    Geneva Auto Show

I will be attending press days (March 5, 6) at the Geneva Show, and will post pics from there.  I sometimes get a chance to talk to Porsche representatives--any particular questions from Rennteamers?  Post them here and I will do my best.

Also, I am staying a few nights in Lausanne.  Anyone recommend good restaurants?

I guess the questions I have won't be answered by anyone there. Smiley

    Have fun! Smiley

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

I am from Lausanne ( actually just next to it )

Here are a list of restaurants :

For the best gastronome restaurant :

    http://www.restaurantcrissier.com/fr/restaurant-hotel-ville-crissier-official-site.php

( 10 minutes drive from center Lausanne )This restaurant was Fredy Girardet' s who was named best chef in the world in 1986 . Then it was taken over by Philippe Rochat . In 2000 Gault&Milau says : this is still the best restaurant in the world. Last year it has just been taken over by a new chef . I have not been yet but rumours says it is fantastic as ever .

In the upper class you also have :

    Anne-Sophie Pic , at Hotel Beau-Rivage   http://www.pic-beaurivagepalace.ch/fr/index.php

Otherwise, slightly below but still very nice :  Table d' Edgar at the Lausanne Palace , or the Sushi restaurant at the Lausanne Palace   http://www.lausanne-palace.com/uk/

Then you can go the the Brasserie of the Palace for an easy meal , or the  O pure if you want to be around the night places ( Flon )  ( usually the food is nice, but last time I was disappointed  )

You can also go to La croix d' Ouchy for a very nice italien ( it is no Pizza Place, more  rizoto and meat or sea food. Just do not take the fish, it is less nice ) This place was a very good surprise 3 weeks ago, as I did not go there for many years.

If you want basic Brasserie in a beer athmospehre  go to : La Bavaria ( very close to the Lausanne Palace )

If you are looking for other's  ( pizza place, chinese , fondue etc.. ) please let me know . I'll answer with pleasure .

If you want to meet up for a drink , just PM me and we will see if it works out.

    Enjoy your stay

As far as I know, yes...it does...until Nissan comes up with another upgrade. Smiley

In real life the upgrades did not bring major improvements. Only on paper...

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

Thanks Gnil and others. What a great bunch of folks, offering advice and straight talk on cars and events of interest!

Watch for my pics and posts next week. Going with a pal who has a Berlinetta, 918 and the new McLaren on order. Geez.

What a thrill to be around these fabulous machines, and with such a fine friend..

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

Any recommendations in Geneva self? Spending an extra day there...

(@Wonderbar: hope you don't mind me asking in this thread)

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

For casual, good fondue, I like Auberge de Saviese.  For high style Thai, i like Patara.  For chic late night bar, try the Leopard Bar at Hotel d"Angleterre.  For admiring without desiring, go to Patek Philippe boutique/showroom.  For desiring and not admiring, there are always the ladies of the night  along the Rue de Paquis near the Auberge de Saviese...

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

Thanks / merci. I'll keep those things in mind.

An opinion on Café des Négociants in Carouge?

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

Totally random I know but I just got an email confirmation of my booking at the d;Angleterre (for the show) and it mentions breakfast available at 48 Euro each

I mean why can't they hide it in the already extortionate room rate - I  don't think I could ever justify this much for breakfast, its not like I'm particularly hungry in the morning

Too many people on other people's (company's) tickets

I'd be interested to know whether a Flat-8 motor is planned for the GT3 RS or any other 911.

    Thanks!

5 Euro for the food, 10 for the staff, the rest for the boss' s bonus Smiley

Yep, I could not justify it either Smiley

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

If you book with American Express, breakfast is free, and you get $100 credit for incidentals. Call AX travel service and they can often call the hotel and rebook for you and get the savings above.

In any event, think you can order a less expensive breakfast. The buffet price is 48 euro. But still, room price is really inflated during the Show. I am at the Angleterre on this Saturday night and the price is $200 euro cheaper than the same room starting Sunday. But overall, a fabulous hotel, and I have stayed there many times with family and friends over the years.

Are you there on press days (Tuesday and Wednesday)? Might be fun to meet.

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

We're staying the Sunday and Monday night, I think we actually got a pretty good room rate, 950CHF total, my point is I'd rather they just hid the breakfast in the room rate as seeing it bare like that just makes me a grumpy old skin flint who will just do without breakfast and have a nice brunch instead smiley

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

Have fun at the Show and at the hotel.  Geneva is my favorite show---small, very internationally focused.  Ferrari, Lambo, and (sometimes) Porsche really shine here.

Like other posters here, I am puzzled by the lack of Geneva debut news coming out of Porsche this year.  I would be really surprised if Porsche only showed current models.  Even smaller shows-like Los Angeles last fall and New York in 2012, had debuts.  We shall see...

could you ask about when to expect the targa and if it will look like an ugly picnic basket for retro matters

The Porsche reps there won't discuss future models, even if they may give a hint or two regarding the direction.

    Re: Geneva Auto Show

In Geneva, I recommend the East West, very very good food and "low" prices:  http://www.eastwesthotel.ch/en/restaurant-and-bar/

To my mind the best fondue is at Le Chateau d'If:  http://www.chateaudif.ch

A lot more expensive but great food in both their restaurants (Loti and Tse Fung), and you'll find a few Astons, Ferraris, Porsches, etc in the parking blushhttp://www.lareserve.ch/en/restaurants-and-bars/

    For a great pizza, the Fifty-fifty:  http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g188057-d2236907-Reviews-Fifty_Fifty-Geneva.html

For great sea food, La Brasserie Lipp:  http://www.brasserie-lipp.com

Enjoy your trip in Geneva, and don't forget to tell us where you had dinner !
