    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

So if you permanetly disconnect the vacuum hose / connector on the exhaust I guess you always benefit from the 35Nm torque, as well as the increase in noise levels?   If so that sounds like a win-win to me!

    Quote from http://stuttcars.com/porsche-models/911/991/gt3/

The exhaust flaps can be adjusted by pressing the button. When the engine is started, the exhaust is in the "going to theatre"-mode, but after the press on the button, the obstacles are removed, the engine makes the noise the GT3 has to make and the torque is increased up to 35 Nm / 26 lb-ft in the 3000-4000 rpm range.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

    boytronic:

According to the 997.2 GT3 / RS brochure the Sport button gives 35nm of extra torque.

OT: 911Rox please checkout the class action lawsuit against Porsche on Pistonheads which has been settled. There should be one for CL too. But as RC said lets stick to the new GT3 here :)

    Noted...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Exhaust flaps are likely as per two previous models... There to keep the car legal for noise regulations under 4000 rpms and maximise noise and power when in sport mode by maximising torque... i doubt there is anything new about the system beyond placement of the valves.

    Agree. Loose the reflectors.

I see reflectors on practically any new car over here in Germany, so this may be mandatory in certain regions.

Confirmed: It is mandatory in Germany (and very likely other regions too).

US only, IMS only (yet) but if you find a good lawyer... I'm not sure however both issues can be compared.

Interesting though that other Porsche models such as the 981 do not have them?

Regardless P could have been more subtle with their integration such as those on the 458 bumper.

Just keep in mind that Black wheels can not be ordered(and AFAIK wont be). So, choice is Platinum wheels or optional Silver wheels.

Since Silver wheels are not option for me I would probably go for Rhodiumsilver Met. with standard Platinum wheels.

BTW, Platinum wheels are only thing that I do not like too much. Wheel design is nice, but Platinum is not sporty color, at least for me. Why not Titanium matte like Audi is offering for R8? Titanium looks more sporty then Platinum.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

    Gnil:

Like the previous model, the front mufflers can be acti- vated and deactivated via two map-con- trolled exhaust flaps for high engine performance. The front mufflers are activated and deactivated via vacuum- controlled exhaust flaps. When these flaps are closed, the exhaust gas is directed exclusively via the front muf- flers to the main silencer. When the exhaust flaps open, this provides a direct passage to the main silencer, resulting in a reduction in exhaust back- pressure and a further increase in engine power.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Porsche wrote the following in its full release:

As was the case with the predecessor, the new 911 GT3 also offers the driver the possibility of increasing the pull of the engine in the mid rev-range at the press of a button. When activated, the back-pressure in the sports exhaust system is further reduced, improving gas exchange and thus increasing the torque between 3,000 rpm to 4,000 rpm by up to 35 Nm.

It was stated just before the paragraph captioned “Switchable sports exhaust system with special exhaust manifolds”.

However, it does not identify where to perform “the press of a button”.  Which button?  It is the sport exhaust button (on the right of the console) or the race/PDK sport button (on the left of the console)?

Regarding the latter button (race/PDK sport) did you notice that the labeling of the button is inconsistent between the Preuninger/Evo video and the car on the stand in Geneva?  What is going on?  Is Porsche getting sloppy or does it evidence some last-minute political decisions?

In any case, the performance impact of the adjustable exhaust system seems a non-issue as this it is fitted on the car as standard equipment, so we need not worry.  Just find out where to press “the button”.

    Cheers.  Smiley

The rear light reflectors are there on the 991 Carreras as well.

They are new because on the 997 models the rear lights were bigger and the reflector was included within the red surface the rear light.

Shrink the rear lights, move the reflector.

Regarding the weight of the car, was the unladen weight (DIN) of 1,430 kg measured with the standard seats or the optional bucket seats?

Can we know the weight of the main options which may be selected for the car:

    • Bucket seats & full leather (net weight saving?)
    • PCM
    • Audio plus
    • Front lift
    • PLDS
    • Tempostat
    • Sport Chrono Plus
    • Telephone module

The true reason is related to side impact air bag positioning.  Audi has the same issue with their sport buckets.

In the Evo video, I heard that the bucket seats with homologation problems Mr. Preuninger referred to as those carried over from the Carrera GT (which do not have a side airbag included).  The optional bucket seats proposed with the 991 GT3 (code P03), pseudo carbon fiber, do have a side airbag incorporated.  Can it still be the problem?

The sport buckets are not LATCH compatible and, as a result, the airbag cannot be disabled for children.

    1. Differences for USA

      • Passenger seat occupancy detection (advanced airbag: USA, Canada and Mexico)

They are mandatory on essentially all markets, including the US. They are regulated in terms of size and position. Naturally, they have to reflect light but only in red. On the US market, for example, they are supposed to be at the most outer position possible. They are placed further outward on the Carrera's US-spec bumper in comparison to the European one.

997 as well as 981 have them incorporated inside the taillights. the ones on the 991 were presumably too small to embed the reflectors as well. Most probably that's the reason for their location in the bumper.

It would most likely affect the legal state of the vehicle if they would be removed or painted over...

sure - if I recall, my GT2 has the disconnectionfeature for children. This is required by EU and US law already since a few years..otherwise the bucket seats would have never made it..

ARMD009. Its called Platinum silver and this is a new silver for the GT3. This is the first shot weve seen of it and its not a very good one at that. It looks like a very pure silver (with a grey tint rather than brownish or blusish). MB offered a similar silver years ago. We need more pictures form this shoot. Not sure why all the secrecy now as the car has been announced....anoying this is almost evryone standing around in that car park by those cars knows far more about how that thing goes than we do LOL!
