    Re: My new old 993

Gauss, Blueflame and Joost: thank you very much !  The old lady (993), this year will be 18 years old,  still provides great driving pleasure.  Not as fast as a modern 911s but very involving. It has the classic feel with (almost)  modern usability. Here is another photo

You are not the only one inclined to succumb to the looks of the 993.  Smiley

It's cool, but not just because it's air cooled.  Smiley

    Re: My new old 993

m4ever, as others have pointed out, your Riviera Blue 993 really stands out!  In my opinion, paying extra for a PTS color is well worth it, and your car shows it so well. Enjoy every km in it. kiss

Gauss: thank you will do my best!

Joost: I have been longing for a 993 for years , I understand that feeling well

Fritz: I believe the 993 is very good looking but also amazing fun to drive, you have one too , don`t you?

Pilot: Thank you for the kind words. Yes PTS is great on the 993 (though I am not the first owner so the merits are not mine). Shame I do not have your photo skills (and scenery) . (Btw enjoy very much your thread)

If you get the notion to take more scenic pics, please continue to upload them here.  I will be happy to wear out the  "save image as" function on my PC!

Your car is truly a work of art!

Fantastic buy this Riviera Blue 4S. Very special the wide body and the colour kiss

Give us please, a comparison between the 993 and the Club Coupe to see how the 911 changed in 15 years.

    Re: My new old 993

Every vintage of the 911 has its own cool style, but for me the 993 is the best of the best of the best.

On top of that, you've got a great condition, wide body, coupe, in rivi blue!

That is a real keeper, man!

You have my sincere complements.  Hope you enjoy it well for a long, long time.

    Re: My new old 993

    Yup - lovely.

So tempted to seek out an unmolested Iris blue C2S in the UK. I did love the solidity of my old 993. Even if it was the most uncomfortable car I've ever owned.

Give us please, a comparison between the 993 and the Club Coupe to see how the 911 changed in 15 years.

Hi Reginos, I will give it a try :

If I have to compare the 993 and the 911 Club Coupe (which is a 997 with X51) my qualitative feedback would be this  one:

    • Overall: the 997 is objectively the better car no doubt about it. It is faster, safer , more confortable , more luggage space (I use my cars also for longer trips so this matters) . You can drive easily 1,000 km in one day and you won`t really feel tired after it. You can take it to the track enjoy it and still have a confortable drive home. In one word  a great all around 911 (and the 991 I guess repeats all this above at a further level)
    • Fun factor: This is where the 993 takes in my opinion the lead. It maintains the proper classic 911 feeling (I know that because I had a 73’ S ) with a dose of modernity that adds a lot to the usability , like very good brakes, good suspension setup that makes the car quite confortable, air conditioning, driver and passenger air bags , ABS  and extremely good build, finish and overall reliability.

With the 993 any winding road even at lower speeds is great fun . You feel every corner of the car and the steering tells you exactly what is going on , simply there is little filtering between you and the machine . Yes you need to have always both hands on the wheel so the drive is never really relaxing , you are in charge here (with the consequent fun but also with the risks involved) . The 993 is significantly more oversteer prone compared to the 997 , which is fun when intentionally provoked but on the other hand you have no PSM or electronic aids therefore you have to keep this on mind and you need to treat this 911 with proper respect (imho even with the rear multilink architecture the 993 has maintained some traits of the older 911s) .

The two are just different and they address different expectation and desires in the 911 ownership. I like them very much both but for different reasons. They are both great cars!Smiley

Davew & Bridggar : Thank you, much appreciated !

I have been looking for long time for a Riviera Blue 993 . My dream was a 993 RS in Riviera but they are rare and out of my budget. Recently one passed hands in Italy for more than 150 K  Eur. Though the 993 RS is an investment grade 911.

    Very good summary, thank you.

I was running a 3.0 SC, which I had fully restored, for a number of years. It was very demanding but rewarding to drive and fun.

What a nice 911 and what a color! The 993 S/4S are very very very sexy.

my choice would be 993S polar silver with red leather!

yes, yes I know not very subtile

Hi 911ster. Thank you for your kind words. Your color combination  would look great . The 993 was offered in 12 different leather colors and the standard customization possibilities at that time were higher than today on the 991 and this without even considering the Exclusive programme. I guess the red your refer is Flamenco red which you could match to a Flamenco red  or Black dashboard. Not easy to find a 993 2S/4S in this combination .  Besides consider that the 4S had standard full leather interior while on the 2S it was an option.

By the way why don`t you open a post and tell us more about your 964 (with photos!) ?

Another photo of my 993 took today while we were graced by few hours of sun (now raining again..)

I read all your thread. When in France, your 993 was at "La Villa Rose". It is a very well known Porsche dealer nearby Lyon. I have recognized the "cupper" plate on the dashboard. Mine had one too ;-)

HI 911ster , yes indeed my 993 was sold by "La Villa Rose" . I have all the service invoices of that time from "La Villa Rose" and I did not remove the copper plate , it belongs somehow to the car. My 993 was also featured in the april 2006 issue of the French" RS Magazine" together with other two nice 993s. Btw I saw many nice 993s in France .

Impressive, I would never expect a 993 4S to dance like that! Smiley

    Re: My new old 993

Thank you Porker. It does not oversteer unless heavily provoked (pendulum and clutch action) . On dry surfaces it is not too challenging to control it, on the contrary in wet conditions it is very very difficult to mantain the drift (what I don`t like on the 993 4S in wet conditions is the too sudden shift of traction from the front to the rear in the moment the front looses traction). Here is another photo (not a very good one though..) 1371059307450photo.JPG
