    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

How were they able to do that, N/A 991 GT3 475bhp 0-62mph 3.5secs and 997 turbo 483bhp 0-62 3.7secs. This is a bit strange, could it be down to the aerodynamics in a straight line acc. ?

they sure did a good job to make a N/A with lower power output to go faster than a turbo charged engine variant Smiley

Part of it is the lower weight and better gearing of the GT3 (and the sticky tires with launch control).

frown  Indeed the UK configurator is up - Rhodium Silver looks very nice on the 3D version, but Im not struck on Sapphire Blue.

Looks like you can only have red stitching on the seats if you go with full leather. heart

Some odd internal options too, like you can have the garage opener, cruise control and a light design package but there is no BOSE or Burmister options, just the crappy Sound Package Plus... surprise

Interior noise levels are probably too high to appreciate Burmester (which sounds fantastic in Carrera)

True but still...a lot of money. The new Turbo is rumored to have a base price close to 160k EUR (incl. BOSE and the LED lights).

If they continue with their philosophy, that the Turbo models are relatively well equipped cars, 160k base price seems okay.

    Re: GT3 leaked!!

Base price for the new GT3 on the US Porsche site is almost exactly 100K Euro (99977.03).  $130,400 US.

Very good for used MANUAL 997.2 GT3 prices!

Well equipped vs. the Carrera? Yes. However, there will be a couple of new options which are extra. You can easily spec the new 991 Turbo to 200k EUR. Smiley

Aside from PCCB and gaudy interior upgrades, how could any (sane) person add 40k Euros to the price?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Impressive specs. Considering, that the engine shares some parts with the common Carrera engine, Porsche must feel confident about their current engine lineup. I have said it before, the M96/97 engine had to suffer from limited engineering funds and the refusal of certain relevant figures to turn it into a promising engine. As impressive as the Mezger engine is, it is time to move forward and I hope that Porsche can substantiate their engineering prowess in this new engine. The specs sure sound promising.

Stylingwise the car is what almost every trackaddict will appreciate, just like the 997.2 GT3 there are a few slats and creases too much for my liking so I would prefer mine in black... devil

Why is the engine still a sticking point for some? Yes it's relatively new and not yet race proved, but same can be said of the Metzger engine when it first came out, look where THAT engine has taken Porsche.

Even when Porsche/VW has the resources, I do not think the current DFI engines are a stop gap one. They must have planned many things for the basic block on capacity and output and has the head room built in.

Yes it is possible to pass from D to N while moving, I think its not possible the other way around, anyway if possible, it can damage the gearbox! He mention they put this feature on purpose on new PDK, so I believe some changes in software had to be made in order to make it possible desengage the clutch without hurting the gearbox. Would love to know if it can be retrofited Smiley

Ah, but the Metzger motor was descended from above, fully perfected (am Anfang), indestructible, everlasting.

And lo and behold, all engineering know-how to that point was lost and forgotten. And all technical progress after that point stopped. For there was nothing new to be learned in Motordom, nothing more to discover, nothing to improve.

Hmmm... It is a religious thing...

Oh, sorry.  I haven't owned an automatic in decades, but my old American V8 cars would let you shift back to drive while moving - in fact you could even select reverse when moving forward (don't ask how I know :) )

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

DFI engines have been plagued with leaking problems since the introduction.

Hence, the worries on such a high strung engine constantly in high stress situation in the GT models.

Until Porsche race prove the DFI engine, the suspicion will never go away.

To make the matters worse, 991 Cup cars unfortunately do not come with DFIs.
