The GT3 is becoming the ' sports road ' car now  and still a killer on the track. But it is more and more adapted to every day usage .

This is precisely what attracted me to this car. In addition to its unique styling setting it apart from other Porsche's, it provides a modicum of daily comfort with the rawness to generate exciting driving. Great combination!

There is no evidence so far that proves the new GT3 is a killer on track. Nobody outside of Porsche has driven it, and if they have they have not done so over extended periods, and so have no idea how the engine or other new technologies will perform or endure over extended periods.

As others have pointed out the new GT3 is a road car with no Motorsport link and therefore it may not even be suitable to take this car on track.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

If as Porsche claims it does in the Ring in less than 7.30 min, it is a pretty good track car. indecision

As for track reliability, it will not be a problem for me. I doubt it will see a track and if it does it will not be for very long.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Consider this. Maybe the new GT3 .....should actually be the real Carrera S.

There is just not enough S in the 991 S to really make it a S. Its too close to a std Carrera in driving dynamics to be worthy of the S designation.

Jim, I always liked the GT3 for reasons I stated earlier. My problem with the car was the harsh ride necessitated by the track set up. Also the lack of PDK. Now that Porsche has resolved those issues,

Why should the ride of the 991GT3 be more comfortable than that of the 997GT3? I would not expect this to happen.

In the lengthy interview with Evo, Porsche spokesman claim the 991GT3 is more comfortable for daily use. From that I extrapolated that changes had been made from previous models. Am I wrong?

If I had to guess they probably felt it was more comfortable for daily use given the PDK gearbox and maybe also the more cosy looking interior. In fact, the 997GT3 does not have an unreasonably harsh ride. In normal mode the car rides quite nicely - no need to worry. Even if the 991GT3 would be very similar in this category, the new GT3 would be very acceptable as a daily driver Smiley

Also based on what people say about the sports suspension in the 991 Carrera indicates that the ride, even if as firm as before, is more ' confortable' as it seems the PASM workes better on absorbing the uneven surfaces.  So, probably the suspension of the GR3 991 in normal mode does also ' feel more confortable' then before

The 911 has a new chassis which is completely different to the 997 / 996. This combined with the other features make it ride much better than the 997.

The 991 does not ride very differently than the PASM 997 Smiley Of course you can feel a difference in comfort - however, the differences are not substantial. In case of the GT3 it won't be any different.

I also feel it is a bit weird to discuss (and buy) a GT3 based on its level of "ride comfort". These cars were not unreasonably uncomfortable in the past. I.e. even in 997 times it was not quite understandably for me if someone did not get a GT3 or GT2 because of its ride qualities... I know some people who never considered a 997GT3 or GT2 as it was only available with a manual gear box, though. The new gear box might make a major difference for many and might also enlarge the target group of the GT models, even if some more traditional buyers would still love a manual gear box. Net effect should be positive, if I had to guess.

You are so wrong and you apparently did not drove 997.2 Carrera and Carrera S. With same options(SPASM etc) for example both versions of 997.2 drive the same in overall drive dynamics. Difference is only in power and torque feel/delivey.

Same story about 991, only with 991 you can not choose PDCC/SPASM option for base model. So, there is a big difference actually between 991 Carrera and 991 Carrera S. Do not trust UK based car magazines...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Kreso, you may have missed my point., which is that the S models should be more "Special" and have a bigger power difference between them and the base model Carrera.  Is there something "wrong" with that? I think not.

As for PASM, that is available on the base 991.2 Carrera for the US market.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I attending a Porsche function over a year ago and t/w a 997GT3 owner and his wife. They were discussing a trip they took from San Diego to LA and back. The wife was complaining about the harshness of the ride and said both of them had a headache ride that far in the car.

I understand that it is a performance car but if it cannot be used comfortably for daily use I may be making a mistake. I know with the 997.2TT it was fine to drive but once it went into sport mode the car became much stiffer and had a harsher ride. That is fine for short duration but to use it regularly would not be a fun car to drive on streets. I assume that the GT3 with the sport button does the same though maybe not as comfortable which I can live with. I just don't want a bouncy ride feeling every imperfection on the road.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Nick, it may not deliver what you want in ride quality. It may not even be the car you would be satisfied driving on a daily basis on the roads in your area. The handling and steering read to be more crisp than on a  Carrera, but the tire specs that partly influence that are probably way low on the comfort scale.   Apparently only McLaren has the magic formula for both handling and ride quality.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

My Ferrari's provided a descent comfort level as did the TT. Hopefully the 991 GT3 will provide a modicum of daily driving comfort.

In the end it is all subjective. The best would be to do a quick test drive (in the old GT3). As you know the F430 from own experience I would be surprised if you found the GT3 to stiff. I don't think you should worry too much - just give it a try Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I am pretty much committed to the car. If I don't like it I will get rid of it. I only planned to keep it a year or so and buy another Porsche. The only thing that will stop me from buying the car is delay in order it. Then I will consider the used 458.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Boytronic. With due respect the new GT3 will be killer on track. I have some intel which suggests they were posting consistent 7.26/7.27 at the Ring on development settings before they had the RWS set up correctly. I think Porsche will play down the Ring time as they know it will cause a bit of a ruckas and they need to leave something in the pot for the GT3RS. Already Porsche have "officially" stated the engine makes close to GT34.0 power and from the comments passed down from the test driver team I have been privy too the Ring time may well fall into the mid 7.20s with the the final tyre combo and RWS set up correctly when independant magazines get an experienced driver on the Ring with a production car in the future. In terms of "is it a good track car", well we only have comments of Porsche and their employees to go by at this time so that remains to be seen, however I think the new GT3 took many of the test team by surprise..

Times are changing so fast these days - after just a couple of months absence from RT I am checking in again and Nick is buying a GT3 Smiley I am sure you do the right thing, Nick- every sportscar afficionado has to enjoy one of these beasts at least once in a lifetime. I am sure you will love the experience and I wish you best of luck with the ordering process Smiley

Since this weekend I am spending too much time with the Porsche configurator again SmileySmiley Though I am not sure whether it would make more sense to wait for the RS as the GT3 would not  be available for this year's track season anyway - this is not relevant for Californian owners of course Smiley

Guys, with all my respect..but now I think youre starting to dream..it clearly says "prognostidziert"..the other times you quote are verified by independent tests..the one from Porsche is a factory claim..needs to be verifed first.

How can a "little 991 GT3"..beat the big and mighty 4-12, aventador?..even if it has at hockenheim the same time as these..on the ring,.,these two will be gone after 400m straight line..

If the Sport Auto test reveals a 1:08.--Macca will get a beer for free..if he looses the bet - I expect 1 Million Dollar in cash payed to my bank account in NigeriaSmiley
