    Go for blue.
In blue, it's sex on wheels. But again, you won't go wrong with either. If you don't like to attract much attention or not used to flashy colours, agate grey is not a bad option kiss

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Looking at the pics above,i prefer the bue one, seems more "exclusive" and shining, but sure with the black rims.

i would go with a white one,but i think 90 on 100 will be white,so i like open minds to "new" colours...

If you get blue then don't get theb black wheels, they do not match at all IMHO, but then again I agree with RC that the blue is not a "GT3" color, its more fro a turbo or a cab and makes it less GT3-ish IMO.

Grant. I dont disagree but the stock 3.8 991S puts out exactly the same torque on paper to the 991 GT3 (324lbft). My thoughts are there must be something they left on the table for the 991 GT3RS.

My biggest "wish" for the RS is that they offer a motor with 6 individual throttles, like they have on the 997 RSR racecar (used with a plenum to keep the low-end torque).  Porsche last had that for the road cars in 1973 (and also again briefly on the SCRS which I'm not sure qualifies as a roadcar).  Individual throttles may not make a huge difference to the power/torque, but it gives much sharper throttle response and a fantastic sound from the intake (the additional character would be welcome in the RS for the extra cost).

BMW has been using individual throttle on its M cars for decades (even had 10 of them in the previous M5 and M6) and may stop now that all of their motors are going turbocharged.  Good time for Porsche to pick up the mantle.

Cosworth is using them in the motors they provide for Singer:

The grey is one ugly car. It dresses the car down to it being almost invisible. If you don't want to be noticed and like military colors, then Grey is for you.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

The grey is actually great with the black rims.

The met. blue color is way too elegant but a matte blue could look nice...

Nick, GT3 drivers don't buy the car to get noticed, on the contrary, you don't want to get noticed...when you are too fast.  Smiley Flashy colors always attract too much attention, including traffic police.

Have to agree. Don´t like neither of these two colors as Atlas Grey is far too elegant and that Blue a little too inappropriate on the GT3. Maybe the latter would work well with some lighter accents as on the 997.2 GT3 RS but definitely not with black wheels.

I personally am still a huge fan of flat or Basalt Black on the GT3.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Christian, knowing you ordered Agate Grey which cannot be changed, I assumed you would have a rebuttal. In your defense, AG would be better suited on a Turbo than a GT3 unless the GT3 has contrasting wheels and painted contrasting markings.

But I do need to remind you that police monitoring device are color blind.indecision

Do you mean Agate grey rather than Atlas grey?!

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Agate grey doesn't look too elegant, it is much less elegant than any silver, metallic blue or metallic brown color. Of course agate grey isn't speed yellow or guards red  but I think it is the best choice for any Porsche 911, unless you want something more flashy. Very neutral color is white btw., neither elegant nor sporty.

If you are talking GT3 RS, I don't get the "alternative" MP4-12C. Two completely different cars for completely different folks.

I am talking GT3 RS and to me I put them in the same car option for my needs .

Price :  A slightly used MP4  will be the same price, if not cheaper then a new RS

Track : Both car will be joys on the track and more or less as fast .  The RS being a bit more hard core  .

Daily use :  Both cars will not be a DD , the MP4 being a bit more comfortable , but for the driving I will do it does not make much difference .

Engine : Turbo with 625 HP is lots of fun,  a raging NA 500 HP revving to 9'000 is also lots of fun

Perceptions :  again, more or less the same . The RS is in your face with the big spoiler, but Porsche are regarded less flashy. The MP4 has the flash doors, but when driving it is quite discrete with it's non agressive look that reminds more of a lotus.

Both are two seaters, so I can not take more then one member of the family with me in both of them.

So...... both cars can give me similar driving joy , that's why they are too options for me !

I must admit that I do not "get" your objective about both cars. I also drove MP4-12C and IMHO it is a very good sportcar. Not a excellent sportrcar, at least IMHO.

Just... Forthcoming 991 GT3 RS and MP4-12C as narrow potential choice? Hmm... I still do not get it...

Maybe something like forthcoming 458 Stradale will be potentionally a good option for you?

I can perfectly understand Gnil´s considerations. Both cars are different enough from the "common" sportscar such as the Carrera. Yet they both have a very technical, performance-oriented character. I also believe that they are both a rather logical step from the car Gnil is driving right now, even if the one (GT3) is the more obvious step than the other (MP4).

I actually don´t understand why many people here think so much in categories. Even if some parameters are vastly different, they might meet the relevant criteria for the individual.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

From my experience people who are serious about trackdays prefer GT3s,and those who only occasionally vist the track tend to prefer more expensive and flashier sportscars (Ferraris,Gallardos,Astons,Porsche Turbos,R8s...)

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I don't know, if I am a SERIOUS track day junkie I would by a Ariel Atom instead of a GT3.  Or if maybe a Caparo T1.

GT3 ultimately is a street car with capable track potential, the Atom and the T1 is a track car with passable street potential.

And I would even pass those cars and get a Donkervoort D8 GTO.  (But I may be biased because it's a Dutch built car with a reliable Audi engine ;) )

Those are the '' official'' competitors to the GT3 .

What will the GT3 RS be ?

I see the MP4 fitting in there somehow , at least for me , as the bottom line is : How much excitement , pleasure, and track efficiency I will have with the car . MP4 is very capable in the hand of a non professional on the track ! I have tried it .

As to the 458 Scuderia, it will probably be a very good car, but I can not see myself driving a Ferrari. I don't know wha tit is, it just does not suit me. I can not identify with their main custumers .

The MP4-12C is a car with an excellent traction control/ESP system setup but the GT3 RS is going to be a beast, even with PSM. These two cars are for a completely different audience and while I agree that the MP4-12C has a very good performance, when you are talking driving fun, especially on the track, the GT3 RS will be the better choice.

Talking about feelings...(remember the manual vs. PDK discussion?)...

I am sorry but I cannot follow the logic of getting the MP4-12C or the GT3 RS. I may not have spent too much time in the McLaren but the drive feel and ESP setup is completely different than in a GT3 RS (997). I would still prefer the Mclaren because it is more fun to be fast on the track and on the Autobahn but for pure track driving fun, the GT3 RS is the better choice in my opinion.

Like I said in the 991 Turbo thread...I would love to own a 991 Turbo S AND a 991 GT3, they would really complete each other wonderfully. So if someone gets a MP4-12C, I would get a GT3 RS as my "other" car or at least a GT3. I cannot follow the MP4-12C or GT3 RS philosophy since both cars are completely different in my opinion.

I can not have two ' fun cars ' . So I have to choose the car that will give me a generally the best pleasure . I agree that the RS is the best track tool and the more hard core car. The MP4 is more ' comfortable' and probably less challenging but actually very fast .

When I am on the track I would like the best ' tool' I can have ..... but.... I am maybe  max 10 days a year on a track .

To drive on normal roads or highways, the MP4 is probably the best as less raw and more ' comfortable' to take my wife with me ( she gets sick wery quickly in a car with me Smiley )  It would also be more easy to drive into town then the RS  , as the RS looks much more out of place in a city due to the ' race  look'

Now I would have to know exactly how the 991 GT3 RS drives , but this I can not know for the moment....

Two slightly different cars, but both offer lots of pleasure and I must choose on what purpose I put emphasis and which one would globally give me the most satisfaction.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I would choose the more "analog" car - eventhough the new RS for sure will be a lot more digital than before....- taking the old RS by the horns is incredible rewarding vs having the "tech-gimmicks" sort you out... - but then the Mc for sure is a better daily driver.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

How could the 12C be a daily car? The drivetrain might be suitable but things like ground clearance, width and visibility are also very important. Daily car means it will be suitable for narrow spaces, sharp ramps, do your shopping etc. There is no better car for practicality than the 911, but what spoils the GT3 are the extreme aerodynamic addenda at the rear which look out of place everywhere except on a race track.

IMO, it is about time Porsche do a re-thinking of the aerodynamics of their cars so that the fixed wings are finally replaced by more presentable systems. Ferrari can do without wings on all of their cars, even on the LaFerrari model.

I cannot imagine using the 12C as a daily driver, unless I wouldn't work and I would drive in jeans and a t-shirt only.

Ask my wife how she entered the MP4-12C in her tight mini-skirt, she hated the McLaren. I cannot say I had serious issues to enter the car but it wasn't very comfortable. Maybe people get used to it but... Smiley
