Heist:
Don't the Italian police have a few Lamborghini's in their fleet of Highway Patrol vehicles?
I'm not so sure anymore. They had two Gallardo, one crashed and the other one was used mainly for representation/PR purposes only, for example as part of a presidential convoi, etc..
Early this year, I think I read somewhere that the second Gallardo has been decomissioned because it was too expensive to maintain but I'm not sure if this is true.
Maybe some of our italian friends can shed some light into it.
Interesting: I have always wondered why German police doesn't use Porsche anymore (Autobahn Polizei) but apparently it is cheaper (and much more stealth) to use powerful BMW 5, Audi A6 and Mercedes E-class. Don't even think about M GmbH, RS or AMG models...usually some powerful Diesel models, nothing really fancy. These cars are usually stealth (no markings) and have video recording devices onboard, so they can nail you on the spot. If you get away...well...they have you on video. So they don't care. It just gets more difficult to convict since German law allows punishing the driver only, even if the car owner can be punished too (but in a different way, they cannot take his driver license or give him points on the license). So if the driver cannot be identified, things get complicated.
