Never? I suppose this was some sort of preview with design elements of the next generation Panamera?
Btw: Some car magazines already testdrove the new Panamera 4S (with the bi-turbo charged V6 downsized engine instead of the former V8 N/A engine) and all seem to agree that the exhaust sound is less nice (vs. the V8). It was to be expected... Thanks god Porsche kept the V8 for the GTS version (which now sounds as an even better offer than before).

The new V6 turbo, RWD seems to be the sweet spot of the Panamera range, in terms of cost to benefit. It is good that it is an authentic Porsche engine.
Moreover, in markets with high car taxation, the 2997cc engine capacity saves a looooot of money.
"Form follows function"
Downsizing...we are going to see that more often I'm afraid. This also kind of answers the question of a 8-cyl. engine in the 911: Never.

This deserves a separate thread but I am unable to start a new thread. Be that as it may, guess who is outselling Porsche in California?

Well, Californians were always kind of...different.
It never rains in California? Well...I encountered a couple of days of rain there.
It is always warm in California? When we returned from LV last Saturday, we had 98°F in LV and only 67°F at LA international airport.
I saw at least three Tesla on the highway on my way to the airport, also saw two Fisker Karma, so Californians really seem to love electric cars.
Worst (and most aggressive) drivers in LV and California? Toyota Prius drivers.
Now I shut up before the Californian wrath hits me.

Christian, Southern California has had weird weather this year. Our weather men have been using the term weird in their broadcast. I can only attribute it to a Germany family vacationing nearby.
Seriously do not underestimate the Tesla. it is well financed and their product is top notch. They received the highest safety rating by any car. It's styling is modernistic and classy. The only unknown is reliability since it is a relatively new car and is battery operated.

Two years ago, we had the same "weird" weather. What about "it never rains in California"?
I do not underestimate the Tesla but I also think that this is a high priced high tech product, not really something for the mass market. Also don't forget that the electricity is not coming out of thin air, especially owners of electric cars tend to forget that easily.

Wonderbar:
Tesla is a good product, but neither a sports car nor a Porsche competitor.
Exactly. On the track, they suck (compared to the current Panamera generation) and while the 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) acceleration performance is spectacular, the 0-200 kph (125 mph) isn't that spectacular anymore at all. For speed limited countries, the Tesla models could be an interesting alternative but let's be honest, they are too expensive.
In Germany, you can get powerful Diesel monsters with a fuel consumption of 9-10 l / 100 km and the same performance, making electric powered cars quite senseless. We could argue about the environmental benefits but an electric car would only be really "better" in this regard if the energy produced to run it would be from wind or solar cells. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter that the electric car has zero emissions.
I kind of get the feeling that a Tesla has become some sort of a lifestyle thing in California, it is "chique" to drive one, same as having a Hermes handbag or a gay friend. Please don't misunderstand me but right now, I cannot see the value of a full electric car for a car nut like me. Hybrids? Maybe. Fully electric? We're not there yet.

I like my wife's Tesla Model S 4-door a little better than my Panamera for its general demeanor while driving in and around our city. It won't push GT3s around a race track like the Panny Turbo, but its driving manners and sense of control in traffic are peerless.
In another thread, I mentioned that I would be sorely tempted to add a second Tesla Model S to the garage, instead of the Panamera, if not for the cruising range limitations for inter-city trips.
I suggest a test drive

I drove a Tesla Roadster almost two years ago and wasn't impressed at all. Actually liked the Fisker Karma more (it felt more refined, despite the less agile/nimble feel vs. the Tesla) but while I was impressed with the technology per se, I don't think I would like driving one on a daily basis. I love gadgets but it seems I don't like electric cars...yet.
Btw: My 9-year old son has an electric ATV for our garden, it is actually quite fast (over 60 kph, it is the real deal, just with an electric motor instead of a fuel engine) and fun to ride (even more me) but we had an engine operated ATV in Vegas last week and it felt and sounded so much better, even if it wasn't much faster. Maybe I'm too old school regarding engines but I really don't like electric ones. Yet.

I agree that the Tesla Roadster is not my favorite every-day car. Yes, it's a bit unrefined.
My statement was about the Tesla Model S sedan. Apples to oranges.
