    What is your'e definitiion of a SPORTS CAR?..

    For me personally I would choose the same definition as found in a Websters dictionary:

    "An automobile equipped for racing, especially an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center of gravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control at high speeds." 2nd definition: "a small low car with a high-powered engine; usually seats two persons."

    Most cars that we consider sports cars don't quite match up to this definition mainly because the have more than two seats which for the most part are useless. So they might as well be "sports cars"?

    This may be stupid and a waste, I just thought it would make for an interesting discussion????

    yep, Porsche GT2/GT3 and thats about it.

    I think there should be a weight limit for sportscars, and the GT2/GT3 are dangerously close to being disqualified on that basis (but their otherwise sparkling performance keeps them in the club)

    I think I disagree with the small engine part. A Shelby Cobra is a sportscar in my book (lightweight Alu roadster) but has a 7.0L V8 (same with Ford GT40)

    Performance through lightweight.

    One or two seater with minimal creature comforts, where driver interaction is the main priority. The handling ability (something no two drivers will agree completely on) is at least as good as the engine. Rear-wheel drive preferred. The car could be converted for a hill-climb or track day with minimal effort.

    That means the ideal sportscar is a lego model with an AMG V12?

    Maybe, when AMG starts making a V12 weighing 2 lbs. But it would still be two seats short of being a sportscar.....

    Nobody mentioned the Lotus Elise yet?

    A Ferrari 575M Maranello is not a sports car. It is a GT...

    I thought about this and I belive the definition changes through times.
    I mostly agree with Webser's definitions, but to give it my 2004's interpretation:

    A car that can be enjoyed for driving pleasure with excellent handling characteristics to be regularly driven on challenging roads including racing circuits at high-speed.

    Agreed. 3000 pounds should be the limit with special exceptions made for cars with particularly lively handling.
