am not sure. I used the configurator for both colors and to my eye the GT silver was closes to the car shown in Shanghai. Maybe Porsche Customer Service can tell us the color of the car shown in Shanghai.

Thanks for the information on the center cap. It makes sense that they can be switched out.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

There seems to be a different roll-bar setup for each car. I wonder if the LB - UV308 is not a RS mule. I can’t make it out clearly, but it seems that the roll-bar for the LB - EM9114 is not a permanent fixture. It does not go all the way up to the roof, whilst the roll-bar for LV UV308 does seem to go all the way.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

They are test mules by the looks of it. The door mirrors are the old type. The bucket seats too...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

The hood crest is missing. These are mules for sure...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Porsche would sell a 25% ratio GT3 out of the 911 model line, if they would offer optional back seats and up to 40% with an optional wing delete option (instead, the car would get active aerodynamics from the Turbo).

FWIW, Weissach should strictly speaking come under Böblingen and have "BB" number plates, but since Porsche also has the factory in Stuttgart and the sales, marketing and service division in Ludwigsburg, you'll also see the company's own cars with "S" and "LB" plates.
To further confuse the issue, Bosch also has a major facility near Ludwigsburg which has various car manufacturers prototypes on loan to it for development of engine and chassis control systems, so you'll also see many mules of various brands including Porsche, Ferrari, Rolls Royce, etc., with "LB" number plates running around that area, the Nürburgring or above the polar circle, which are in fact assigned to Bosch for its contributions to the development work.

By the time the US dealers get their allocations, these suggested options may be available. Smiley

BTW, there was an interesting article in the WSJ today regarding Porsche as to whether it is still a sport car company because of the number sedans and SUV's it is building. Unfortunately, I was unable to link the article. Basically it stated that many are concerned that if Porsche loses it sport car roots the company will lose the prestige it once had. Soccer moms driving Macun's or Cayenne's to soccer matches will ultimately hurt the image of the company thus losing business.

Of course, Porsche's rebuttal is the growing business in SUV's and sedan enables it to produce better and more technically advanced sport cars.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Better to accompany the 911 (and the other sports models) with SUVs and make money, than go out of business altogether.

Look at how sports car companies have been struggling for ages from Lotus to Aston Martin and many others. Maserati are trying to expand to small sedans now and Lamborghini will produce a SUV soon. Perhaps, only Ferrari have managed to survive, but I don't know how FIAT are doing their accounting within the Group.

To me the production of non-sports cars by PAG doesn't mean anything. I enjoy Porsche ownership regardless because I put substance over snob value. The image is only hurt if the product is rubbish. Similarly, I don't think that a Mercedes SLS AMG (another top car)  driver cares that the Stern is also to be found on taxis, buses and trucks.

Very well said. As long as the products are special I believe it does not detract to the image. What detracts to the image is the lack of passion and competence that you find sometimes in the dealers representing  the Brand.

True but at what cost?   How long before the badge is diluted by the myriad of older, ratty Cayennes I see on the road?
