@m4ever: I've just noticed your thread .
Fantastic buy this Riviera Blue 4S. Very special the wide body and the colour
Give us please, a comparison between the 993 and the Club Coupe to see how the 911 changed in 15 years.
Hi Reginos, I will give it a try :
If I have to compare the 993 and the 911 Club Coupe (which is a 997 with X51) my qualitative feedback would be this one:
-
Overall: the 997 is objectively the better car no doubt about it. It is faster, safer , more confortable , more luggage space (I use my cars also for longer trips so this matters) . You can drive easily 1,000 km in one day and you won`t really feel tired after it. You can take it to the track enjoy it and still have a confortable drive home. In one word a great all around 911 (and the 991 I guess repeats all this above at a further level)
-
Fun factor: This is where the 993 takes in my opinion the lead. It maintains the proper classic 911 feeling (I know that because I had a 73’ S ) with a dose of modernity that adds a lot to the usability , like very good brakes, good suspension setup that makes the car quite confortable, air conditioning, driver and passenger air bags , ABS and extremely good build, finish and overall reliability.
With the 993 any winding road even at lower speeds is great fun . You feel every corner of the car and the steering tells you exactly what is going on , simply there is little filtering between you and the machine . Yes you need to have always both hands on the wheel so the drive is never really relaxing , you are in charge here (with the consequent fun but also with the risks involved) . The 993 is significantly more oversteer prone compared to the 997 , which is fun when intentionally provoked but on the other hand you have no PSM or electronic aids therefore you have to keep this on mind and you need to treat this 911 with proper respect (imho even with the rear multilink architecture the 993 has maintained some traits of the older 911s) .
The two are just different and they address different expectation and desires in the 911 ownership. I like them very much both but for different reasons. They are both great cars!
